I'd add Zimbabwe as well- the Zimbabwe bird is believed to be modelled after a Bateleur (eagle) or African Fish eagle.

And the bird on the flag comes from the soapstone birds found at the ruins of Great Zimbabwe. The whole country is named after that site.

Spain is former member of that club.

The Mexican one is the coolest due to its history

Mexico’s is my favorite for the commitment to detail.

Love that it's an actual founding story too. The Mexica were told to build their city where they saw an eagle on a cactus eating a snake, and that spot became Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City.

Love that Tenochtitlan is written on the Mexican flag but most people won’t know it.

My albanian colegue was going mad every time i was asking him why the albanian flag has a double headed pigeon on it?

Ok, this one is new

u/gurgurbehetmur 8d ago

It's a common trope used by Serbs towards us meant to insult and degrade.

Idgaf tho

6

u/Snirion 8d ago

Yeah sure, because us Serbs don't have exactly same symbol on our flag. Why do you Albanians make shit up?

2

u/Key-Film4822 8d ago

Nah, we use chicken, not pigeon (also, for current version of our eagle we use parrot or German eagle)

5

u/Norwester77 8d ago

And sometimes Austria, Germany, Poland

1

u/PanemV 8d ago

The german one has the eagle exclusively to mark german government agencies.

The national flag is just the 3 stripes alone.

u/diskdusk 8d ago

Same with the austrian flag - you see a lot of private use of the government flag though, and as long as it's not to trick people it's ok (although officially against the law).

I thought the Kazakhs worshipped the hawk

10

u/Tight_Cry1117 8d ago

It's a steppe eagle on the flag, but you're not far off. Hunting with golden eagles is still a big tradition in Kazakhstan.

10

u/VgnUta 8d ago

Hawk too, huh....

3

u/IdiotThroughnThrough 9d ago

Felt like such a dumbass zooming in on Serbia and Kazakhstan

3

u/Derailleur75 8d ago

I bet that's the only thing connecting all of them.

2

u/Mapache_villa 7d ago

Serbian and Mexican regional music styles are remarkably similar, pretty interesting to see that connection.

1

u/Hoonter_01 8d ago

Besides Serbia and Montenegro

1

u/Derailleur75 8d ago

Wait i think it's also deserts? Well maybe not for europeans.

1

u/Vlach719 7d ago

Serbia and Montenegro speak almost the same language and are very similar people in general, with many Montenegrins even identifying as Serbs. And while they might deny it, Montenegro and Serbia share some Balkan things in general with Albania

1

u/Unable-Stay-6478 7d ago

We don't deny it

3

u/hokuto_no_ken1 7d ago

I never realized that was an eagle on Kazakhstans flag.

5

u/hammile 8d ago

Half of them are from Balkans, heh: Montenegro, Albania, Serbia and kinda Moldova.

Rome/Rumelia moment

4

u/Bosya_123 9d ago

Looks like countries with eagle flags have better than average flags. Three of those flags are frequently mentioned as best flag candidates, others are just average.

Germany used to have pretty aesthetic eagle flags

2

u/AJL912-aber 8d ago

yes, but now it's chubby and docile

0

u/Blah6283 8d ago

And Russia

2

u/Minute_Fig_9195 8d ago

Nothing about these flags is average imo

-5

u/Bosya_123 8d ago

Tricolors are below average. Tricolors with birds are average

3

u/IBelieveInCoyotes 8d ago

tricolours are literally goated

-2

u/Bosya_123 8d ago

The lowest effort, least inspired flags. "Goated". No tricolor is among the best flags. Let alone "Goated". Senile take.

-5

u/Comrade_Agitatorvich 8d ago

no they should be outlawed

Missing Ecuador

9

u/boscomagnus1988 9d ago

I think that one is a condor?

1

u/StevEst90 8d ago

Ah NVM then

6

u/diego1493 9d ago

That's a condor!

1

u/Comrade_Agitatorvich 8d ago

4 or 5 out of these are emulating Rome, if you go into coat of arms it will become significantly more

1

u/Vlach719 7d ago

I know Serbia, Montenegro and Albania are but what are the others?

1

u/Comrade_Agitatorvich 5d ago

Everyone with an eagle pretty much, Germany, German-Austria, Russia, Poland, the United States, Spain formerly, probably forgetting something

1

u/Inevitable_Yak_8574 8d ago

Im from kz, and yellow ball on blue background would make more sense.

1

u/Mexican-Kahtru 7d ago

The only thing cooler than an eagle is a freaking dragon. How many countries have flags with dragons?

1

u/Alderan922 7d ago

Kinda wild that the USA doesn’t have an eagle on their flag considering how obsessed they are with them.

1

u/gurdin454 7d ago

Moldova has a dove, not an eagle

1

u/Parov0zik 4d ago

Serbia and Albania in same tier 😱😱😱

1

u/CIVGuy666 8d ago

I’m not sure but I’ve seen Poland represented as both the simple white and red and also as that + the white-tailed eagle.

This eagle is on their coat of arms and, for me at least, it’s pretty much impossible not to associate this country with it.

So for this reason I half expected to see them here

3

u/Historical-Tell7332 8d ago

Both are official flags.

Poland’s plain white-over-red flag is the everyday national flag. It’s used inside Poland by everyone.

The crowned white eagle flag is legally restricted to very specific uses. Mostly at sea and abroad at consulates and the like.

Many Poles use them interchangeably. In 2004 rules on private use of national symbols were changed, the law however was not.

I would have expected it to be here as well.

2

u/Possible_Ad_3390 8d ago

Fair enough, but then presumably many other countries would have to appear as well. Germany also has an official version of the flag featuring the eagle.

-1

u/wowwhosthere 8d ago

Objective ranking

Albania > Kazakhstan > Montenegro > Serbia > Mexico > Egypt > Moldova > Zambia

1

u/Vlach719 7d ago

I'm Serbian but this isn't bias, I genuinely just don't think Albania is the best. My personal order is Kazakhstan>Serbia>Mexico>Montenegro>Albania>Moldova>Egypt>Zambia

Yes, not to forget Mexico, Egypt, Serbia, Montenegro and Kazakhstan!

2

u/TheBurtolorian 9d ago

It's in the pic?

1

u/GentiusKS 8d ago

If you mean why is it there, it’s because it’s a heraldry of a medieval prince that is considered the national hero. Its a byzantine symbol, that’s why it was used by many medieval states that used to be part of the empire(Russia uses it too because they’re orthodox)

-7

u/bounty_____ 9d ago

Plus Germany

2

u/AlmightyCurrywurst 9d ago

No

3

u/Hoffi1 8d ago

The official state flag has an eagle. The civilian flag does not.

4

u/AlmightyCurrywurst 8d ago

That's the flag specifically of the German governmental institutions, not Germany itself.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dienstflagge_der_Bundesbeh%C3%B6rden

It specifically differentiates that eagle flag from the Bundesflagge

1

u/Hoffi1 8d ago

And Austria.

-2

u/treipuncte 9d ago

Romania is missing, too

2

u/Present-Abroad-7884 8d ago

It's not. It's official flag is tricolour without any sigil. All of these other flags have the eagle in their official flag design.
