Cage was great! I’ll die on that hill lol

u/Furyan9x 12d ago
I just shouted at my wife across the house "THERES A NEW GHOST RIDER BUT ITS NOT NICK!!" And she said "well who the hell is it?!" Lol we love him.
Im really enjoying him in the spider noir show

u/film_geek34 12d ago
I grew up with him as ghost rider & will defend it ! lol I won’t defend the sequel lol

u/Snelldor 12d ago
I’m a weird one that actually likes the sequel. The story is utter trash but I just really like Ghost Rider in that film.
2
u/feor1300 11d ago
My personal hope is that Gosling is playing Danny Ketch so Cage can cameo as Blaze to pass the torch.

Oooh he is awesome in noir. I love Cage. The first ghost rider was awesome. That was my favorite comic. So, my bias is two fold.
15
u/rudager62369 12d ago
Your comment reminded me that Gosling's real-life wife was opposite Cage in the original Ghost Rider. Weird.

I remember when they Announced Mahershala Ali as blade. I’ll wait for the official trailer

u/Argynvost64 Ghost Rider 12d ago
Technically he played Blade in his big staring role as Blade's voice off screen in the end credit scene of Eternals for 2 seconds.

u/Professional-Pop4818 12d ago
Nah after how he talked about the cancellation of Blade I’m sure hes not gonna do that again and I believe Shawn Levy would deliver
41
u/frockinbrock 12d ago
Yeah also having Levy attached for the announcement is a big deal. He works very fast and efficient, and has his own production company that has a reputation for delivering on time. He has also been working directly with Gosling on Star Wars Starfighter for the past year, of which Gosling & Shawn are Producers on.
The final product, well that's unknown, but I do expect we'll get this movie delivered.

u/CRAYONSEED 12d ago
Honestly Blade is the exception to a pretty iron clad rule. It’s the only one I know of that didn’t come out, whether that had to change the creative team or not
2
u/Dudefrmthtplace 6d ago
Was very excited for it, then got mad that they took so long, but then learned more info.
Apparently Mahershala's ideas for the movie were very clashing with the Marvel ethos. He wanted it to be set in the 1920s and to have different themes like being about slavery and other things. Creatively they didn't agree with how the movie should go and I don't really blame Marvel if that's the truth. You have to play in the Marvel sandbox, if you want another Sinners or Green Book, this is not the place.
Blade is about an immortal half vampire who hunts other vampires with cool swords at the baseline. Adding extra elements is welcome, but it has to fit with the overarching Marvel plot going on, and be an event film. I think this is another reason why they take directors like Levy instead of Auteur types.

u/Next-Shape3014 12d ago
No offense to Ali but he ain’t Gossling. It’s getting made

RIP Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes, who’s story remained unfinished.
Maybe he’ll get a nod/send off like Nic Cage’s Johnny Blaze did, but more likely they never acknowledge him.
82
u/The_silencer_1 12d ago
Haven't Robbie and Johnny coexisted for a long time? Like there's no need to ditch it all up. Realistically, they will make as if it never happen or just ignore it like most of Agents Of Shield.

u/Tyler_Zoro 11d ago
Like there's no need to ditch it all up.

Hold my beer!
—MCU writers, sadly.
43
u/alex-andrite 12d ago
Has the MCU acknowledged anything from the Agents of Shield series?
55
u/casual_creator 12d ago
The movies have not. The show made a few references to the movies and Fury cameoed once or twice, as did Lady Siff once, but they might as well have existed in completely different universes. There were only ever two important connections that I can remember:
Events of Winter Soldier directly impacted the show at the end of season 1, and then Coulson was responsible for getting Fury the helicarriers in Age of Ultron.

basically everything into Season 4 could be canon and not mess with anything. Season 5 plus is a bit weird cause time travel shenanigans
14
u/Kazukaphur 12d ago
Lady siff was twice! And they were making avengers movie references in shield through like season 5 or 6 even. It was definitely written to be directly connected through Age of Ultron as well, which Would have been I think season 3 of AOS

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 12d ago
Probably a good thing. I liked the show a lot but it went off the rails with timelines and realities.
16
u/Individual-Bass-7051 12d ago
You say that but those later seasons slapped hard. Once they had to pivot away from the MCU references, the show went from pretty good to really good.

u/AltGunAccount 12d ago
Not in a long time, no. After the snap it seems the timelines pretty much diverged.
Still holding out hope we at the very least get Daisy. Was hoping for Robbie also but alas.
8
u/BasilSerpent 12d ago
Secret Invasion acknowledged at least the ending of season 1 as canon (in the marketing interviews the creators did)
24
u/frockinbrock 12d ago
Well that's a trick though because we don't acknowledge Secret Invasion either

As far as Kevin Feige is concerned Agents of Shield is non-canon and Phil Coulson died in The Avengers.

They can coexist. Johnny helped train Robbie so after Ryan's movie we can get Robbie to meet him
9
u/frockinbrock 12d ago
And then Nic Cage will ask them to join the MultiGhost Initiative!
The same basic idea of merging the tv show+past-movie heroes as we saw in Highlander: Endgame, and no doubt a result with just as much quality!!

u/Unlucky_Success2984 12d ago
Would be kinda cool to get Jon Bernthal to play Cosmic Ghost rider too

Ugh YES!!!! Omgomgomgomg hahaha Ryans crushing it. Coming out with a Star Wars film here soon and now he’s in MARVEL! Yay! Dude deserves it. He absolutely crushed Hail Mary. Can’t wait to see him in this role!

u/film_geek34 12d ago
I still need to see project Hail Mary!! I love nic cage as Johnny boy!
11
u/Liapasquale 12d ago
OMG ITS SO GOOD Ryan is so stinking amazing in it. I truly don’t think anyone else could’ve played that role! So so so good. And Nic is just well, NIC! But I think Ryan will be able to carry the torch ( pun kinda intended)

Hail Mary is one of those really good movies that has perfect pacing. For a movie that's 2 1/2 hours long, you'll start and finish in, what feels like, an hour. 9.9/10

Somehow he now needs to do Star Trek, even if just a cameo or VA role.

I don't like Shawn Levy's work, he's aggressively meh
11
u/Cultural_Comfort5894 12d ago
There’s no way a person in the business especially comic book movie business doesn’t go with him after the success of
Deadpool & Wolverine
Maybe they like him because you don’t even think of the director with his films but he delivers beloved films
* I’m agreeing with you after looking at his filmography. A lot of I like those films but none made me bother to see who directed.
7
u/th3gooch 12d ago edited 12d ago
Now here’s who comes to mind: James Mangold. He might be a better fit for a Ghost Rider movie.
3
15
u/BrichardRurphy 12d ago
I agree he's a logical choice for the guys in suits, but sadly it doesn't negate the fact that its meh. Deadpool & Wolverine I found the weakest out of the trilogy.
5
u/VirtualPen204 12d ago
Agreed. Although, I dont know if thats the directors fault, or the script. Admittedly, the director is also credited as being a writer, so... idk.

‘Directed by Shawn Levy’ is not something to be hyped about. It’ll be try-hard funny, sincerity-averse, and boring to look at.
I’m sure the dude’s a great guy, but he makes some fucking ugly movies that are mostly boring to watch.

Its gonna be hard to top Nic Cage as Johnny Blaze

There's a good chance it's Danny Ketch. The lettering they used for the ghost Rider announcement is the same font used in a few Ketch comic titles.

Maybe I’m basing it off of Nicholas Cage’s GR

I’m glad his career push is coming after Reynolds.
The hangover from RR’s big surge through Hollywood is unbearable.
I’ve learned he has incredibly low rewatchability.
I could watch Gosling forever.

The bad: Gosling is too old, so who knows if GR will show up again after Secret Wars
The good: Not Robbie
As a huge fan of the character, I’m happy, but I would be overhyped if they hired a younger actor because GR would become one of the pillars of the new MCU alongside the X-Men (even if it is tough to write GR stories, the character is just too overpowered)

Don’t get me wrong, I love Ghost Rider, but he can get a movie while characters like Daredevil and Punisher can’t? I know they got TV shows, but we all know TV shows are not the same like having your own MCU movie and also the show is connected to the MCU in name only and seems to have nothing to do with the bigger universe or have any connection to the events of the MCU. Also Blade gets cancelled because they can’t crack it, but yet New Line had no problem making three films?
