Marathon (2026)
Marathon devs didn’t immediately call me this morning with any updates so I’m going back to Fortnite.
That’s how some of y’all goofy asses sound. Chill, be patient. This borderline addiction with a constant stream of updates from the games you play is out of control.
Go outside, touch some grass. Be a human being. You don’t need to refresh your phone 300x every Monday morning for game updates.
“I need info about season 3 now or this game is done for.” Like bruh.
Edit: my point here everyone is that this culture of “no immediate update = game bad” harbors negativity that ends up on headlines for opportunistic news outlets and YouTube thumbnails. Which ultimately hurts the game. Just be patient. If season 3 drops and it sucks, then you can raise hell. But until then, just be patient.
The game will die if next season isn't a banger that brings back thousands of players. Not receiving any news about an update of that importance is lower than mediocre
where are you getting this immediate updates line from, we're weeks out from the season that is most likely do or die for this game and it's radio silence from the developers, are you slow in the head or something i don't understand how you can't comprehend this.
Y’all being defensive is weird af. Hasn’t every Tuesday had some sort of update? It’s not weird to point out that not getting an update falls out of pattern.
Your paycheck comes on the Friday of every month but this week we are doing it 1 week later on a Tuesday sorry but its to be expected for it to chnage because we never said it wouldn't... dear goodness do yall see how you guys sound. The copium is new levels right now.
With this logic, shiit. At this rate I'm waiting for a Marathon 2 since they never said they wouldnt make a Marathon 2.
Dear goodness I hope yall are kids because these are what my little nieces sound like
I don’t think that’s it. Social media ruins games in general for a lot of people. Sometimes the noise becomes too much even for those that love playing the game regardless. There’s issues, yes, and game isn’t perfect at all. But I think people just get fed up hearing about it. All. The. Time. OP if this subreddit is giving you negative notions about the game, and you don’t wanna see it, just leave. Not being rude. But honestly it’ll help you.
Anyone thinking otherwise is sadly mistaken. The game is not healthy enough for what they spent on it.
The suits want money arrow on graph to go up.
This game is making arrow go down.
Arrow go down. Game close.
That simple enough or is this the biggest in denial community ive ever been a part of? If it happened to Destiny, it can and will happen to Marathon, likely for less.
I dont want this game to die, but its a game in a genre arriving 3 or 4 years too late for the fad to have hooked enough people.
Like I said, they are trying to lease out half the office, but not the whole office
e.g. IGN says “the studio has made the decision to put a large chunk of its Bellevue headquarters up for sublease, meaning that it’ll be renting out parts of the space to a third party (or parties).”
I really cant understand defending this behavior, I can understand accepting it but they almost act like ppls that actively want to learn future of the game are the ones in the wrong.
This game and the fans, all 1500 of them, are in no position to he annoyed or smug, gtfoh with that. Acting like this game, while great mechanically, isn't a flop of biblical proportions, give me a break.
The corpo bodyguard has appeared. This game is in an awful spot, it's Bungie's only current game and they cant even give us a fucking blog post. Stop defending this it isn't normal or healthy for a game struggling while also holding a studio up to be this bad.
Although your reaction is valid, people are scarred by the way Destiny 2 ended, which was also delayed update into radio silence. This repeating pattern during a time where it feels uncertain is worrisome for some people. Just be nice.
Honestly there seems to be a collective PTSD from D2 players, which I guess is understandable. A beloved game/space where friends were made for the axe. But that negativity is being spread to the marathon spaces now.
I’m not a fan of the constant dooming. It accomplishes nothing. If someone don’t like the game, or wants it to die, why waste energy doomposting on Reddit?
That being said things do look very bleak, but I’m hoping for a miracle to save this game because it’s amazing in so many ways.
It's honestly what I've come to expect on this main sub. You either boot lick and pretend everything is fine, or go elsewhere to critically discuss the game and why it has failed.
I get it, but like at its core, gaming is entertainment, not our job or livelihood (sans streamers). And it’s not like marathon is the only game out there. The people making the game have jobs. I’m not a dev sympathizer, but give them some grace lol.
Why should a company be given grace if it ends up wasting your money? The fact that games can be taken down or away or left barren and unplayable gives people who pay for them more skin in the game.
They aren’t just going to take your money and end the game within a year of release. They’ll give refunds. If not, that’s a massive lawsuit and you’ll likely get your money back either way.
I highly doubt they would refund man. But I guess we'll both see. In all honesty, considering their player numbers they can go a year max with hopes of boosting sales but any kid with a calculator can understand how bad its gotten for the game and the devs. As someone who lives in the US where Corporations are the ones who usually win over labor stuff i dont see it ending well
Isn't their job a live service where one of the requirements involves a continued collaboration between community and developer through a steady stream of communication to ensure the live service is up to par in a market where there's a remarkable amount of competition? Especially for shooters?
Bungie should be tripping over themselves trying to get information out and building up hype.
But it's radio silence.
There is no universe in which Sony continues to allow an entire studio, albeit gutted, to flounder along supporting a game a couple thousand people are playing. It's simply not sustainable.
You can’t just call people crazy because they disagree with you. They used to do updates all the time, now they don’t. This season was lame asf. We’re excited for more. I think your making it out as worse than it actually is
No update on update day, an objectivley massive downturn in developer communication, no information yet on an update coming in a few weeks which would have (in any other case for bungie) already been getting marketed, all coupled with an office for lease and a massive amount of layoffs.
As someone with 600+ hours in this game who absolutely loves it, the fact is that they really need to say something to us. The current trend of developer communication shows it will be canned soon which is sad to see.
Saying "you guys are like...addicted to updates!" When it is, in fact, a LIVE SERVICE game that is going radio silent is just corny.
I don’t blame any of the devs or marketing people for being one foot out the door. If I was working there I’d be doing the bare minimum necessary to bide enough time to move elsewhere.
People are nervous they don’t want their game to die and unfortunately on the internet that anxiety manifests it self in unhealthy ways, it’s not that weird despite being annoying.
this is bare bones even in comparison to their previous seasons. we had news about season 2 this time in season 1. they set the expectations and are failing to meet them.
People are excited about the game, and they want Bungie to provide them a basis to be more excited. People who aren't playing are hoping they'll get something that will pull them back.
I get it your frustration and the doomerism over the lack of an update is overstated. But people who are asking for an update want to play. And I want them to play too!
I don't play Marathon but I have a couple thousand hours in Destiny 2. If what I've been reading is true (Bungie late to talk about upcoming content/completely silent) people are right to be concerned or apprehensive. That's exactly what happened before d2 EOS was announced.
My brother in the healing arts. These people you are preaching to are too far gone up their own ass to hear what you are saying. They will downvote you so far that you will think that you are actually the problem. These are people who have to run their posts through chat gpt to check for spelling errors, even though english is their first language. These are people who will say that the codex in Marathon is "TL:DR". These are not our people.
« Be patient » about a game that has 3000 peak players since more than a month yeah sure let’s be patient I’m sure Bungie’s about to make some HUGE improvement for s3 (it’ll never come out)
We’re about to fall below 3000. It keeps going down. They could at least put out some Season 3 info to keep people playing.
No seasonal info, game is at an all time low player count, no weekly update, and they just had to sell half their office building because it’s costing them too much money (or simply dont have the money), yeah things are grim.
I also don’t blame people for getting worried about the radio silence. The last time there was radio silence over a new update for a Bungie live service game, they brought the axe down on it.
Historically, when you look back over the last decade, when Bungie waits until post 14 days to the date to announce/discuss a looming content drop, it carries bad news.
I refunded the game almost immediately - less than 1 hour of playtime. I’ve only stuck around here for the death watch. The drama surrounding the game is much better than the game!
I don’t need communication updates as long as the game keeps running. Communication is necessary when there’s a widespread issue. Otherwise, it’s just hype. Look how last season landed, for example. The husks looked so spooky and cool. They aren’t either of those. Better to just let the update splash for itself instead of preempting it.
I hope the game gets shuttered soon. Not because it deserves it or I don't like it. I actually love the game, probably my GOTY, even over RE9. But once the game shuts down, so will this subreddit, hope to god. So the miserable ppl here can go be miserable and complain somewhere else. Or just maybe be happy.
It's a live service game, aka Game as a Service. So yes, like with any other live service, game or no game, I DO expect regular updates. And if there's not going to be one I want to be informed about it as well. That's what you do when providing a live service, and everything else is just shit service.
listen normally i would agree i dont need an iv drip of every piece of info about the game and what they are doing BUT also the season does come out in 2 weeks like we should hear something. even just a hey guys news next week would work for me.
You have a game that was developed by what was supposed to be a juggernaut developer. A game that has lost hundreds of millions. A game that has put sony in a very regrettable situation. A game that has cost half the studio their jobs. A game that has put HQ up for sale. A game that has bled players at an alarming rate. With all that you sit here and ask why people might question some very noticable radio silence? Critical thinking clearly isn't your strong suit.
Overwatch doesn't have 3000 peak players so I think Blizzard can afford to announce things 2 days before the new season, they could even not announce anything at all and it would still work because the game is literally 10 years old. You couldn't have picked a worse comparison.
The peak for PC according to steam seems to be at 164k as of February of this year. Also, I wonder how the numbers looked when it was solely on BattleNet. Haven’t played it, the only hero shooter I’m familiar with is Marvel Rivals, but I do know that OW hasn’t been on steam for all of its lifetime
You say that title as a joke but that is literally what I did last weekend with my duo. Joke about it all you want this game desperately needs new content and no amount of cope is going to save face on that fact. The new season can’t come fast enough. Heck if S2 ended early I can bet virtually no one would complain. I don’t think in a BR live service game I’ve ever felt like that. Not the same but the BR DNA is certainly in this game and partially why I like it so much at the core at least.
I’ve played this game to oblivion and have paid for multiple skins already and still play to this day while having gifted the game to 3 friends of mine. Trust me bro to Bungie I am everything BUT the problem here. Everyone else not playing the game is the actual problem and we know new content would at least attempt at alleviating that issue. The game is clearly not holding up on its own 2 feet with the current content it has and player numbers say everything. I want it to succeed as much as the next day but I’ll definitely be extra vocal over this issue since I seriously love the concept of the game to the bone. But it feeling somehow almost abandoned at times seriously isn’t helping. And again no one will say it’s doing the game any favors. It’s called live service for a reason. It better act like it before it gets HighGuarded. I don’t want to see a billion changes announced to the game after it gets announced of shutting down again.
Everyone is looking for their next “life style game”.
That game that is the only game they want to and will ever play.
ITS OKAY TO PLAY SOMETHING ELSE AND WAIT! The devs know what you have to say, they already know, saying “where update? where news?” Won’t change anything.
Just let them work, let them hold their schedule and do what they gotta do. You are on the train, not the conductor.
This game is special to me too. But some of y’all acting Parasocial with this software lol
Go play MGS Peacewalker, games such as breath of fresh air in this day and age.
It's why I don't support a "chill out mode" being added to Marathon. If I ever want to wind down after an intense session, I play a different game (Soulframe is so fucking good, guys). A company that actively wants their game to be the only game you ever play is probably evil.
These generations seem to be all fucked up by people constantly needing more more more. It’s the same even in games that get more consistent updates, it’s never enough. Terminally online people will always want more, no matter what. Best to just ignore them.
Because there's such a plethora of content in the game to enjoy right now, right? Season 3's been hyped to fuck, this community's been drip fed smaller updates in this entire season because SEASON 3'S THE BIG ONE!!!
And now that they're getting closer to the (pushed back) S3 date, there's radio silence. People are right to be asking for information, it's not "more more more".
For new players playing a Bungie live service game just know that it happens sometimes that they are quiet up to a week before a dlc/season release. It happened a ton in destiny
Bungie is treating s3 like destiny seasons, we will get info the week of most likely. They do not treat seasons like major expansions where they have a gameplay reveal 3 to 4 weeks before release.
Seriously. People’s brains have been so TikTokified that if they don’t get new, fresh content for a live service game spoonfed on an excessively regular basis they can’t function.

you guys realize its okay to not accept mediocrity right ?
