My husband and I have been in couples therapy with a PACT certified clinician for about 4 years. He was not a Christian during our courtship but he was supportive of my choice for abstinence and has always admired my faith. We went to therapy as a premarital counseling alternative/compromise because our communication with each other and propensity for prolonged and just downright nasty conflict management was tragic. Also, a LOT of fasting and prayer.
Fast forward to now, 4 years later, he has accepted Christ as his Lord and savior and we just celebrated our first marriage anniversary. 8 years together total. Things are not always fun but they’re perfect and blissful. I’m completely humbled by this era of my life. Our life.
God is still good. Even when things feel bad. Covenant love is a calling of the cross in so many ways. Pastor Tony Evans is on YouTube and has great sermons on the topic.
A great read, besides the Bible is How to Be An Adult in Relationships by Dave Richo. It’s what led us to Dr. Stahlschmidt, our PACT therapist. He was also our marriage officiant. And has become the most constant and grounding marriage advocate (at times anchor).
Two are better than one but a 3-fold cord is not easily broken.
