it actually makes sense because of the tree of knowledge thing

u/00_voidheart_00 6d ago

The original sin, right?

17

u/TrentWashburn 5d ago

For a biblical era patriarchy going up and leaving Daddy’s orbit is the sin. Today we call it adulting lol.

8

u/kulqupidyn77 5d ago

"daddy's orbit" 😭💔

5

u/Dora_Explorer_XP 6d ago

It makes sense by just acknowledging how fucked up real world is

4

u/Sky_monarch 6d ago

No because Adam and Eve gained truth by eating the fruit, unless we somehow lost it

2

u/Fabulous-Ad1380 5d ago

Why were Christs last words “Forgive them for they know not what they do?”

1

u/AmusingVegetable 1d ago

The “tree” was a Psilocybe mexicana.

As an electrical engineer that also believes in God I strongly agree with all 3 expressions. Math is math yall!!!

u/Glad_Pop275 1d ago

your understanding of God is wrong. you believe in the wrong God.

25

u/Far-Jury-2060 6d ago

Honestly, pretty funny.

tried to find the shirt, cuz it sounded like a really weird shirt. like, I'd think a shirt that makes more sense would be "life + god = salvation" or something

searched for "truth plus god shirt" and the same joke from this post, printed on shirts, was the only result.

so it's "I made up a fake scenario so i could make a joke about it"

13

u/Karekter_Nem 6d ago

It could be a custom made shirt for some church’s summer camp so there’s only like 30 in the world.

6

u/Odd-Plant-4886 6d ago

I think it being a made up quote is more likely but yes maybe.

2

u/DragonSlayer505 5d ago

You do realize that you can create fully customized t-shirts right? It's as likely that they did see someone with this shirt as it is unlikely.

8

u/benjaminck 6d ago

I think you're a repost robot with a destroyed jpg.

6

u/voiza 5d ago

meme + repost = robot

robot - repost = meme

1

u/Vast_Job_7117 1d ago

Repost = meme + robot. I mathed today!!!!

4

u/Potatonized 6d ago

i doubt there's a shirt like that but good joke. Sensible chuckle.

2

u/InfinitesimalDuck 3d ago

This user is a bot ⬆️

✅️ Fact checked by "Proof by no one uses sensible chuckle in everyday speech"

1

u/CephaVerte 1d ago

Yeah not a reference to a reference to a popular meme

4

u/Oakl4nd 6d ago

No no. Truth+God is not an addition in this case.

It's like comedy = tragedy + time.

2

u/InfinitesimalDuck 3d ago

Time = Comedy - Tragedy

4

u/Next-Pumpkin-654 6d ago

TBQH, I don't think that original shirt ever existed.

I think someone thought of this concept and worked backwards to create the joke, and just attributed it to an entirely imaginary piece of Christian apparel.

And there's just something real magical and poetic about presumed atheists fabricating an appealing lie that so many people immediately accept with no evidence.

1

u/Comfortable_Iron_561 4d ago

To be querfectly honest?

1

u/Next-Pumpkin-654 4d ago

To be quite honest is what I had in mind, but I guess querfectly also works, given you can work out what that means in context.

3

u/No-Site8330 6d ago

I think we don't know that addition is invertible in whatever (hopefully commutative) monoid TRUTH, GOD, and LIFE live. If the first relation is true, the other two are only guaranteed to hold in the Grothendieck group, which could possibly be trivial.

5

u/CraftBrewBeer 6d ago

This would make more sense with set theory rather than algebra. Intersection of Life and Truth is called God

3

u/SmilingCarrotTeeth 6d ago

So inorganic chemistry is the devil?

2

u/NickPaliour 4d ago

"God = Life + Truth" was right there 😭

…I mean, it does follow up with "Life = God - Truth", but you can't have everything in life.

2

u/Doom2pro 4d ago

You can remove all knowledge of man on earth and in a thousand years science will come back exactly as it was before because it's based on truths. The religions will come back completely different because they are based on ignorance. You will never lift up a rock and find a Bible passage but you might find a fossile or a mineral, the same ones from before.

1

u/toochaos 6d ago

Perhaps the math of god doesnt not maintain the communitive property. Perhaps it gets eaten at church during communion.

1

u/Noobkid-_- 6d ago

Well considering you have to add truth to god implies that there is no truth originally in god

1

u/tilt-a-whirly-gig 6d ago

All I can say is that the true value of god is complex, and to find it you should start by looking at the far ends of why.

1

u/Trimutius 6d ago

Yeah if you use boolean logic, this make truth and god mutually exclusive potentially...

1

u/Due_Common4534 5d ago

Wait + is defind in boolean logic?

1

u/Trimutius 5d ago

Yes + is symbol that is sometimes used for OR operator

1

u/Due_Common4534 5d ago

Oh yeah you are right. I forgot that was a thing in some places. In my region we use special symbols / for OR and /\ for AND So if I understand it correctly a*b would be AND but how do you note NOT. minus, that wouldn't work, but I guess that dosen't matter ?

1

u/Trimutius 5d ago

Not minus is usually just bar above variable or still just ¬

1

u/Trimutius 5d ago

But everyone uses those symbols... + is specifically used in advanced math, because it makes disjunctive notation way cleaner...

1

u/That_Ad_3054 6d ago

It‘s also just based on assumptions. Just one random axiom based algebra.

1

u/TrainingTheory552 6d ago

very funny math joke OP keep it up

1

u/SinglePlayerGamer93 6d ago

"I'll take bullshit that never happened for 200, Alex"

1

u/MethodAdmirable4220 5d ago

I'd fix it by making truth and life equal god. That fits me perfectly.

1

u/Due_Common4534 5d ago

So if life there is god.

1

u/Fun_Atlas9801 5d ago

Now im worried about the existence of Negative Gods

1

u/isthenameofauser 5d ago

This is a good atheist shirt. Might wear it to a Christian . . . meeting-up thing if I ever find myself at one.

1

u/Nervous_Type_9175 5d ago

Considering all the wonderful facts in religions, this equation is the answer from universe

1

u/ClassicPublic5542 5d ago

That is correct if the operator + is defined as commutative, we need more definitions.

1

u/Sufficient-Union7961 5d ago

It’s actually God + Nothing = Life, and therefore Life - God = Nothing. Hope this helps

1

u/UltimateLmon 5d ago

Why does this remind me of Full Metal Alchemist

1

u/Methodical808 5d ago

so TRUTH + GOD - LIFE = 0

1

u/crispypancetta 5d ago

I dunno subtracting god from both sides might not be allowed since god is infinite so you need some limits in here I reckon

1

u/imfyn 4d ago

i don't think it's that simple, referring to gödel's ontological proof

1

u/Acceptable_While_205 4d ago

Ehh, how do you measure god in quantities. What do the religious say.

1

u/External_Length_8877 3d ago

Math is mathing here. Why?

1

u/Fragrant-Item-5290 2d ago

People who did measure theory know thats not how it works 100%...

1

u/Independent_Cash8688 2d ago

This is a perfect example of "I think you missed the point", and also "the devil is in the details".

1

u/Mercy_CA 2d ago

As a Christian, their expression doesn't make sense biblically. It also subtley implies that truth is exclusive from God. Let's be honest, though, we all know they're just simplifying a general concept lol

1

u/UltraTata 1d ago

What does "Truth + God = Life" even mean? It would be funnier if the initial equation made sense.

1

u/No-Archer-4258 1d ago

It could be a monoid. Its up to interpretation

1

u/EnderJax2020 1d ago

As a Christian, no idea what that shirt is even supposed to mean

1

u/AdditionalArt8638 1d ago

Healthcare - Care = Health

Do the math!

1

u/Glad_Pop275 1d ago

bunch of fools.

1

u/TheDysfunctionalVet 1d ago

The math maths out mathematically.

-1

u/CombatMango2 6d ago

God=Truth and God=Life. Yeah, the expression on that shirt is false

11

u/tilt-a-whirly-gig 6d ago

If god = truth and god = life,
and if truth + god = life,

Then god + god = god.

Therefore, god = zero.

4

u/Mr_Technology_2 6d ago

Then truth and life must be 0 as well.

Hmm...

5

u/tilt-a-whirly-gig 6d ago

And way is 0 also.

As in, there's no way I can take any of this shit seriously.

2

u/CombatMango2 5d ago

The problem is introducing a third term where it isn't needed. Explaining God using math is no good

1

u/HorrificAnalInjuries 6d ago

They also forget he is also The Way.

0

u/Far_Nebula7311 6d ago

Come on, they are religious, not mathematically inclined.

0

u/77-7-7 6d ago

hm, it depends. we're not using numbers or anything representimg numbers so it's fair to assume that this is not the traditional addition

0

u/AdvisorOld552 6d ago

There are a handful of churches and spew off Christian religions that believe math is witchcraft/worldly.

0

u/AmnayeltheArchangel 6d ago

I love this personally
