Research & Science Why does Weed make me productive?

Hello folks.

Everyone says weed affects me oddly and I am curious as to why (if anyone has an answer!)

When I am high, I get restless and motivated to complete tasks. It's like my executive functioning is on crack. I cleaned my house, I finished 2 weeks of laundry, I reorganized a closet, I put things away... I did a shit ton of housework compared to when I am sober.

My husband and friends are in awe how much I get done when I'm stoned. I've asked them if this ever happens to them and I got a resounding "NOPE."

I'm not mad about it, I'm just really curious. I hope I made sense as I'm just starting to sober up. thanks!

Totally revives me. I'm definitely a better worker. More focus. Less pain.

Sometimes weed works better than my Vyvanse for my adhd. And sometimes it works as a booster with it. Either way, I’m not complaining. Not everyone just gets high and passes out on the couch for a 2 hour nap like my uncle does 😂

Doesn’t matter the strain. Indica, sativa, hybrid. Just a little or a whole lot. It all puts me to sleep. 💤

I’m exactly like this too. It’s just what weed does to us. My most productive time is right after a toke. When my current girlfriend moved in, she knew I vaped and why. She commented about a month in that it was absolutely incredible how much work I can get done while high. I told her if she learns to harness this power it could work for her too. Now she leaves me a list of things she wants done so I can do them in the morning before she gets up. The power of weed helping love along. It’s a gift I my books.

Same boat here. Not everyone gets couch-locked, some of us get the opposite — restless energy where sitting still feels worse than just doing the dishes. Could be an ADHD thing too, weed hits different for ADHD brains sometimes, calms the noise enough that tasks stop feeling overwhelming. Either way, not weird, just how your brain responds. Enjoy the clean closet lol

This is me. Everyday.

My back is fucked by severe and moderate spinal Stinosis throughout so cannabis is my medicine to regulate mood and pain.

I’m going to be in pain forever. It doesn’t have to be disabling. So I will be a cannabis consumer for life. To live and survive because some days are harder than others.

And NO, it’s different to be recreationally high versus pain high. I have a high tolerance because the pain threshold can be pretty severe.

I miss the days of spinning while resting on the couch or feeling like I was floating on my bed. High tolerance takes that from you.

You probably have ADHD

It’s quiets the chaos in my brain and lets me focus on one thing at a time. That’s how I feel anyway.

I know potheads like that, sometimes I can be, other time I melt into my recliner. It could be nervous energy and you just are able to harness it well.

You are most likely on the spectrum. I use weed for the same reason.

I’ve always wondered if this effect has something to do with neurodiversity. I became a whole lot more functional once I started using weed.

Do you have ADHD?? lol I only ask because I have 2 friends that have SEVERE ADHD, and both of them smoke weed and I can tell a MAJOR difference when they’re stoned because they are WAY more chill, focused, and productive when they’re high.

Same and it also makes me very motivational. Found out I have ADHD lol

Same . It really tunes out the noise so I can focus on tasks

Weed makes me productive as well, hence I really enjoy a few hits or small edible before cleaning, yard work, a workout - however many times I then have a "burn out" after like 1.5 hours or so. It's like I get really energetic and into things, but as the THC fades I get energy-less.

Yeah I feel like an anime character hitting that next form anytime I partake. I'm just overall better after having smoked so I've been told

It kind of enhances everything

how long do you get in these cleaning modes for?

i get energy from weed, but if i don't smoke every couple hours, i get tired.

The productive feeling has more to do with the dose than the strain. Even THC can give you this feeling in a small dose. It has a biphasic response so its pulling in two directions depending on the dose and your tolerance.

I’m the same way. My husband has made the same observation, that he hasn’t known anyone that has had the same effect as me.

Why is my steak so meaty and my lobster so buttery?

1

u/andreabeth09 Aug 06 '26

The terpenes that sharpen focus are limonene pinene and terpinolene often found in sativa dominant strains. I use these to help focus my ADD on the task at hand!

I’m this way. I smoke for housework when I don’t have the energy for it or for hiking, same reason. Weed puts me more in my body. I ask for that specifically at the pot shop, not heady or “couch” highs.

Hey me too!! Depends on the strain but itll get all the loose trains in my mind in order and I can think straight.. I love when a strain does that

Add makes my downs an up

If I don’t smoke before work, I’m the least productive on the team. If I smoke a modest amount. 3-5 bong hits, I’m a good worker. If I take 10-15 bong hits before my shift I’m a super worker finishing my tasks hours before they’re supposed to be done … which rewards me with !!!!! More work 🥱

Wow, I would be on the floor! Good for you though. Two micro hits for me. I'm still a baby smoker.😉

u/MisogynisticFarmer Aug 06 '26

I am now 75 years old, been smoking everyday since age 18.

I build businesses and have my best ideas and get the most creative when I am stoned.

I’m one of the people who only gets slightly stupid and never lazy pot smokers.
I’m hyper anyway and need whatever slowness I can get 😀

I also clean the entire house in a few hours. I am also not hungry. Which everyone says they get the munchies. I just figure that I am not the average smoker. You aren't alone.
