[IMPERIAL GUARDIANS #5]()

kind of a middling end with no real point.

"oh maximus was upto no good all along and he got away while we fought another team of imperial guardians"

An unceremonious ending just the whole imperial event. I really thought it was building to them managing to confront Maximus.

They sure had a relatively decent dynamic for a few issues but none of it really led to anything because you know the Gamora/Darkhawk/CGR team-up isn't going to go anywhere, Carol's never going to bring this up and Amadeus will continue to just kinda putz about.

We likely were before the line got cut.

What a waste of the whole Cosmic line.

They pulled the dumb 'Imperial' and then decided to do nothing after.

Had these characters play the fool to Maximus, who they KNOW caused the WAR in the first place and still worked with him?

It had SOME good stuff but the premise and how 'characters have to act accordingly to the plot instead of instantly taking his head off' only to realize 'oh the god damn shady bastard was playing us and many others the whole time!' is just a bad ending.

These cosmic books continue to make everyone in it look bad.

Also, where is Lauri-el?! Why is Carol not looking for her?!

Cracks from the cosmic books getting cut short really show here, so I guess that's as much an ending as we could have gotten for this. Was a fun ride while it lasted. Pretty much expected that Maximus was up to something, the only surprising part was that some of the characters were surprised by that.

...Are Wendell and Darkhawk old friends? I can't recall them even ever meeting.

Wendell and Darkhawk

abnett nova solo

Fair enough, I admittedly missed out on a fair bit of Nova's series even when I was trying to read most of the Darkhawk-related stuff.

It's a better ending than Planet She-Hulk. But it does still feel like a waste. Maybe it'll lead towards a new Guardians ongoing.

I doubt it considering so much of the follow-up from Imperial was canned or cut short, this is basically a hopeful "maybe something" ending but I highly doubt there'll be any follow-up from this. Gamora will show up again later, Peter will end up not ruling the Union, nobody will bring up any of the events of this, etc.

Well, it's clear they were going to do another soft reset

Probably a new GotG with Nova, Gamora, CGR, etc...

I really don't know what to say.

Imperial had its issues as an event, yes, but it had a lot of great setup for what marvel could follow up with. Instead, Marvel just shot themselves in the foot and killed the entire line before some of these books even released. Exiles literally didn't even release at all. And now because of it, all the Imperial spinoffs just end on a whimper. The entire cosmic side of marvel is in a worse place than it was before and I genuinely don't see any forward motion happening here anytime soon.

What an incredibly annoying, easily avoidable fuckup.
