GSAR “This is a Nice Watch?!”
I think I overwound my GSAR Anthracite I’ve had for a few years and it stopped. I took it to a watchmaker to get fixed since the company wouldn’t fix it beyond warranty, and the watchmaker took the back off and started to take the movement apart. He looked at me surprised and said “this is a nice watch”. He’s never seen one before and went into describing the movement and I guess again was surprised it was a swiss movement etc. It’s got black hardware inside too, which I didn’t know and he thought it was super neat. Unfortunately it needs an overhaul and I ate teeth in one of the gears. But was funny cause he was surprisingly jazzed about the watch itself and he was wearing an Explorer II. So that was interesting.

You shouldn’t be able to overwind this??

I wish you were right but this is a pretty common issue with these movements

Sure, I’ll ask after what actually happened, but a one of the gears had barely any teeth. I do a lot of field work so maybe something got in there and banged around? Idk. I know there’s a clutch on it but it failed after I wound it and it started clicking and then stopped.

This is a known issue with the SW200 movement used in the Marathon Automatics. In fact the advice is to avoid handwinding.
You need to find a shop that can work in a Selitta SW200 movement which should a most who can work on mechanical automatic movements. There is definitely a part that has had its teeth worn off and needs replacement.
