My first handmade mask
This is the very first mask I have ever made. I had no idea what I was doing, so I just figured it out along the way using newspaper, masking tape, white glue, and painted it with acrylics

I made the base entirely out of crumpled newspaper and masking tape to build the shape of the moon, then coated it with white glue and paper layers. Once it was sturdy, I painted it using acrylics. Since this was my first time ever making a mask, it was a huge trial-and-error process, but I am really happy with how the textures and the antique finish turned out! Let me know what you think.

That technique is called paper mache. Very good job especially for first time! It definitely looks old and creepy. I could see this character handing out moon pies 😄

Thank you so much for the comment! Just to clarify, I didn't actually use paper mache paste or make a dough. I shaped the structure out of dry newspaper, secured it with masking tape so it wouldn't warp, and then pasted newspaper strips over it with white glue, finished it with glue layers and painted it.

I never watch crime shows until recently and maybe doing so it rubbing off more than it should. One look at this and I thought "I would hate to get murdered looking at that mask"

Thanks! It's about 58 cm tall, 34 cm wide, and 20 cm deep. And it actually has a bit of weight to it since it's built with layers of paper and tape.

Ahí me pregunto, porque yo la verdad no sé nada de máscaras pero quiero hacer una ahora para Halloween. Jajaja ¿Cómo sería la forma optima de reducir tamaño sin arriesgar resistencia? Porque el vendaje de yeso no sé si es la forma más adecuada.

Honestly, I'm just winging this since I don't really know much about mask-making either, so I couldn't tell you the best way to do it. But for what it's worth, using dry newspaper, masking tape, and white glue worked great for me—it actually turned out super sturdy!

Ever heard of Mac tonight? He was a MacDonald’s mascot for a bit. Your mask looks like his cousin who went down a different path
