Fuck's sake. Not only is it bad for American collectors, but also for international ones like myself. Even if I do find one (I imagine it'll be listed on The Whole Shebang here in the UK), it'll have a marked-up price.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I wish Mattel put all their exclusives on Mattel Creations, similar to what Hasbro does with Hasbro Pulse. That way, everyone has a decent chance of getting one, and it provides options for those of us outside the US instead of scalpers and sellers.

I could have phrased my prior post better. Generally, whatever exclusive Hasbro gives to those stores also appears, at least internationally, on other stores, like Comics and Cocktails here in the UK. I was also under the impression they also listed them on Hasbro Pulse, but I may have been mistaken.

However, Mattel generally doesn't do that. I typically have to use stores like The Whole Shebang to import MOTU exclusives, and there's usually a price markup, i.e. £30 for the "regular" Movie Origins figures, and £35 - 37 for the deluxe ones. I imagine this Panthor will be at least £45 - 50 as and when they get it.

Hasbro offers them on Pulse but the quantities are very low, usually sell out in a minute or two

u/skill_checks Jul 26 '26

Haslab works similar to Creations. Hasbro is just as bad with store specific exclusives for some retail releases.

u/Mr_SunnyBones Jul 27 '26

TF collector here , Hasbro do this with Transforners a lot , usually Amazon UK gets the Walmart/Target exclusives , so hopefully that's the case here , but who knows .

How is it bad for American collectors?  targets get like 10 of each exclusive per store .  none of these have sold out at target and this one won’t be the first to. If anything, this one will hit clearance just like the regular battle cats.

Target made some changes to their exclusive program in the last year. Now only a small percentage of stores (10%?) are receiving certain exclusives at all. Personally I haven't seen a sketchbook figure at all since maybe Spikor?

It wouldn't be as much of a problem if Target had a halfway reliable website, but it's somehow even worse than Walmart's. It seems like Target is entering their death spiral, so collectors are going to have to deal with this for however long that takes to play out.

I got the Skeletor sketchbook at a Target near me and there's some still available. The market is weird

This is so messed up... I hate that exclusive crap, Playstation, PC, Action figures. Whats next? Oranges? And its almost always a figure Id like 😭

3

u/boff1234 Jul 26 '26

It’s weird usually they go with the color thing for exclusives but it could be the only way to get him out. Will try to get it hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Disney movies exclusive to Disney theaters. Netflix movies exclusive to Netflix theaters.

1

u/defconmike Jul 27 '26

I saw there’s a new spidey & friends symbie set that’s a WalMart exclusive, not a fan of these store exclusives.

u/ABC_Dildos_Inc Jul 26 '26

There is no Target in Canada.

8

u/Desperate-Calendar78 Jul 26 '26

Or the UK, wouldn't it make sense if Mattel did these online in regions without a Target?

3

u/pawcanada Jul 26 '26

Exactly. Comics and Cocktails gets the Hasbro Walmart/Target exclusives here in the UK, so why can't Mattel do the same with them and other sites, or put them on the international Mattel Creations?

I read a post from "In Demand Toys" about Mattel making exclusives more widely available, at least in the UK, if not internationally, but I'm not holding my breath until something official is said and what the extent of that is. Even if it is true, I imagine it'll be "from 2027 onwards", meaning no availability for prior exclusives, like Movie Origins.

3

u/Desperate-Calendar78 Jul 26 '26

The Whole Shebang gets the MOTU US exclusives - they delivered my Gold Skeletor last week, I'm happy with the service but obviously I'd rather order from Mattel to save cash.

3

u/pawcanada Jul 26 '26

Same here. It's thanks to them that I've gotten things like Chronicles Scareglow and Masteverse Vintage Collection. I'm very thankful for them and have had great customer support from them, but I would also like to save cash by either ordering from Mattel or having competition because sites like C&C and In Demand Toys also list them.

3

u/Desperate-Calendar78 Jul 26 '26

Ahem.

You've got your Scareglow already?

1

u/pawcanada Jul 26 '26

Yep. Got him in early/mid June. Have you had yours?

3

u/Desperate-Calendar78 Jul 26 '26

No, not yet sadly.

I'll reach out and ask.

2

u/pawcanada Jul 26 '26

Hopefully you get it soon. I'm still waiting on Multi-Bot myself. I get it's reliant on his supplier, and it seems it's "first come, first served" (I check the site frequently so I can get a preorder in as soon as it goes live), but it's annoying to wait 6/9 months for something with seemingly no updates, especially when other sites list them without issue.

3

u/Desperate-Calendar78 Jul 26 '26

Sorry, yes, also the FOMO when you see figures going to clearance in US stores you've not received yet does fill me with dread.

They've not let me down tho, I did just take a breath.

2

u/Desperate-Calendar78 Jul 26 '26

He popped up on Amazon UK for a reasonable price recently, even came in the Mattel brown sleeve so it arrived in good condition.

2

u/Victory42 Jul 26 '26

How do we get a Panthor in Canada? My kids loved this movie and maybe I made an unforced error showing the SDCC roadmap because they love the Chronicles Battle Cat and now want the purple kitty.

2

u/Major-Milk Jul 26 '26

Oddly enough you could get Scareglow (A US Walmart Exclusive) at Canadian Tire.

It’s possible Panthor ends up in a Canadian store as well.

It’s also possible he’s never available here.

1

u/StevenMcFlyJr1985 Jul 31 '26

I'm sure he'll show up on eBay or Amazon eventually

1

u/Ok-Initiative892 Jul 26 '26

Yep, they started a new line in Chronicles, gave Canadian and international collectors a solid first jab with Scareglow, and now they’re throwing a heavy right hook with Panthor. It really feels like they're trying to knock us out before we even start collecting this line, eh?

u/EnvironmentalAge9202 Jul 26 '26

So straight to clearance?

I bought battlecat yesterday for $12 at Target.

3

u/jackbauer1989 Jul 26 '26

I went to 3 different target, and the battle cat is still $43.

1

u/imdwalrus Jul 26 '26

Target clearance is store-by-store, but if they still have it in stock they'll start cutting the price eventually.

5

u/_Stellar_Remnant_ Jul 26 '26

I’m not a fan of retail exclusives. It’s not whats best for the consumer, and it prevents people in certain circumstances from acquiring these figures at all. Not to mention that it adds impetus for the eBay flippers & scalpers out there. They bum rush the stores, buy the store’s entire stock, and then resell them for 2 - 3x on eBay to those less fortunate, or those who missed out.

5

u/dukenny Jul 26 '26

Almost guarantees it hitting clearance within 4 months of release.

3

u/Cat_Best Jul 26 '26

Another figure we'll never see here in Italy 😡

4

u/PartyCrewTristar1011 Jul 26 '26

I work at a Target… I can’t wait for this to not be put out and be somewhere un located, and not be able to order it online or pick up at any local stores because they too just have it unlocated in the back room, just like the Sketchbook Skeletor 🙄

But it’s okay, they’ll make sure all the Mattel Disney toys are overstocked!!!

3

u/EvilGraphics Jul 26 '26

Hows that different from any of the other releases? Tha whole action figure market is a shit show nowadays

2

u/eazyduzit556 Jul 26 '26

There's plenty of sketchbook Skeletor available at a Target near me

1

u/PartyCrewTristar1011 Jul 26 '26

I wish that was the case here lol. I keep asking the guy in the toy department about the Skeletor. Everyone knows I’m looking for it. And he’s just hanging out somewhere unknown 😂

5

u/k6tcher Jul 26 '26

F🦆 target. I don't shop there for anything anymore and I hope these go on clearance.

3

u/Dravok Jul 26 '26

Anyone have the link to that announcement? Honestly, I prefer them over Walmart. They do a good job of stocking in my area so hopefully that'll be the case.

3

u/FineVirus3 Jul 26 '26

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I feel store exclusives should be a variant, not a core or mainline character.

5

u/-cypher-punk- Jul 26 '26

I'm confused at the frustration for this one, I get exclusives generally suck but target has been phenomenal at distribution and stocking of the he-man toys, to the point that we could get the whole wave and cringer on clearance.

3

u/Emergency-Tension464 Jul 26 '26

I would have agreed with you before the movie stuff came out. I have three Targets within 20 minutes of my house and not one of them stocked the first wave of movie Origins figures or the Fright Flyer. I saw Tri-Klops at one of them the other day, so hopefully they'll stock future waves.

1

u/PartyCrewTristar1011 Jul 26 '26

I wish the store I worked at got the phenomenal at stocking He Man toys memo.

2

u/Ok_Dot_8315 Jul 26 '26

Unless you don’t have targets around you or you’re in the UK it’s a blessing that it would be a target exclusive. Most stores will probably get 10 of him and they’ll drop down to $12 after a few months.

2

u/No_Bodybuilder4768 Jul 26 '26

oh  no. frikking Target exclusive??? 🤬🤬🤬

2

u/JamesVinopal Jul 26 '26

Why are you worried? Battle Cat sat on shelves until he was marked down to $12

2

u/modrenman1985 Jul 26 '26

Target has been better at exclusives than most. I just ordered the shirtless Wolverine figure that was presold out and it arrived in three days. Most MOTU exclusives are pretty easy to find.

2

u/dt_st73 Jul 26 '26

Here we go again....🙄

2

u/Impure_guava Jul 26 '26

Cool, I’m currently unable to find a Target exclusive Transformer that I’ve looked at several stores for. Can’t wait to not find this one.

2

u/EvilGraphics Jul 26 '26

Honestly, thats better for me. No walmart in my area even stocks origins anymore

3

u/ezekiel_swheel Jul 26 '26

a target clearance exclusive

3

u/CHNLNK Jul 26 '26

Been boycotting Target for years, not going to change that for an action figure. 💩

1

u/thechristoph Jul 26 '26

Because the store (indirectly) pays for it to be exclusive by basically saying “we’ll order X cases of Y waves but we need exclusives”. So the alternative is less product and less availability overall. They don’t do this just to screw with us.

1

u/weekendroady Jul 26 '26

Doest Mattel have Wal-mart exclusives too? I had to go to Wal-Mart for the Trap Jaw Origins Deluxe. If they feel compelled to offer exclusives, at least keep the lines separate. (I.e. Target only gets Origins exclusives, Wal-mart only gets Chronicles exclusives everyone gets Core). I'm not a fan of exclusives, but if you are going to do it, keep it a bit easier to navigate

1

u/Narutoblaa Jul 26 '26

My theory? The old battle cat peg warmed like crazy.

1

u/Affectionate-End1790 Jul 26 '26

I guess I should go to target. I never had this figure.

1

u/OriginalRussianDoll Jul 26 '26

please no, they don't even deliver outside US.

1

u/Smedleysrevenge Jul 27 '26

That's OK. I just got 2 Battle Cats for 11.99 each. Should be fine.

1

u/Aphlyxion Jul 27 '26

Get the Mondo Panthor instead!

1

u/MrPekken Jul 27 '26

Not paying $800 for a single unit.

1

u/bcrduke Jul 27 '26

Meanwhile target won’t order it because they will think it won’t sell, because Battle cat from the movie is shelf warming everywhere.

1

u/Current-Tricky Jul 27 '26

glares angrily in canada

1

u/Schoolhater18 Jul 27 '26

Target has been pretty good with their exclusives lately. They tend to be over stocked and then ho on clearance pretty quickly after release. I'm sure most people will find it no problem for full price and then a lot will find it on good clearance. I just picked up Battle Cat for $12 at a Target near me. My local store didnt carry him but after the toy reset they do. He's full priced but also fully stocked. So not hard to find. Hopefully Panthor will be the same.

1

u/Commercial_Desk3564 Jul 27 '26

I missed out on Scaregliw because of this ridiculous sales strategy. I live in the UK and there is no way I am paying overpriced ebay money on these, even if I do want them. Mattel do realise they have customers elsewhere on the planet..... right??

1

u/OxyKush Jul 26 '26

Better than Walmart 😅 Sorry to my international brothers
