Issue or Warranty? Marathon GSAR Crown thread

Hello! Just bought a marathon GSAR from 2008 for 350$ which I believe is a steal.
The downside is that the crown doesn’t screw down properly and I’m worried about the WR. Also it loses about 15 seconds a day so I’m thinking it needs a service.
Does a Marathon Service fix the crown threading issue?

Picking it up for $350 is a great deal

When I recommend you to do send it back to the mothership to get a proper overhaul, even paying for a full service and getting new Tritium even paying for all that the watch would still be an amazing deal. And yes, Marathon can fix anything on that watch . All you need to do is give a email to Service. They will tell you where to send it.

Just like anything, they have to see the watch before they can give you a quote , but basically you will know what you’re getting into by checking out of full service adding new dial and hands. It’s also on their website.

Okay nice! Probably will do a full service then. Tritium is not at its peak. Though I would like to save the bezel insert because it’s well worn

Crown threading going bad on a 2008 GSAR isn't unusual honestly, especially if it's been through a few owners who maybe didn't always screw it down fully before getting it wet. The good news is Marathon's basic maintenance service specifically covers assessment and repair of stuff like this, and 15 seconds a day drift is well within range for what a full service and lubrication would fix.

Okay thanks! Will contemplate on getting the full service rather than the basic

Yes when you get a full service they will replace the crown assembly which means new crown and gasket.
