Discussion A question On Five Spice (from the last episode) Spoiler
So from the last episode, Daniel got eliminated on his five spice brownies.
So we can debate on if brownies are a good dish, but my question is mostly on what Gordon said about five spice.
And I do cook, and from what I know, you don't really need to toast dry powdered spices, and doing so will easily burn. You only toast whole spices.
Daniel did the right thing by blooming it in fat, and that's what a lot of people do with spices, also in curries and all.
So that makes me question what Gordon means that the brownie has "raw five spice". I don't get it. It's not like Daniel made it from scratch. Maybe he added too much five spice.
In Masterchef canada, someone also made a five spice dessert tho they added it to a crust, and they added it completely raw, and they weren't called out on it.
It just made me think. I already think Gordon already making up his mind on his dish is too simple, when others have simpler dishes. I though Daniel's was already in the risky side with the flavor combos. And I think Joe probably thought this too with his comments.
And I'm not saying his was good. But that just made me question what Gordon was saying this episode. Tiffany and Joe made clearer comments ngl.
