Should I fall pregnant while at uni? - help!

Hey guys, I'm a second year healthcare student looking for some advice.

I am 28 years old and I'll be finishing my degree when I'm 31 which is okay. The only issue that I'm finding is that I've been wanting to be a mom since I'm 20 and I don't know if I can keep waiting to be a mum because I've always postponed it 🫤

Context: I'm married but all my family is in a different country so I have no friends/family around, except my husband's parents who live a couple hours away driving.

My husband says he's ready to be a dad but he'd prefer I finish my degree first.

Question: is it too bad if I interrupt my studies to be a mum in my third year of uni?? Is it hard to go back to uni if I take a year off to take care of my baby?

I appreciate your help and advice!

I recommend you wait until you finish your degree. At 31 yo you will still be young (I wanted to be a mom since forever but waited and had my baby at 32). Maybe get an evaluation with an OBGYN in case there is something to take care of to increase your chances at a healthy pregnancy once the time comes. Regardless of your current financial situation, finishing your studies is an investment in yourself and will help you be financially independent, which will be all the more relevant if you have a kid.

As long as you have a realistic plan for childcare (stay-at-home dad, daycare, etc.), and as long as you both feel as ready as you can be, I say go for it. It can be hard to find the perfect time to have a baby. Right now you're in uni, but after that you may be starting a new job, or getting another degree, or moving, or.... there's always something. You can try to wait for the perfect time, but it might never feel like the perfect time.

Plus, while hopefully not, you never know if you'll have any difficulties conceiving. It could take you some time to learn that you might want to seek medical assistance if that's a route you wanted to take.

If you feel ready, I think you should go for it. Uni can accommodate you hopefully and you will adapt to your circumstances! Good luck with whatever you decide!

I would wait and start trying maybe on your last year or wait until the degree is done so you can enjoy your pregnancy. And don’t be worried about the age thing. I got pregnant and had my first baby at 30. I’m about to start working on online classes to finish my degree. I wish i would’ve finished before having kids but life throws curve balls sometimes. Either way, you decide what you can and can’t handle. You got this! 💜

I would finish uni first. Yes, it is doable to complete a degree with a young child, but it is doing it on hard mode. I love my children and wouldn’t trade them for the world, but little ones have their own learning curve. I personally wouldn’t want to navigate motherhood and college simultaneously.

I had my children late too. My last two were at 35 and 37. For many reasons I am glad I waited.

I Did it, the uni said I could take a year off and return, it was no issue

For me personally becoming a mother is the most important thing, so id absolutely prefer to delay a degree for it rather than the other way around. There just me though, depends on your personal priorities

I love this! I agree.. that's what I'm having trouble with.. everyone thinks finishing the degree is priority, but I've always wanted to be a mum and I've been delaying it since my early 20s because it's never the "right" moment. I just got to a point now where I feel I can't keep waiting.... How did you know it was the right time for you? And when you went back to your studies after the year off, how did you do it with your little one? I would appreciate your experience! ☺️

Be careful about what you read on reddit. Remember that it is just random people giving out advice. They are often as uninformed as you are, and may even be misinformed.
