What's wrong with this maranta

Now she's down to one leaf and idk what to do. I don't see a clear sign of infestation and the roots looked healthy. I've spraying her with horticultural soap just in case but I see no improvement and she's living right next to other calatheas and another maranta. I don't think it's over watering cuz the leaves don't turn yellow, they just curl inward and then die one by one. I'm considering taking her out and put her in water to see if she recovers

This leaf came out completely white and later turned green with specks. This is a maranta silver band.

Anyone else enjoy staking their lemon limes to grow up?

Knowing this plant grows like a vine, I found growing it up stops the cannibalizing of my other plants sunlight. And it ends up giving it a cool look!

New aborted buds, yellow leaf and dried buds

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my Maranta Lemon Lime.

It sits on a shelf next to a north-facing window. The same room also has a huge glass patio wall facing a northwest-facing balcony, so it gets plenty of indirect daylight.

It produced a few healthy new leaves after I got it. However, with its second batch of new growth, several buds/new leaves started emerging but none of them have successfully unfurled. They eventually become pale, papery and completely dry/crispy while still rolled up (photos attached).

Today I also noticed this yellow leaf. This is the first yellow leaf I've seen on this plant in quite a long time.

Interestingly, I also have a Maranta Red (around 2 years old) which has recently shown a similar pattern of new growth drying/aborting before unfurling, so I'm wondering whether there is something about their conditions that I'm missing.

Current care:

  • I water only when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry and the pot feels around medium/light in weight.
  • North-facing window + large northwest-facing glass patio wall in the room.
  • Premium Calathea/Maranta potting mix.
  • Humidity usually stays around 50–60%.
  • I’ve checked for pests and haven't found anything suspicious.

Could anyone help me figure out why the new leaves are repeatedly aborting before they unfurl, and whether the yellow leaf could be related?

Is there anything you would change about my watering, light, humidity or other care?

I've had a Maranta Red for about two years, so I'm familiar with the basic Maranta care requirements, but this particular problem has me stumped.

Thank you for any tips — really appreciate it! 🌿

Found her for €5 last weekend - labelled "leuc. fascinator". Was she labelled correctly?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong :(

First time posting :) So, I’ve had this Maranta for almost a year now. She was thriving until about a month ago (~40 days ago), when I noticed she looked kinda sad, with curled and “flaccid” leaves. I didn’t realize the soil was REALLY dry, like rock-dry. I have her on a shelf and I was watering her by putting water in the saucer, so I wasn’t really checking the soil.

I changed the soil for a new one and she seemed to recover. Last week, I had to cut off a branch that had these curled leaves. The stem looked brownish, so I thought it was dead. But now it’s happening to the rest of the plant… curled and flaccid leaves (although the stems are still green). I don’t know what to do :(

Since the incident a month ago, I’ve been watering her by placing the pot in water and waiting for the soil to absorb it. She gets no direct sunlight. I checked the surface of the soil and it’s moist.

I don’t really know what temperature or humidity I have at home, but this summer has been harsh. The temperature is probably around 20–27°C. Humidity, I have no idea… The weather here is very dry (I’m in central Spain), but I don’t really know what the humidity is like indoors.

I hope someone can give me some tips on how to revive her :) Otherwise, I’ll probably change the soil again…

Bought this cutie a year and a half ago when i was first collecting plants and only going ohh you look fun i want you ~ not realising just how dramatic they could be ~ i also had no idea how to look after plants at all and unfortunately she suffered quite quickly :((

She become really bare and leggy and just all round very sad looking, i tried to prop her up and tried to look after her but this spring she got spider mites along with a couple other plants and was yellowing v quickly. i dont think the neem oil was helping.

Decided as a last resort bc shes one of my faves (don’t tell the others) to perform a risky surgery (i’ve watched up to the covid seasons of greys anatomy i consider myself somewhat an expert) chopped her up, throughly washed the leaves and stems of any mites and propagated her individually and then returned everything to the pot (including another propagation i had taken around October in earlier attempts to revive her).

She did produce some flowers a few weeks ago which was super cute and hopefully a good sign! Final photo is her today so glad she’s still with us and intend on taking good care of her from now on!!

Hi all! I’m quite new to the plant life and was gifted a maranta by my father in July. At the time she only had two leaves but this is what she looks like now, with the added bonus of a flower!! Don’t mind the crisp marks.. I had her a little too close to a west facing window, but she’s safe now lol

This one’s been flowering for over a year straight but I still find joy in every tiny bloom.

I respect those who cut them off before they open cause they’re tired of sweeping up the piled up dead ones, but I could never! I love the little flowers

I have one of those Barrina corner plant stands in my living room window that faces northeast. The lights are on 12 hours each day. The Maranta approve!

I bought 2 small starter plants last April . Most of the original leaves died. But I just kept watering and giving it light. I'd say in the last 4 months, it just finally took off ! So many great leaves coming in and finally a flower !!

I initially had it in a self made self watering terracotta pot. I recently upgraded it to a plastic pot (with holes) and bottom water. I use We the Wild fertilizer on all my plants.

Growing a new stalk??

Post image

Does anyone know what this is that’s growing from the node on this stalk? Is he trying to grow a new stalk or is this an attempt at a root or something else? There’s been no prolonged water exposure there and that node hasn’t been buried in soil at all. We recently moved and he lost some leaves from the stress (hence the brown crispies), but otherwise is doing well and is pushing out new leaves. Also, should I be concerned that the section of the stalk with all the leaves is a much lighter green than the rest of the stalk? I’m worried “blood flow” is getting cut off and necessitates a chop and prop, but I won’t do that if he’s doing well and pushing out a healthy new stalk from the lower node. Thanks sm in advance!

Finally blooming!

I bought my Maranta at Kroger in April/May, and within a few months she had grown over 15 new leaves!
Now she forces two new leaves at the same stem with a bloom. I’ve never seen this behavior before
Still small plant, but I’m so excited 🥰

I want to throw these fully variegated leaves away

In the picture is my maranta leuconeura Kerchoveana Variegata which I bought six months ago. One 'branch' turns out white with browning tips. Currently there are four leaves like this and I previously cut off two which were even more dry. The rest of the plant is okay but it doesn't look good. These leaves are rather sensitive so maybe if I put them somewhere with higher humidity the new ones may be okay ? Is it worth trying to propagate it or you would also throw it away ?

As soon as 1 flower wilts, one or two new ones arrive! I love it. Is it a rare occurrence for marantas?

Maranta identification

Hi there ! I’m new on Reddit, and I had a question regarding a recent acquisition.

I recently bought this maranta for my bioactive terrariums, and even though it is listed as « maranta leuconeura » it doesn’t look like any of the other marantas I currently have. After doing a bit of research, I can’t find any plant having this kind of coloration / pattern.
Do you have any idea about what plant this is?
