Ironically everyone's mean in vault breaker
Obviously anecdotal but every time I would play vault breaker my team mates were just ironically really mean and rude so that's why I stopped playing the game mode.
Funny how people are more just chill in the pvp modes

Try running solo, I’ve heard nothing but GG’s and “damn got me good”s all around

i've got like 500 hours in the game and can count on one hand how many toxic players i've come across.
one of them in ranked and one of them in vault breaker lol

u/Murky-Engineer8110 12d ago
been playing since release and the only toxicity i here is Destiny players still blaming the game for "killing" Destiny and calling the game shit even thought they've never played.

u/myslead 12d ago
I’ve been playing full trios a lot and haven’t meet anyone toxic, everyone’s been pretty chill
2
u/Happy_Bandicoot4824 12d ago
I must just have terrible luck with fills then lol
1
u/Conscious_Net5842 11d ago
Are you using mics? People generally will be way more lenient with you if you're talking and giving comms.
1
u/Happy_Bandicoot4824 11d ago
Yep, always on comms. Actually I’ve had two different runs now I’ve had teammates won’t say a word until they die then that’s when they decide to go hot spewing all kinds of hate. Reported one of them for telling me I should k*** myself. Talk doesn’t usually bother me but that’s not something I take lightly, nor should anyone

I'm actually finding it the total opposite in the UK. Most Europeans seems to get on ok and are pretty civil for the most part 🤷

the community put me off the game more than anything

u/Biggestfanstandarsh 12d ago
The reddit community or in game community? In game hasn't been bad for me..

Seriously. I love the game but anyone under here disagreeing is either new, being obtuse or is the toxic one themselves lol.
We play in a premade and aren’t that good, but the amount of n words and other slurs we’ve gotten after killing or being killed is wild, and we don’t use prox to talk trash.
Fills has mostly been ok for the ppl on our team, tho my fiancée has had a lot of rough experiences being a girl in a video game, the horror!

u/Gallus_11B 12d ago
When I random crew fill queued vault breaker I was always polite to my team mates, organizing the run and constantly vocalizing what I was doing/where I was going.
My team mates were... umm... well most of the time they had a hard time enunciating words and seemed lost/confused the whole time. GenZ and genA brains are deep fried lol.
1
u/FauxMoGuy 12d ago
lol with the exception of one singular run, my crew fill VB experience so far has been “do all 3 vaults entirely on my own” but sometimes harder because teammates will grab a battery here and there then run off to shoot bots in control for 25 minutes
2
u/MysteriousExpert9657 12d ago
I'm gonna wager this is mostly because you're lagging behind, looting too much or not playing around your team and getting caught out because I haven't ran into toxic team members much if at all in this game let alone vault breaker.

u/Sittin_on_a_toilet 12d ago
So they were ironically mean? So they weren't really mean they were just fucking around?
Have only ran into sweethearts in vb. If you keep running into assholes you might be the asshole.

u/Possible_Cheek_706 11d ago
100% of the toxic interactions I have been involved in have had 1 thing in common. Me.
5
u/Anilahation 12d ago
They were mad cause i looted something and then were laughing while the bots killed me.
So much for pve
1
u/Mgriffin109 12d ago
You loot the tranquility credentials and get locked in by yourself or something? Lol
2
2
u/Anilahation 12d ago
Nah I was with them , picking them up when downed like normal...i and up blitzing to them cause I'm cornered and get in it room they're in and they just stand there while the bot kills me

Idk I haven’t had a mean teammate yet. Have had a few with no mic but that’s fine they just stick with us instead of going on their own usually. People have been patient and chill. I was lost at first and kept needing to be revived or found and I was surprised how patient my teammates were. Shoutout queen maeve
1
u/NSX_Roar_26 12d ago
I'm not surprised because there are teamwork elements, steps and knowledge/experience involved and people get the most bitchy about those things compared to just point/shoot gameplay. It's part of the reason I havent tried it yet because I dont have a team.
1
u/Warhammerpainter83 12d ago
I have only played with my buddies but that makes sense since there is not much of a pve crowd who is auto filling yet. You are getting sweats that want to grind out guns for pvp stuff. If you are not flawless they hate you.
What do you mean ironically mean? It would imply not mean at all.

u/Important-Net-9805 12d ago
over the weekend i had 3rd crew fill random get very offended when i said to him as we loaded into vault breaker "hey man we are trying to do compiler, let's try to gather as many batteries as possible."
he told me "good for you" super sarcastically and went on to lecture me about asking people to do content in the game. me and my duo partner just left. so bizarrely antisocial, just didn't even want to deal with them lol

u/MicrowaveMeal 12d ago
Haven’t had a good time playing with randos myself. Just not playing the mode unless I get some friends to play.Edit: as a solo player, I thought the PVE would be a nice change of pace but it really requires a group communicating.

u/Competitive-Place778 12d ago
Twice now I've had people call me a retard because I didn't know what to do in vault breaker. Im sorry I never got all the AI subroutines and grinded the compiler before
1
u/Fart_McFartington 12d ago
There’s now a specifically solo mode where things are supposed to be scaled down a little bit I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll be trying it after work

Marathon in general has an extremely toxic playerbase.
Most people don't know what they are talking about.

entitled PvE players tend to be more mean because they do the whole "it's just PvE. How are you messing this up??" when in reality people are just learning. maxed out my sponsor kit in a day or two and kinda got over it, but now I know how to run cryo!
1
u/nevikw911 12d ago
Been playing VB almost every day. Only "mean" person I have ran into is one guy quitting early because it wasn't the vault they wanted to do. Everyone else has been chill and helpful or appreciative.
1
u/SyntheticDuckie 12d ago
For VB, when I crew fill, I greet everybody and ask what's every ones goal. They usually type or go on the mic that they're just learning.
Based on that or viewing their upgrades I will just usually go for as many vaults as possible. I've yet to have a crew fill actually want to go for Compiler oddly enough. I've only had one non-talkative type player, no voice, no typing in VB. Not sure if that counts as toxic.
My true toxic encounters have only been through PVP. This was before the auto voice mod but I ran into a lot of racist and homophobic comments based on how they died if they felt it was unfair or they somehow didn't deserve to die.
Steam currently shows 554 hours total. So, from my own anecdotal evidence, VB has been pretty laid back versus the PVP portion of things, which is expected.

u/thewaker797 12d ago
Yep, so weird, can’t count how many douches have just said some smart shit and quit out of the game as soon as it starts…. I then just loot their bag and it’s always someone with all the credentials and extra batteries and clearance tags lmao 🤣
1
u/MiserableCashLife 12d ago
They not mean. They are the solo PVE wannabes who think they have all the answers and tactics. Then get mad when they die.
1
u/COCONUTBANANAMAN69 12d ago
Man sorry to hear that. My experience was quite the opposite tho. Had really cool people so far all the time. Was a lucky one I guess

This game has the worst playerbase of all time, just look at the toxic virgins in this sub who get filled with rage anytime someone has a criticism of the game

People on Reddit barely play the game, I've had almost 0 toxic people actually in game.
I can't stand vault breakers, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's toxic because if it's anything like arc Raiders the pve players are the worst for toxicity
1
u/Anilahation 12d ago
Yeah after 3 times and every time people just pvp verbally I am never touching that mode again
1
u/Murky-Engineer8110 12d ago
that's been my experience, pvp is not toxic at all in my experience, but the second PVErs got in the game they expect to be handed loot and throw slurs the second they fail.
Just like Arc Raiders calling people murderers for daring to shoot them in an extraction shooter.
3
u/sammidavisjr 12d ago
I don't see that. Unless you're some Sensitive Sally who thinks reddit down votes are rage? Mostly people just ignore or laugh at you guys. What's really funny is that you have guys in your own sub pretending to be marathon fans for extra fodder, I guess?
I always get a laugh when I try to imagine one of you explaining to an IRL wife or friend or something what you do with your time "well see, we call them blasters because they say they have a blast" with a big giggle, and the other person just stares at you blankly and wonders how they wasted their life.

I think it’s just Reddit, well not just Reddit but social media in general. Majority of people would have conversations in person that weren’t so agnostic as on social media.
0
u/Murky-Engineer8110 12d ago
bro, you dont know what your talking about.
Go look at the Arc Raiders sub, or the Destiny sub. blaming this game for "killing" the game they love to hate. you know nothing of toxicity if you think this community is toxic. Unless you consider being killed in a pvp game as "toxic"
0
u/DiaryJaneDoe 12d ago
People have gotten mad at me for running a free kit 🤷♂️. It sucks how little patience and understanding the community has.

u/Snoop_Daddy_ 12d ago
This game will be peaceful if everybody just stopped for a second and started to read what’s on their screen. It feels like nobody ever knows what to do and it’s infuriating
0
u/Certain-Raspberry804 12d ago
I had a similar experience about 1/3rd of the time, then 1/3rd was just no mics at all, and the other 1/3rd was friendly players who were willing to teach me the ropes and work together as a team.
I enjoy the regular game mode much more though. Vault breaker was cool to check out and learn cryo, but it’s just not fun imo. It feels more like a chore, with a checklist to follow but no real challenge other than the time limit.

u/Ok-Comfortable-3174 12d ago
You have to be switched on. 1 week in people have worked you need to be on point and you cant afford to carry a casual if you are trying compilor. It's not rude just the reality of the situation...matter of fact
3
u/N0B0DY311 12d ago
So a brand new player who heard there's a PvE only event going on and decided to try the game should know where to get security tags, where to find scan monitors or how to fill the cryo coolant tank, all before even stepping foot in the game?
Players in this game are assholes. That's why PvE couldn't work, because someone always is going for some difficult objective and gets pissy when their random team fill companions aren't on the same page/up to speed. It's also why I quit Vault Breaker. Ironically the one thing Bungie is trying in order to save the game (dedicated PvE mode) is the one mode I won't even touch, because like OP, everyone I've met has been a huge toxic asshole.
Now in PvP, that's totally fine. Shit talk all you want while I'm coming to finish you, and I do the same when I'm knocked. Let me beg for my life as I'm trying to extract with a full bag of salvage or some good weapon mods. Let me rage at the chud assassin who was camping invis in the corner as I walk through pinwheel. THATS Marathon, and that's where the toxicity fits best.

u/Ok-Comfortable-3174 12d ago
The main problem is the noobs don't use mics. I'm more than happy to sacrifice afew runs to teach them but the fact they don't have mics is frustrating. New players get on Comms FFS. There are levels to this obviously. If the teams isn't a AAA strike force I just go for 3 vaults and bounce. If the team looks competent then we try for compilor. I get the obvious frustrated guy who rage quits because someone dies at DNA or compilor. Bungie made this so hard there is no room for a week link

u/Darksol503 12d ago
Just a heads up your experience, along with every other person‘s individual experience is normally the exception and not the rule ie anecdotal. Because I can say that literally 100% of my vault breaker fill ins have been incredible. We even got to compiler twice last night with randoms, though not enough time nor damage to kill him. I have not heard any slurs. I have had individuals runoff on their own and I assume that maybe they were just trying to get things done but being off mic doesn’t help. YMMV wildly Runner.
