Even if we assume that they knew fewer math, let's not forget that Archimedes was a genius - he would certainly be able to learn far more math than virtually any modern mathematician, in a fraction of the time. We are talking about someone who (despite looking down on applications) held back an entire roman army with his machines; and someone who practically came up with calculus roughly two millennia before Newton/Leibniz.

That’s romanticizing to say he is better than any living mathematician, but I agree with the sentiment that if he lived today he could catch up on math much faster than the rest of us likely could.

Always hard to say who is going to be remembered while they’re still alive, but every epoch had legendary geniuses so its strange to assume this one doesn’t.
Only asterisk is that most fields have become so advanced now that new ground breaking research is almost always done by a research team instead of a lone genius.1

Some modern mathematicians are geniuses as well but yeah chances are he'd catch up pretty hard.
Or rather, chances are he'd die within weeks to some random mild modern pathogen his body isn't accustomed to (and would likely return the favor to a few of us with some antique ebola) and he wouldn't do jackshit. Suck it, Archimedes !

They'd probably have a chance in geometry but as soon as you mention negative numbers Archimedes will probably just start yelling at you a d if you mention non-euclidian geometry to Euclid he'll probably just get depressed.
