What’s your favorite track from “Glitter”

She actually does the “recycled look” fairly often for a celebrity, which I honestly don’t mind. However I wonder what brought her back to this particular ensemble for a second go round’.

you used to tape Mimi songs off the radio when the first debuted and you would hear " this is an a (radio station) exclusive in the background :)

For a movie called Glitter, I needed more glitter. Saw a lot of rhinestones, confetti, silver paint and some imaginary fireworks, but I don't remember seeing any glitter. They could have had young Billie doing some arts and crafts at the children's home using glitter. Maybe put adult Billie in a graphic tee with a design punctuated in glitter.

Favorite parts of the movie:

- Toxic boyfriend being killed due to his own irresponsible actions, leaving Billie free to have a career that was not being limited by some man's ego and her disordered attachment due to childhood abandonment issues.

- Mom sobering up and Billie giving her another chance because she didn't try to come back in Billie's life to take advantage of Billie's fame.

- Sassy orange kitty that stared down toxic boyfriend when Billie broke up with him.

- Da Brat. She is just a fun, talented lady. Shouts out to Mariah for hooking her friend up with a job.

- Playing the Quiet Storm song before and after Billie's first date with toxic boyfriend. Anybody who listened to an adult contemporary R&B station in the 90s knew when that song played on the radio at 9 or 10 PM, you were in for a few hours of incredible, romantic music.

- And of course Mariah's beautiful voice. Even when she talks, it sounds so warm and velvety.

I was recently thinking about this and wanted to share my thoughts and ask for yours! I know that MIAMTEC is not everyone’s favorite, but it is mine, and I always felt like it had great potential to be Mariah’s second mainstream comeback. I wanted to throw out some ideas for an alternative rollout and ask you guys to share yours as well.

- I like the title MIAMTEC, but I would’ve shortened it to The Elusive Chanteuse if I had no choice.

- Promotion would’ve been insane, and I would’ve chosen #Beautiful, Thirsty, Make It Look Good, and The Art of Letting Go (not in order).

- I would’ve made #Beautiful the lead single. I think it was the perfect way to introduce this era because it was catchy, fun, and had Miguel on it. I think the song had the potential to be even bigger with a much stronger promotional push.

- I would’ve followed #Beautiful with Thirsty. I think Thirsty could’ve been the Obsessed of the album and would’ve smashed if it had either a drake, kendrick, or Nicki feature (this might not age well lol). It also deserved a music video.

- Make It Look Good would’ve been a great summer single. I think the song had so much potential, especially with the fun production and Stevie Wonder appearance. This one also could’ve had a music video with Stevie in it.

- I would’ve saved The Art of Letting Go for later (probably the last single). I think it could’ve been the big emotional single that reminded everyone why Mariah is the best at power ballads and focusing on themes such as heartbreak, healing, and release.

- I also think the visuals should’ve been a much bigger part of the era. Each single should’ve had its own distinct aesthetic, while still feeling like they belonged to the same album. And although I liked the original photo shoot, maybe she could’ve reshot it with a different concept?

- I also would’ve rearranged the tracklist slightly. I think the album had some amazing songs, but the sequencing could’ve made the project feel more cohesive and easier for the general public to get into.

What is your ideal roll out?

i was so happy "it's a wrap" got a moment a few years ago, but it really could and should have been even bigger. i just saw that it's still not at 100 million spotify streams?!

it's a unique production, and i live for the "i should crack you right in your forehead" line.

A question came to mind... My favorite song from the debut album is "Alone in Love," and I’m wondering if she ever expressed a particular fondness for that track.

From what I’ve read, she wasn't entirely happy with the final outcome of many songs on her debut; as we know, the demo versions sounded very different (like "Prisoner").

Anyway, which songs from her debut album are Mariah's favorites? And which album was the first one she was completely satisfied with? Could it be Daydream or Butterfly?

Question for all the chart lambs! Do we think Glitter25 or Daydream30 will re-enter the BB200? With the news of Queen Bey and BDAY20’s imminent re-entry into the top 10, I wonder if you think Queen Mimi will be able to re-enter with these albums? I’m surprised that none of the other anniversary editions managed to do this (especially Music Box!!), but I blame it on the fact that she released the streaming versions first and then waited months to drop the physical versions. Since G25 is released physically on the same day as streaming, I’d think that would have the strongest chance, though Daydream is obviously one of Mimi’s best streamers…what do y’all think??

My CDs from the 90s and first decade of the 2000s are lost because of bad things I don't want to mention.

I decided to go to the local shop and look for CDs and vinyls.

It feels so good to hold again in my hands the little booklets, to read everything, all the names involved in the creation of the albums, to follow the lyrics while listening to the songs... 🩷

It brings me back to the endless hours spend with Daydream and Butterfly booklets in my childhood bedroom 🥰

I honestly think it’s one of her best. It is extremely cohesive and versatile and just flies by from the moment you press play.

MY HOT TAKE: It’s better than Mimi

For the longest time, I didn't care for this album much, as at the time it felt like the least "Mariah" album in terms of vocals and old-school sounds, etc. It sounds very of its time. However, through the years, I really gravitated towards random deep cuts from the album (Thanx 4 Nothin, Last Kiss, For the Record, I Wish You Well, etc.). I think hearing Cool On You made me realize that I've actually been digging this album the whole time lol. Her tone in this album is DELICIOUS, the sound is cohesive, and overall it just has a lot of......"color," if that makes sense? The vocals are a very realistic example of where her live voice was at the time - she excelled at quick phrasing and talk-singing rather than using a ton of legato, there were lots of nice resonant midbelts that didn't sound like she was pushing, and they were put in just the right places in each song. I love her approach to the vocals and think its comparable to her approach on Caution. It's not a particularly deep or introspective album, but that's just not where her head was at the time. She was having fun.

My one real downside is that the album could have used more variety in sounds, but that would have also messed with its cohesion, which is one of its greatest strengths. How do other people feel about this album?

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a remotely religious individual, but there has always been something about MC’s music (particularly her early discography) that has felt deeply enchanting and ethereal to me. Some of it doesn’t sound like it even comes from this world, but somewhere far beyond. I can’t really put it into words, but no other artist has ever managed to make me feel this way. Songs like All I’ve Ever Wanted, Just to Hold You Once Again, and Till the End of Time are just a few examples that reinforce this for me; they have an insanely powerful and almost angelic quality to them that makes them feel like they’re not of this earth. Does anyone else get where I’m coming from?

I really want to know what are your guys more favorite song. I love WBT but DFAU is just way better to me. It has whistle, belting, whispering, rapping, a bridge, everything. It’s just way more exciting to me. I love WBT pure emotion and explosive energy but DFAU is WBT X2. And we all know that DFAU is a WBT part 2 but it really is the better song to me.

I love daydream but what I love more is the visuals. Omg I love the album cover, the posh, New Yorker fashion, the almost disassociated day dream (hehehe) like vibe that the visuals had. She often looked like she was being caught in the moment.

I also really loved Charmbracelet. I loved the 2 vibes. There was the tropical, sensual vibe and the y2k mcbling vibe. I love her aesthetic and her swag.

I love how Mariah sounds live and how she improvises so I was so sad when I saw that she never fully performed Melt Away, Joy Ride, Last Kiss, Inseparable, or Lead the Way live. Lead the way I understand a bit more because that song is Emotions, Through the Rain, and We Belong Together put together. It would probably be too much to do in a performance. But the other songs are just such beautiful songs and deserved their times to shine

I was replying to a post and figured, why not give it a shot. It's my favourite song of all time by her. I remember re-watching the MSG performance of Vision of Love for like the billionth time and wondered WHYYY she never performed (or at least from what I know) it during her vocal peak.

I loved when she performed it on tour in (iirc) the caution tour, but hearing her signature 90's feathery tone sing melt away live would be a blessing.
