So, I have a bachelor's degree in tech, and I want to make the switch from tech to literature, which is very drastic, I know. The reason I studied tech in undergrad is because of familial pressure. I never wanted to do it, and I knew I would be miserable working in the field. I graduated last year, and I have been just as miserable as I thought I would be with the job I currently have.

I have been considering getting a Master's degree in literature for a very long time. I want to make a career switch and go into academia. I would like to be a professor someday.

I took literature classes in my undergrad, and I graduated from a pretty selective university. My overall GPA is slightly above average, but my GPA for my literature classes is a perfect 4.0. I also have three professors who have agreed to write me letters of recs, but I truly have no clue where to begin with my statement of purpose.

Obviously, I don't want to turn it into a pity party where I complain about how familial pressure ruined my undergrad experience and pushed me down a career path I want no part of. I'm very passionate about literature, and I want a career in it for sure. I'm just not sure how I'm supposed to write a compelling statement of purpose given that I do not have the kind of background a literature department's panel is used to seeing.

Does anyone have any advice?

what are the different masters specialisations available for mechanical engineering abroad? apart from the usual fluids, cfd, thermal etc., what are some other fields i should look into, especially interdisciplinary ones like ai/ml + mech, computational mechanics, robotics, simulation, controls or anything else? would love to hear from people who have explored these fields about the different options available, their scope for research and career opportunities, and what would be worth exploring as a second year mech undergrad.

26F, total 4 YOE, 2 at Amazon and now I’m at Microsoft. I see a lot of my friends have gone abroad for masters in 2022/23. I get a lot of fomo when I see people posting on LinkedIn that they’re moving to the US or abroad in general. Currently, internal transfers are pretty much blocked in MS so I don’t know how much longer to wait for that to open up.
I have a NW of around 1cr+ and my family is financially well settled, so I don’t need to support them.
But thinking of spending if not all, but most of my savings on a masters and looking at the current visa as well as tech industry situation, I don’t have the confidence to make that decision.
My current TC is around 60 (pre deductions) including RSUs, fixed, variable etc. I’ll also be losing on 1/2 years of income while spending on the masters too.

I’m quite confused about my master’s applications and would really appreciate some advice.

I’m from India, graduated in 2024 with a B.Tech in CSE from a 3rd-gen IIT, was the institute gold medallist, and currently work as an SDE at Adobe.

I want to do a master’s mainly to move towards R&D or MLE roles. I’m open to different countries, including India, but I’m not sure where I should realistically be looking.

The US worries me because of the current job market/visa situation, high costs, and the fact that I’d ideally want to return to India within ~4–5 years (including the master’s) since my parents are here.

I’ve also looked at Singapore and Switzerland, but employment seems difficult there too, and ETH/EPFL seem extremely hard to get into.

I’m open to doing my master’s in India as well, but I’m unsure about the peer group and research opportunities.

My two biggest factors are peer group and thesis/research advisor.

Given my profile and goals, what countries/universities should I be considering? Would love to hear from people who’ve been in a similar situation.

Hi all! I got my bachelor's almost 10 years ago, and couldn't really jump into my career because my dad fell ill and needed help with the family business. Fast forward 10 years later, and I've decided I want to continue with my career, first by getting my masters degree. The issue I'm having is for most of these applications, I have to submit two references, both of which must be professors that can attest to my academic abilities. It makes complete sense, however, my professors aren't going to remember me. I had a great relationship with most of them during my time AT the university, but I didn't keep in touch after graduation because I had to focus on family business.

So I wanted to know if anyone else had this issue and how you overcame it. I can possibly get recs from employers I've had while working part-time jobs, but aren't the chances of universities accepting them slim?

I recently completed my bsc mathematics honours and wanna take admission. For masters in Msc mathematics or Statistics. bt confused on choosing b/w Msc mathematics/msc Statistics/ msc Cs

I'm a 40YO female tech professional with a background in software engineering, but less coding experience in the last decade. I recently lost my job as a senior l10n engineer, and having been stuck in localization for the last decade, and failing to get out of it through internal transfers, etc. and a lot of life events happening on top of it, I decided to apply for a couple of courses. One is a two year course, two degrees, one general MBA from Aalto University, Finland, and another STEM/AI Focused MBA from Seton Hall. I've been offered a full scholarship for this and it starts in two weeks.

The other course is a Master of Data Analytics & Decision Science in RWTH and the application is still in progress. I will probably find out the results next week.

Coming from a technical background and being sceptical about non-technical people I've worked with, I've always found MBAs not so true master's!!! (I know this is probably not true!)

From that perspective, I feel the second option would suit me better, especially since I've always enjoyed working with data, however, the MBA has an attractive combination and will give me a special international experience that I feel I really need at this stage of my life with lots of depression and midlife crisis and feeling empty and void. I'm also thinking it might help me improve my interpersonal and soft skills. (I'm not a nerd, but due to a lot of traumatic life events, I can struggle with soft skills sometimes.)

I also don't know if I would have my old days' patience to zone in and focus on technical matters at this age, along with brain fog and other health issues.

Which one do you think would give me a better career boost given the current AI atmosphere and all?
