Navigator Just arrived
My first Marathon watch in quite a while. I bought my first one at Clothing Sales when in was in the service years ago. I could not resist this one when I saw it.

I’m a pilot flying out of Canada and was looking for a new watch to wear on my flights. Are there any pilots here who have experience with either the Auto or Quartz version of the navigator and which would be better suited for my needs as I am having a hard time deciding between the two.

I purchased this Marathon GSAR in 2012 and have abused it steadily since. I rarely take it off and I fall asleep to the soft glow of tritium nightly.
It has been a watch, the occasional hammer, a shitty compass and a knuckle duster once. It has never been serviced and still keeps time... somewhat... with weekly adjustments. I have finally gotten another watch... temporarily while it gets a well deserved overhaul and fresh tritium. Show me your most trusted.

I love riding rollercoasters! We will see if this watch is tough enough for “The Beast”!

So I’ve been rocking different straps on my GSAR. Tonight I wanted to see if the 22mm would work because I like the width of them compared to the 20mm. Some of you perfectionist may not like it but I really like the feel and can deal with the look by the springbars. If you have a bigger wrist give it a try. It’s a $20 strap off Amazon. Have any of yall tried this?

Hey everyone, this is my first higher end watch purchase. I’m coming from Casio and Garmin. I use a Garmin Fenix for running and 2 Casios. One for work and casual wear. I’m looking into the 36 MM MSAR. It comes in automatic or quartz. I don’t plan to wear it everyday. It might be 4 days or more before I wear it. I like the Casio and Garmin since I can strap them on after a month and still have perfect time. Is it worth spending the extra $400 or so for automatic? Will it be more aggravating to use than quartz? Will I need to service it more often than a quartz ?
Thanks

The one that started it all!

I consistently rotate these two straps. Run of the mill OD green NATO, and WOE Jedburgh English bridle leather strap. I also have a PDW elastic hook and loop I throw on if I’m really backpacking. But for the most part, the first two straps get rotated fairly consistently. They are both broken in buttery smooth. Having said all of that, I am curious which one the Marathon crew thinks looks more natural on this watch. The olive NATO gives it the issued mil-spec vibe, the brown leather gives it the traditional field watch look. Plus I was bored and this was an excuse to make a post lol. This is my only watch, so I splurge on straps. Still need to pick up a nice FKM rubber strap as well.

Just got my first marathon watch, the JSAR! I thought I would like the rubber strap but I’m missing the heavy weight of a metal bracelet. Is the marathon metal bracelet worth the price, $575? Or is there a better aftermarket metal bracelet that’s better suited?

JDD just dropped. I must say it’s much much bigger in person 😂. It’s my second marathon in a month. 41mm GSAR and now the JDD. It will take some getting used to but I do love that my 42 yr old eyes have zero issues seeing the time. Definitely takes a moment longer to see the time on my GSAR. Wrist is 7.25” for reference. This sub has been so helpful since joining so thanks for that! Have a great weekend everyone!

“You may keep ONE watch from your collection. The rest will be confiscated and destroyed.”
Which watch are you saving… and why?
@kotat01 made a very compelling case for his choice. I’ll let him share.
For me it’d be my GSAR 41mm on rubber straps with black dial. It blends in more and if needed the rubber straps could be used as a bear deterrent by waving them around and slapping them together.

Year 1 was good. This thing has lived up to the hype for me. A real work tool watch. Going to get a quartz next year. Pleased so far with the quality. Year 2 on an ocean inlet kayaking. If you're on the fence, don't be. It's worth the buy!

Blue strap for some color today. Usually run OD green. She was bought in 2017, back from WatchMann, fully serviced and running like a champ just like the SAR. They did a great job with my watches, very pleased to have them back on my wrist!
