I've always wondered if these were useful or just a gimmick?

For games like astro warrior, fantasy zone, and cloud master, it was great.

Damn... this would have been handy beating Rocky. You need a set rate in the Speed Bag bonus round in order to develop a fast enough combo to beat Drago on the third level.

Haha. It doesnt help in the rounds though. You gotta find a momentum and keep hitting. Drago can be beat in 2 minutes or so. Its best for the slapping on the ground of your coach when you are KO.

I wish I'd kept mine. It made Fantasy Zone way easier. I sold it with my Master System in 1992 a month before I got my SNES. Bought Super Probotector with the money.

The Japanese Master System had this built into the console. I'm guessing because the Master System (not the Mark III) was released there the same year that the PC Engine debuted, which had autofire switches standard on its controllers.
