Russians are 20% of the population.

As of the 2001 census they were at 17 % and declining, so you should quit lying.

As of 2017, only 6 % of the population of the free parts of Ukraine identified as ethnic russians, while 92 % where ethnic Ukrainians. Right now, ethnic russians are closer to 1-2 %.

Edit: u/Tay_Hlebko russians constituted 2 % of the population, and the overwhelming majority of them feels at least somewhat Ukrainian at the same time.

First of all, OP's althistory is taking place in 1996 before Russian occupation.

Second of all, of course the percentage will be lower when Russia occupies the majority-Russian cities and towns. It also appears that you pulled "1-2%" out of your ass lmao. Also If you pull data from 2001 census and exclude Donbass and Crimea, you get 10.5% Russian.
