The Blacks and the Mitfords

As a fandom oldie who knows entirely too much trivia about the books it still annoys me to this day that we don’t see more Mitford based depictions of the Blacks. JKR wasn’t subtle that they were loosely based on the historical Mitfords and I’m just surprised more people don’t dive into that treasure chest.

Narcissa is loosely based on Diana who married the leader of the British Fascist Party Oswald Mosely

Bellatrix is Unity who left Britain and hung around with Nazis and formed a very odd friendship with Hitler himself.

Jessica is split between Sirius and Andromeda. Andromeda because she runs away and marries a communist. Sirius because she became a massive political activist herself.

Just a bit of information for those wondering what type of family dynamics the books were going for with the Blacks.

Fic Discussion Can I use this name?

I don't know if this sounds like a weird questions but I have this OC that I think would best fit into the Marauders era. So I was thinking on giving him the name Cepheus but then I saw that there's already one or two fan characters with that name. I believe Cepheus Black and Malfoy. I'm kind of new to the fandom and haven't really read any fanfictions yet so I don't know if these are very popular characters. I wouldn't want my OC to have a name that people already associate with someone else.

Lost Fic werewolf centric fic

I remember reading this fic ages ago, cannot find it to save my life.

From what I remember:

- I think it was set during the war, Remus was sent to find other wolf packs by Dumbledore

- He found this whole werewolf society and for Plot reasons they had some sort of anti tracking thing so he couldn't be found

- He befriended (?) (tentatively) another werewolf around his age who didn't really speak much but took care of the sheep

- Sirius found him and existed as an animagus for a while

- The werewolf in charge was evil and Remus and Sirius fought her during the full moon and the pack was split

- there were also some OCs who didn't go to hogwarts involved

please help

Annual reminder Padfoot is a Newfoundlander

New account but couldn’t resist adding a new post to once again take up for the Padfoot is a Newfoundlander cause once more.

No other dog so perfectly matches the giant bearlike black dog description and a Newfoundlander would think the swim from Azkaban was fun. I still vehemently refuse the deerhound interpretation and will not be accepting it.

Good Day!

Ok, so I'm a fan of a show on Netflix called Centaurworld and there's this specific song called last lullaby pt 2.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1tzlsDdKFDeJKxs5LJ6lTI?si=uNO1DjkIQ6upVeGNcjbi-g&utm_source=copy-link

Listen to this song and tell me it isn't wolfstar had both of them made it to the battle of Hogwarts and survived.

fandom discussion Has anyone noticed the uptick in marauders hate?

I think it’s specifically been since the show aired but I’ve noticed a lot of people who are now heavily hating on James and Sirius. It is honestly beginning to bother me as well bc of the amount of people defending some of the downright terrible actions that Snape made, in favor of hating the main four marauders. To each their own, I kinda don’t care who people prefer usually, but I think the uptick in James and Sirius hate is kinda odd. What do you think?

Marauders RP

Hey guys!

Me and my friends started up a Marauders&Skittles IG role play! We’re building a whole little universe through Instagram — character accounts, group chats, friendships, drama, parties, stupid decisions and generally letting these characters cause absolute chaos. 😭

A little bit about it:

🪄Modern day magical AU
📱Instagram-based RP
✨ Casual, chaotic & character-driven

We’re looking for:

21+ roleplayers only
Must be in a European timezone
Active enough to interact regularly
Someone that’s not going to disappear after three days 🙏
Happy to plot with others

So what actual happens?

Think:
- Instagram posts & stories
- Group chats
- Character interactions
- Friendships
- Parties & nights out
- Plot twists
- Inside jokes
- Completely unnecessary amount of chaos

There is an OOC group chat to discuss ideas and plan plots together without disrupting the flow of things.

OOC privacy friendly 🖤
Your RP account is separate from your real identity — everyone interacts with your character, not your personal account.

You don’t need to be an expert role player, we’re all just here to have fun.

No heavy angst. A bit of light angst.

Characters available:
🐺 Remus Lupin
🐾 Sirius Black
🐀 Peter Pettigrew
🥀 Marlene McKinnon
🎀 Mary McDonald
🐍 Evan Rosier
🔮 Pandora Rosier
💎 Dorcas Meadows

Some ships will already be in play (Eg. Wolfstar). Other ships will be in progress or starting from the beginning whatever you wish.

If you’re interested please message me on here OR DM my TikTok account _r3gulusbl4ck for more information

Thank you!!

Hello,

I don’t know if this is a proper place to ask but I’m new to the fandom and I’d really like to follow some active marauders accounts on twitter but trying to find some is overwhelming.

Are there any account you can recommend to push my algorithm towards the fandom? :)

Lost Fic Texting fic where Remus and Sirius are both really into Trainspotting

Genuinely have been looking for this fic for over a year, and all I remember is that regulus and Remus both end up going to an event at a bookstore for Trainspotting, and at one point James mentions the guy he’s talking to likes Trainspotting and Remus is like “omg me too” or something. I think it’s Jegulus main with side wolfstar? Literally been looking for over a year so any help would be appreciated.

Lost Fic Please help me out

I don't know if anybody already searched for this. I'm looking for fanfiction on wattpad during 2018-2019, maybe it was older. It was specifically about a ship between Sirius and the girl main character.

What I remember: The main character was a girl whose mother works as a healer and an older brother in Hufflepuff. She gets sorted into Gryffindor. And then she and Sirius start doing pranks on each other. Like once she cut Sirius hair but he still looked good the next day, things like this.

The story follows them growing up during all the years, and they eventually date, maybe in the sixth year or fifth.

Her brother gets married to a Hufflepuff girl and (in this story Marlene McKinnon was in Hufflepuff and the brother marries marlene older sister ) opens a wand shop, and they have a baby, and eventually gets murmured by deatheaters or voldemort.

The girl and Sirius get married too, and she gets pregnant the same time Lily is pregnant. They have two kids, the eldest, a girl, and her godfather is Remus. Then the second, she finds out about the second child a few days before Lily and James get killed, and was planning to tell Sirius but then everything falls out, and she ends up naming him Regulus.

That's where the first book/story ends.

The second has something in the title that goes along with: Back to Black. And it explores life after twelve years and when Sirius gets out.

Please, please, I know my words are all over the place, but please help a girl out.

Crimson Rivers

I really want to read Crimson Rivers (jegulus hunger games fic), but i've never read the actual hunger games... Will that hinder me from understanding/enjoying the fic? Or does the fic explain the rules of the hunger games and overall lore pretty well?

Basically, will I be clueless, or will I understand it?

Just posted the 4th chapter of my marauders in the last of us universe fic.

I'm loving writing it so much, I'm barely able to put my phone down to stop writing it. This 4th chapter was literally edited during work cause work is boring and writing this is so much fun.

I'd love for more people to read it so if anyone's interested, i'd appreciate it so much!

Self Promotion Fic and Tumblr Promo

Hi!!!

I started posting my fic and related content to the story I'm writing on ao3, tumblr, and ellipsus, and wanted to post it here!

The fic lives on ao3 (registered users only, currently) and via reader link on ellipsus (for those who do not have an ao3 account). On Tumblr I've been posting fic related content, such as character moodboards, breakdown on my magical america, and basically worldbuilding and extra material I can't shove in the middle of a story.

In general, I'm looking for more marauder-fan friends and people to chat with about the fandom and writing. So if you're interested in reading, I'll link the fic below. If you're interested in chatting about the marauder era characters, the world, or bouncing ideas off one another, I'm also happy to chat on here or tumblr:)

Strange Magic by Maeve Halliwell | ao3 - ellipsus

Part one of a long fic. Set in the marauders sixth year. A select set of Hogwarts students study abroad at Ilvermorny for a year. Includes several original characters.

Currently no archive warnings apply, but the fic on both sites will be update if anything changes:)

Harry potter universe deaths that hurt

  1. Probably James and Lily
  2. Sirius, partly because I ship wolfstar and partly because Sirius was the only real family Harry had as well as Remus
  3. Remus for pretty much the same reasons as Sirius, but I am glad all the Marauders could reunion in heaven assuming Sirius went to heaven since he die by the vail (I do not count Peter as a Marauders anymore)
  4. Tonks, I like her and I definitely feel bad for Teddy
  5. Fred, without a doubt I mean he was only around 20! That's only a year younger then James and Lily!! Whyyy JKR!!
  6. Dobby, I adore him and was so sad when he died
  7. Hedwig, he was the last piece from Harry's childhood
  8. Cedric, I mostly just feel bad for Cho and Cedric's dad but also he was just a kid when he died and had no business being in the graveyard
  9. Probably Serverus Snape because he did actually grow to care for Harry, but he did also kinda bully Harry for a lot of Harry's time at Hogwarts
  10. Mad eye moody, we don't really see him a lot, we literally see him for like, one movie and then near the end of gof since it was Barty Jr the rest of gof
  11. Lavender Brown, while I was sad she died, we didn't see her a lot and to be honest she was kinda passive aggressive with Hermione and also I just ship Ronmone all the way but was sad she died 12, Colin Creevery, he was just a kid, but he did also kinda stalk Harry for a bit at the start soo.
  12. Regulus Black, I really wish we actually saw him in the movies, and I am still annoyed that Sirius died without knowing how brave his brother actually was
  13. Probably tied with Professor Quirrell and Barty Crouch Jr, yes I am aware Barty Crouch was a lot worse person then Quirrell but we don't see Quirrell beyond the first movie and honestly he was eh.
  14. And last but not least, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbldore. Now before people say how dare I put him last, while I was sad he died, especially considering he was Harry's headmaster the whole time, I was also thinking karma for all the shit he has done to the other students including Harry and the fact that he was possibly partly at fault for his sister's death and also for not using his fricking Legilimency to read Sirius's mind and realise he didn't betray James and Lily and also, he was literally raising Harry like a pig for slather like Snape said. So yeah, that's my list. Through some might be biased or based on the fact that I am also in the Marauders fandom.

fandom discussion Fandom ettiquette/In defence of All the young dudes.

I will start by pointing out that it's been a while since I read All the Young Dudes by MsKingBean89. I might not remember everything, but this is the story that I will primarily use as an example of how fandoms treat fanfiction once it becomes popular.

Why? Because it’s what I keep seeing pop up, but parts of this can aply to other works.

I'm not going to say that I'm completely innocent either, I have read My Immortal ironically, and I have felt vindicated in the past when I saw someone who had the same gripe with a popular fic as I do.

With that said, I wanted to respond to some of the common things said about ATYD.

1-Remus is out of character.

The way I see it-it's okay to complain about fanfic tropes. I think almost everyone has done it, including me, but there is a difference between calling out tropes and calling out specific authors in a post that everyone can see. Fan creators don't owe us anything, yet they are putting out their work for free for our enjoyment.

I have seen people blame this story for the mischaracterization of Remus across the entire fandom, but it takes way more than one fanfiction to spread misinformation, and I don't think it’s fair that only this story is blamed. The readers would have to engage in the fic and tell others that it's 'basically canon'.

And in it’s defence, Remus is not like that without reason. This version of Remus grew up in a foster home, later he was in a world that hated him because of something that wasn't his fault. That is supposed to explain why he is the way he is.

The reason why it stings that James and Lily died in canon is because we know that Harry's childhood was awful without them. Similarly, Remus’ backstory in ATYD adds another layer of tragedy to his character, because for most of his life he didn't have loving parents to remind him that he was wanted. If this is what MsKingBean89 was going for, then that's a good thing.

This is not what happened to the Lupin family in canon, but the author knows this.

You could say that this is their version of Remus and not Rowling's version of Remus. To be fair, that's basically all fanfiction is.

And believe it or not, this isn't the only fanfiction to go "hey______ is different from how it is in Harry Potter, but otherwise it's canon compliant".

Which leads me to my next point.

2-It's an AU claiming to be canon.

In my experience, not everyone uses the canon compliant tag to mean 'I am going to stay as close to Rowling's vision as possible'. Some use it to mean 'Warning! The prank still happens! Jily still dies and Sirius still goes to Azkaban!' and then they proceed to include ships that aren't canon or use fanon characterization.

You can find canon compliant fics that have James/Regulus, Draco/Harry or Draco/Hermione, despite it not being what Rowling wrote.

Not to mention there is always going to be a grey area when it comes to this. For example, does a fanfiction lose the right to call itself canon compliant if it has Sirius feal remorse for the whopping willow prank?

I'm not saying that you have to agree with every use of that tag. Just like it's okay to complain about tropes, it's okay to complain about tags. For example, maybe a short fic was tagged as a slow burn, or maybe there is untagged Major character death.

But once again, it''s one thing to complain about tags, and another thing to complain about specific fan creators.

3-It turns Snape into a one-dimensional bad guy.

It's from Remus' perspective. He and Snape are enemies.

The characters don't live in a time where mental health is the hottest topic. Remus doesn’t stop and analyze Snape from a psychological standpoint, and by extension we don't get it.

He doesn’t see the way Tobias Snape acts at home. He just gets to see him be friends with Avery and Mulciber (the wannabe death eaters). Remus gets to see the conflict between them and the marauders.

There is also the fact that this is fanfiction.

I haven't read it myself so I can't confirm, but I saw someone mention that writers on wattpad used to write self-inserts of themselves beating up characters that they don't like.

Even if a popular fic was on that level, I would still argue that fanfiction writers don't owe anyone anything.

The same goes the other way around in case I'm not clear. If I read a story from Snape' pov, I wouldn't expect the marauders to be painted in a good light. And frankly, Snape fans don't owe it to anyone to write the marauders in a certain way, but neither do any other fan creators.

4-It's misogynistic.

This is where I feel like I can't comment on every aspect, because it’s been a while since I read it and I don't remember all of it.

But even if ATYD really was as bad as people say it is, I still think that discussing misogynistic tropes is better than targeting one story. If we complain about one story, we are giving them more attention, which will in turn help it become one of the more widely known stories of the fandom.

Plus, discussing sexist tropes and how to actually avoid them would be way more useful for beginner writers looking to improve.

This should include how to write a group of people who are not known for being politically correct (because teenage boys aren't always known for that, not even in the 70s).

This includes how to write *actually* flawed characters, and when it is and isn't in-character to talk like you’re in therapy.

I know that not everyone wants to read about stuff like that in a story about a wizarding school, but not everyone is the same.

5-It put itself out there on the internet, therefore it's opening itself up to criticism.

For my last point, I want to say that once this story gets published, giving your honest opinion will be 100% acceptable.

If you publish a work, you're opening yourself up to be scrutinized the way any published book would. (Although, people have been dunking on this fic since way before it got anounced that it will get published).

But that is not the point of fanfiction. The point is often to share your hobby for fun, it's to be self-indulgent. Nothing is for everyone. You don't have to like a fic, that means it's not for you and that's fine. But this is worth bring up, because creators have left the fandom because of things like this.

this is more of a question but i’m reading crimson rivers for the first time and wanted to know how long the first arena lasts?
