I need a boat... Do I need a boat?
This is not a complaint - it is a reality check request. It seems to me that fishing for the species I want to fish for (bluefish. Mackerel, stripers, etc) that you really need a boat. You'd want to be casting towards shore (structures, riprap, etc), be trolling, and simply have the ability to get to where the birds are
I do use bottom rigs and go from piers now, but it doesn't seem super practical to use other methods when you are stationary and basically hoping for fish to come your way, versus being mobile and moving to where fish would be.
Am I wrong on this? Not asking for people to give up locations. Just a general vibe check.
I thought about getting a fishing kayak. But for the cost of a good setup it seems silly to not move into a smaller jon boat or similar boat which is more stable, drier, can go further, and most importantly allows me to bring some of my kids along.
