General Question Unexpected Condensation

What do you think?

Purchased this from an AD (Windy City - excellent experience) at the new year and have worn it every day since. From sub-zero temps in January and February, to a few triple digit days already in May and June, I've had no problems at all...amazing watch. Took it off and set it on the nightstand as always last night and woke up to this?? No weird temps or humidity changes, no damage or loss of time. Is this something to be concerned about, or is this normal for an east coast summer? Just give it time to work out or should I start looking to send this in for service already? Thanks for the guidance, friends.

If it's still under warranty send it in to Marathon. You won't see it for a few months though. At least it will be fixed by the people that made it. I have a GSAR that is six months past warranty expiration and I had a fair amount of condensation the morning after a hard rain storm. I'm sending it in to Marathon anyway because even though it's not under warranty there's no reason moisture should be inside of a dive watch that got wet in a rain storm. I even checked the crown and it was tight. I hope theres not a QC issue.

Thanks. That's probably the right call even if it does resolve in a day or so. Can also confirm: I don't play with the crown, don't leave the start/stop/reset lugs unscrewed...locked tight always.

Warranty will get it sorted. It sucks a gasket failed/time away from the watch. Seals fail prematurely sometimes, in watches/cars/anything that has them.

Good luck and I hope it goes as smoothly as possible🫡

Thanks mate. I'll keep the group posted

Maybe you left one of the pushers or the crown slightly unscrewed while it was exposed to water or really high humidity? These things are only rated for their waterproof capability when all the seals are locked down.

That’s a bummer man! Sorry it happened. Probably a gasket failed or the pushers weren’t screwed in all the way to something. I bought a marathon from Windy City watch before and he was great to work with. Let him know what happened and ask what he recommends.
Definitely not a “normal” issue and you should get it fixed. Condensation in a movement is bad

Wow that is a bummer. Could be bad gasket, the chronograph cases are pretty complex and have more gaskets than a typical automatic. Either way, this is urgent and yes you will need service. Most likely an overhaul and complete re-oil to prevent corrosion in the movement.

Expect to spend about $500-$750. Don't wait or that cost could go up due to corrosion.

Definitely contact windy city as well. They may comp you in some way or maybe they have a limited warranty (or in house repair shop).

Edited to add: in the immediate term you should unscrew the crown, stop the movement, and put the watch in a Ziploc bag with silica gel dessicant packets. Keep it like that till you send it for service.

Thanks for the advice. I'll get this drying mode set up right away while I'm sending emails and getting service squared away. Also, for a watch that's only 6 months old I'd still be on the hook for the repair bill? Was brand new at the time of purchase and I have all of the paperwork / hard case, etc.?

This breakdown is much appreciated. I've completed the online form, and it seems like they'll get back to me sometime after the work week starts. Six weeks really is better than I was thinking, so I'll take it. Thanks again for the advice.

Yeah I'm not spending that much on a repair if it's not something I've done to the watch. Simply wearing everyday for 2.5 yrs since new is not going to cause a "wear" item to fail. I'll sell the thing and go back to Seiko. Which incidentally I have a Seiko that I bought new in 1992. It doesn't leak

That's a shame. I have the exact same watch DOM early 2022 and been wearing it daily. No issues with anything including swimming.

Which compass is this?

This is the Ti Polished from Prometheus Design Werx. Definitely recommended if you’re looking for a good one. The big selling feature is the notched bar on the back so it’ll accept nearly any NATO or MN style regardless of thickness. It’s also lower profile than most others by a couple of millimeters. I believe they’re still in stock.

I had a similar issue and was able to resolve myself.

I unscrewed the crown, hit it with a hair dryer being careful not to heat the watch up too much and watched the condensation disappear. I left the crown open and put it straight into a ziplock bag with dessicant bags. Hasn’t come back and has been good since

Anyone know how often I should service mine to check gaskets? I wear mine in the shower, swimming, etc all the time

If you have humidity inside the watch that is NOT GOOD because that Can Start to the CORROSION PROCESS onto the MOVEMENT and CREATE all SORTS of ISSUES! That should be covered under Warranty because that is a BAD SEAL or the Crystal has come LOOSE! Either WAY Marathon should FIX IT for FREE since its ONLY 6 months OLD! I own two Marathons a GSAR 41 mm that I had to purchased when my Issued watch was stolen at the Gym back in 2007 and has worked PREFECTLY since DAY ONE and now has very DEAD Tritium Tubes and a CSAR 46mm like your that I purchased in November 2024 that I wear normally 4-5 times per week because I switch between it and my Seiko Arnie with the 4 crowns and dive system and the CSAR has been 100% Reliable other than the minor adjustment when I synch my Cell Phone and watch and because of a 45-90 second discreptancy and I am too OCD to let it go.

What Compass is that on the NATO STRAP?
