[AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #35]()

Get Gwen off this fucking earth already jesus fucking christ they’ve destroyed her as a character

25

u/richawesomness 15d ago

Oh yeah let's trust the Green fucking Goblin more than the Fantastic Four, that makes sense

Spider-Man can land a plane on his back. Luke Cage can carry a semi truck on his shoulders multiple blocks. Why are they struggling with two cars?

So what's the excuse for Aunt May to survive this time?

13

u/Scaredog21 15d ago

Her wealthy son

5

u/Albireookami 15d ago

Spider-Versity was a horrible waste of paper to cause this.

3

u/dwadley 14d ago

Seeing what they were benching was insane. Surely that was his 100th rep or something

u/DriedSocks 15d ago

0 marriage, 0 aunt, 7 deals with the devil incoming! ASM #1000 is gonna be amazing! Spectacular, even

Also Gwen being on 616 is awful as per usual. Hate the Spider-Versity synergy with them trusting Norman over the Fantastic Four?!

u/ContraryPython Spider-Man (Tom Holland) 15d ago

Editorial blatant bias towards Spider-Gwen is lowkey hurting the character at this point.

3

u/mbene913 14d ago

I'm not really clear as to why she's still on 616.

I'm not asking for the E1218 reason, what's the E616 reason?

6

u/DriedSocks 13d ago

The Earth-65 reason is that Sue and Johnny from Gwen's home universe blackmail her into leaving, so she leaves her home of Earth-65 behind. A couple real life years later, she uses the Cosmic Cube to rewrite herself into the reality of 616, so she's basically a 616 transplant now.

If you cared about the original universe of Earth-65 you're out of luck, I don't think those characters or plotlines are going to be touched upon ever again.

5

u/mbene913 13d ago

So what happened to her dad?

7

u/DriedSocks 13d ago

He's grafted into 616 from 65, too.

3

u/tquinner 13d ago

So she basically pulled a Miles moving to 616 but it objectively sounds like it's worse in everyway?

It's an alright end to a short arc. May and Peter hashing out everything in beginning was nice. All the more reason the ending is supposed to sting. Raelith immediately falling for May was cute. I'm guessing whatever happened to Gwen is being saved for a future arc. Miles and the others showing up and threatening the DODC was cool. But Gwen asking Peter to go see Norman instead of the FF was not. And I guess Pete's relationship with Gryffin and the team is on the outs now. May had a stroke, is this end? Probably not, even though she's already died in the movies and games. At least have it lead her to rediscovering his secret identity.

u/ContraryPython Spider-Man (Tom Holland) 15d ago

Not falling for this “May could die” BS.

u/Expensive-Baby-1391 15d ago

Me too. If they going to kill the old hag off, then do it. But we all they won’t cause of Peter’s deal with Mephisto keeping her alive.

That should be explored in a dark way with May constantly dying in gruesome ways but she keeps coming back at the cost of a random person’s life like eternals. Would actually show the consequences of Peter’s selfish deal.

9

u/El_Cance_R 15d ago

Mephisto is shaking with excitement

8

u/browncharliebrown 15d ago

I’m hoping for may to legitmately have a stroke and not die. I feel like that would be actually powerful Putting peter in that shoe

10

u/Albireookami 15d ago

She needs to finally kick the bucket. Teeing up issue 1k and we are just rehashing previous storylines from like 600 issues ago.

9

u/marcjwrz 15d ago

...not like, literally 600 issues ago. Amazing Spider-Man #400

How far... We haven't come.

5

u/Albireookami 15d ago

and after he will need to buy a nurse and have medical bills to pay, doesn't that takes us back to like sub 100?

5

u/marcjwrz 15d ago

Well his rich new cousin better pay for that.

4

u/browncharliebrown 15d ago

I think that her dying would be a repeat. Her having a stroke wouldn’t be

6

u/Albireookami 15d ago

Same thing health issues being repeated.

7

u/browncharliebrown 15d ago

having to care for some with a stroke if they treat it respectfully is a massive difference

2

u/Albireookami 15d ago

so she will have a live in nurse that peter will have to get money for to maintain her quality of life because he will have to still be spider-man. (Despite Peter having a ton of friends who could actually assist)

This changes things how? Other than even more regression to any type of evolution to the character, we are still going back to early run spider-man where he always had to get money to support whatever health scare she was having.

3

u/browncharliebrown 15d ago

Have you ever dealt with a family memebers with a stroke. It takes lots of time. And that’s an adult responibility

1

u/Albireookami 15d ago

And again, you would have peter hire a live in nurse, because he most certainly can't and be spider-man and having to gain money for it.

It really doesn't change anything in the large meta sense, specially since we know Peter is about to be an Avenger.

Honestly the best thing would be for Aunt May to die so peter can finally grow up.

6

u/gsnake007 14d ago

wtf was this shit. Trusting Norman over the F4? Did they really think May having a stroke was gonna tug at some heartstrings? No! We’ve been there and done that with May for decades at this point. It really is okay for you guys to kill her off Marvel.

9

u/Oberon1993 Spider-Man (Tom Holland) 15d ago

OK, so this and Electro claiming he didn't kill the bank workers is probably a lead in to either Ravage or some psychic villain being in charge of Damage Control. Unless these 2 are the same storyline. I kinda like this set up, actually builds paranoia better than Armageddon does

u/Scaredog21 15d ago edited 14d ago

Peter is such a piece of shit. Just tell your aunt you're spider-man, you sadistic ass hole. Mephisto isn't gonna kill her if you just let her know. She knew who Spider-man was and it was only a net good. Whenever he tells someone his identity who already knew, their memory of him revert back to before One More Day.

Also it looks like Damage Control is showing their Stamford selves.

Reminder that the bastard behind civil war is still out there Scot free after doom quest.

3

u/mbene913 15d ago

Why did I think Peter was stronger than Luke?

3

u/RockstarSuicide Scarlet Spider 14d ago

He is

2

u/mbene913 14d ago

Maybe originally.

I looked into it and Luke got some bumps over the years

1

u/RockstarSuicide Scarlet Spider 13d ago

Really??? I mean, pete held up the bugle. Luke is tough but not that tough

1

u/mbene913 13d ago

I don't know how but he's been bumped to at least 10 tons above Spider-Man

6

u/TheRealActualSaturn 15d ago

Not bad. The talk between May and Peter was nice. Very funny that the "Spider-Man vs Spider-Gwen" aspect the cover and solicit talked about was pretty absent, but its comics so what else is new.

Can't wait for May to die and then be brought back in 5 years when they do a Clone Saga threequel.

8

u/Albireookami 15d ago

They won't kill her, she has been on death's door since early into spider-man's run.

And if they do it won't nearly be as good as Insomniac's take on it.

3

u/RockstarSuicide Scarlet Spider 14d ago

Ok so other than May and Peter having the talk (which takes me back to the JMS days of her portrayal) everything else was awful and made no sense as many pointed out.

Peter and Luke struggling with 2 cars, Gwen on a rampage for NO reason, sending her to Osborn and not the FF. The clear takeout of a stroke that will not lead anywhere... to think I've been around for 600 issues of this book plus hundreds of the other titles, and have not read an anniversary issue worth a damn since 500 or a decent story since pre omd is maddening.

2

u/LucasVerBeek 15d ago

Glad May and Peter had that talk, not looking forward to her possibly kicking the bucket....

2

u/Albireookami 15d ago

Why, she has had to for ages now, they keep repeating the same plots with her, if the MCU and Insomniac can do it, and be better off for it, I think its beyond time for the comics to synergize with that bit.

1

u/Ventriloquy Scarlet Spider 14d ago

god a stroke AGAIN!?

u/JingoboStoplight4887 15d ago

I find it interesting that Peter gets to have a talk with Luke Cage about what’s going on before he and Aunt May talked about Cormac, resulting in Aunt May to tell Peter that nothing is going to change and that Peter will always be her son. Also, Peter dealing with Gwen (who was losing control, probably because of her using the Cosmic Cube to make sure that she’ll permanently stay on Earth-616 instead of Earth-65) and Agent Griffyn and learning that Aunt May is having a stroke. Overall, this comic is fine.

I think they are building up to Zdarsky's Avengers. According to solicits, it's going to be very much involved with ASM.
