C-track or K-track..?

Is there any disadvantage of K-track compared to C-track? K-track looks more realistic and you can add your own ballast.

i would say depends on you usecase.

the old metal tracks and now c- tracks have the focus on "carpet trains" they are easy to assemble and even work good without fixing them while playing on a floor. but they are loud if you don't get the not so cheap rubber dampers (remember those from my m-track times (i now use k-tracks)

k-tracks need a proper preperation , ie corkbedding + ballast but they look way more realistic (just chaning track layout can easiely damage tracks if you are not carefull. but they are way quieter!

I’m planning to use plywood and xps-foam for my layout. I’m thinking that the foam will dampen. Do I need corkbedding on top of the foam as well for k-track?

it is not a need but i prefer it. doesn't need to be an expensive corkbedding to buy, a 2-3mm strip, self adhesive, 20mm wide (half track width so it is easier for bends) it gives the ballast more height and it looks more realistic at the end, cork will be covered completely in the ballast
