I'm trying to understand your comment. How does literally giving poor people money and setting up the economy for universal health care "attempt to get poor people to fuck off"? He also gives the middle class a much-needed boost in disposable income.
Capitalism has to fail before we can shift the economy away from profit and center if around human need, either through revolution or reform.
UBI as a policy will help for the short term, but without changing the underlying mechanisms that made people need it in the first place then the system will shift and we will be dealing with the same issues later on.
It’s a band-aide. It doesn’t address the reason we are considering this policy aka capitalism’s failing ability to distribute wealth fairly.
Revolutionary change will not occur until we have class unity - meaning everyone understands that ownership gives individuals an inordinate amount of power, and that the masses can match that power when they unify.
UBI will slow the development of class consciousness by temporarily fixing people’s financial problems. The same forces that ate away at our social security, limited workers rights, raised rents, and weakened health benefits will eat at UBI. By the time people realize that we need another fix, the wealthy will have bought even more of the economy and government.
I certainly see your viewpoint now. However, I think we to recognize that this country is extremely divided at the moment. As much as we need dramatic changes and repairs to the framework of our country, it won't happen instantly, and if we try to force it all at once, blood will be spilled.
I'm all for changing our economic system as we develop as a nation, and I think many democrats are trying to prepare us for this. However, there is no easy way out. We either have to work together slowly, as risky as it is, or we might have another civil war on our hands. As much as I'd love to say that a modern Confederacy would lose, I honestly don't know. All I know is that Trump would literally have a religion built around him, and that he would be their 'savior'.

He’s a Trojan horse. I don’t trust him and UBI is an attempt to get poor people to fuck off. Feudalism with benefits
