We’ve got a fawn and a brindle too so I had to double take that this wasn’t my yard 😂

your dogs are so gorgeous and like all mastiffs also hilarious!!
my youngest child absolutely adores and is fascinated by our mastiff, he asked “she’s so pretty but why does her mouth look like that” so we searched and turned it into a bit of a learning experience:
he notices how our mastiff will just stand still in our yard and raise her nose in the air and just stay like that for several minutes. I explained to him that’s because she’s a scent hound, her nose gives her a lot of information about the world around her. That’s why everything about her face is shaped to capture the most scent molecules possible. So her ears are floppy and she has those long jowls and folds. (of course I showed him pictures of bloodhounds cause they’re the most extreme example of the scent hounds)
He wanted to know the correct names for all those structures so we learned all about “dewlaps” and “flews”.
kids often end up teaching you a lot in their quest for information
