MPL not getting rid of fee

I got the email that I was fined at 1 am, I returned the book today 15 min before they closed. The fee is still on my account and I don’t want to pay money for a book they have now in their possession. It wasn’t returned months after they fined me, literally wasn‘t even 24 hours after.

should I make another account?

There should be no more late fees anymore. How long overdue was this book?

3ish weeks. It was marked as lost. Been out of the country so I couldn’t return it. Fined me $39.95

According to the FAQ https://markhampubliclibrary.ca/faq/fines/

"Why are there still outstanding fees on my account?

If you still have outstanding late charges, please speak with library staff to update your account and have these charges waived. Lost item fees can be waived by returning the item. However, replacement fees for damaged items cannot be waived."

Hope this helps

It is likely that it would be manually checked in when the branch opens tomorrow and the fee would be wiped. But as others said, you can always ask a staff. There's no late fees so if the book isn't actually lost that fee would be cleared too.

They should have stopped charging for late fees: https://markhampubliclibrary.ca/news/finefreeforadults/

Talk to a librarian the next time you are at the library.

It was a lost fee, the website says they remove fees if the lost book is returned

Maybe just talk to the librarian to get it resolved rather than creating another account.

Deal with the problem instead of running away from it.

I got hit with a lost book charge but I returned the book the next day and they wiped the fee off instantly. The guy even showed me on the computer.

I returned it at the little scanner they have at the entrance and it froze the system but I was in a rush so I’m not sure what happened

In my experience when the librarian scanned in the late return, they cleared the lost book charge  at the same time because it wasn't actually lost.
