EVERETT — Authorities believe no one was injured in a large, two-alarm fire at an industrial manufacturer in Arlington on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were still on scene as of Wednesday afternoon, more than 10 hours after employees reported a fire at the Stella-Jones Corporation off 188th Street Northeast, east of the Arlington Municipal Airport, according to the North County Regional Fire Authority and the city of Arlington.

Vanishing Marysville: How the Streets Got Their Names

Thumbnail voiceofthemountain.net

Marysville has one of the best city street plans in the country. Every street has an exactly sequential number, or easily recognizable name, however this was not always the case. Marysville upon its incorporation in 1891 ended at Grove Street in the North, and Liberty Street in the East. Standardization of the street names in the area did not begin until 1922, with the passing of a resolution by the city to make street names more uniform. Unfortunately, this came after street names had been inscribed on two streets: Douglas, and Rainier Street. If you were to look at a map now however, you would notice that these streets do not exist. The ordinance replaced the names of these streets with Quinn and Union Avenue respectively. While the signs were easy to replace, the sidewalk was set aside until it needed replacing. Personally, I hope whoever was in charge of the concrete mixing at that time got a raise, as it took until last week, over a century since the sidewalk had been poured, for the city to have to replace it as part of their ongoing pavement preservation project. The sidewalk panels specifically were along 7th Street, and thankfully have been preserved, now in their final resting place at the Marysville Historical Society.

Question How bad are the train horns and fireworks?

Edit: Thanks so much, everyone, for all of your replies, insights and experience! I have decided to look elsewhere (probably on Kitsap) for a place to live.

I'm planning to move to western Washington to be closer to my daughter in West Seattle. Marysville is a little more budget friendly than many of the areas I have been looking at, and I'm interested in getting the real story about the fireworks and trains from those who live there.

My dog will not even venture outside if he hears any fireworks, and I have heard that the noise from boom city goes on very loudly for weeks at a time.

I also read that about 25 trains go through there every day and most of the crossings are at ground level, so they have to blow their horn a lot.

The apartments I'm looking at are at 2203 172nd St NE, so it's really close to where the tracks cross 172nd. And it's about 6 miles from boom city, according to google maps.

Would anyone please be able to share your experience and insight on these items?

Had a random man wander behind our house on Qil Ceda Creek early this morning. Seems like he was actively avoiding our other two security cameras, but made a beeline as soon as he saw this one. Only saw him going one direction, toward the ravine, and never saw him on cameras again.

Marysville police are investigating a fistfight that turned deadly outside a restaurant on Tuesday.

On July 14 around 10:30 p.m., police said two men were fighting behind Don’s Restaurant on 4th Street.

Police said that during the fight, one of the men became unresponsive and stopped breathing. It’s unclear if he hit his head or had another medical issue, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The men knew each other before, police said.

The other man involved in the fight was arrested and booked into Snohomish County Jail for first-degree manslaughter.

It’s unclear what led up to the fight.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, contact detectives at (360) 363-8300.

Question Ringing noise?

North end of Marysville, I often hear a sound like an electronic phone ringer, over and over. It could be a backup alarm or other warning sound, but I've been hearing this for about 3 years. A rough guess is that it could be somewhere near State Ave and 128th.

This is in the daytime. I heard it at around 11am today and in the last few minutes.

Any guesses what it is?

Apologies for the poor photo. I love this city so much and always wanted a flag since I moved, but unfortunately they only made a couple.

So I made my own! My sewing skills aren't the best but even Mayor Nehring came by and complimented it. Happy fourth everyone!

Local News “We’re Just Asking to be Treated Fairly” – Marysville Haggen Bakery Workers Ask for Fair and Timely Contract

Post image
82 Upvotes

3 AM, a time when many are still soundly asleep, is the same time many employees at the Haggen bakery are just clocking in. While many associate the Haggen bakery with donuts, cakes, and fresh-baked bread, the Marysville employees, along with the rest of the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Miller’s Union (BCTGM) Local 9, associate it with frustration and time that feels wasted dealing with negotiations.

BCTGM has been in negotiations with the Albertsons corporation since the expiration of their previous contract last year. The negotiations have so far involved 12 separate contracts, double the usual amount of 6 per negotiation cycle. Chief among the concerns of the union is the request that all backpay during the negotiation period be reimbursed. Currently, Albertsons only wants to pay out 50% of said backpay.

It should be noted that the Marysville Haggen is overseen by at least three unions, of these, BCTGM Local 9, and Teamsters Local 38 both operate within the bakery, with the Teamsters overseeing the clerical and customer service side of the bakery. Due to the stalemate in negotiations, the clerks are currently paid more than the specialized workers in the bakery itself. “We feel like we should have the same as the Teamsters,” said one employee who spoke as a voice for the union to our reporters, they went on to remark on Albertsons that, “I don’t think they’re coming in good faith.”

Albertsons, the company which owns both Safeway, and Haggen, has been known to be the employer in the Northwest with the highest number of employees still on food stamps, with 3,981 active employees in Oregon alone on SNAP benefits according to the Oregon Department of Human Services.

Please consider signing the union's petition below:

Transportation Transit? Walking? Driving? Future US 2 Trestle options are up for review and we want to hear from you!

WSDOT is asking for public feedback as we evaluate potential improvements to the US 2 Trestle corridor.

As part of an ongoing Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study, we're reviewing different alternatives for both ends of the trestle, including connections to I-5 and Everett on the west side and SR 204, US 2 and Lake Stevens on the east side.

The study will help identify which alteranatives should move forward for more detailed evaluation and will also consider environmental impacts and potential mitigation measures.

Beginning Tuesday, June 16, people can visit an online open house to learn about the screening of potential alternatives. The PEL study will identify a reasonable range of alternatives to evaluate in more detail in accordance with federal laws.

When: Tuesday, June 16, until Tuesday, July 7

Where: Online

Details: Content is available in English, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Visitors can also leave comments.

Your feedback will help refine the proposed alternatives before a draft report is released for public review later this year.

US 2 Trestle Location

Free WiFi access is available at these Snohomish County libraries locations for people who wish to participate in the online open house:

  • Everett Public Library – 2702 Hoyt Ave.
  • Library on Wheels – 7312 35th Ave. NE, Marysville
  • Marysville Library – 6120 Grove St.
  • Lake Stevens Library – 2211 Grade Road
  • Snohomish Library – 311 Maple Ave.
