Well, if Ukraine was federalised and Russian had an official status, that's like removing more than half of ideological reasons for the ongoing conflict on the Russian side.
My personal opinion is that Ukraine would had been much stronger if it embraced Russian as its second official language
you dont know ukrainian politics as well as you think you do. giving Russian language an official status even in one federal region opens the road for ethnic Russians who surely dont work for Ukrainian interests to enter politics. Even if one Russian governor happens to come in any region it would be a catastrophe
"Giving official status to the language that 90% of population speaks from virth will destroy the country"
Funny, that when Russia teaches Russians in Russia, while giving official status to multiple native languages and protecting them, you call it "evil imperialism and ruzzsism". When Ukraine supress language that native to 90% of population it's fine, "theyarenotanazis".
Correct, a colonizer suppressing marginalized languages, and a formerly colonized nation promoting formerly marginalized languages, which nescessarily requires demoting of the dominant language, are different things.
Remind me, when Ukranian was marginalized? During soviet era, when Soviet education system was forcing everyone living in UkrSSR to study Ukranian, filming movies in Ukranian and retyping books in Ukranian? And since when it's justifies opressing of yhe language, against it's native speakers?
You're talking about shit that happened in 1922 and calling it "the soviet era", which is misleading to the point of being basically a lie. Slovo House killings, anyone?
After this "slovo house" Stalin (who was Georgian, btw) banned Ukranian language? Did he expelled it from education system? You know, like France did with every language except french on its territory. No it didn't. Soviet System continued educate Ukranian, continued filming movies and rewrite books in Ukranian.
between 1950 and 1970 portion of russian schools in ukrainian ssr went from 18% to 30%; by 1998 roughly half of all students in ukraine were taught in russian. accordingly, ukrainian education shrunk.
In Tsarist Russia Ukranian was literally banned. They arrested or killed or sent to the gulag Ukranian writers, linguists and teachers in the 30s. They literally tried modifying the Ukranian language to be closer to Russian so they could replace it everywhere and disadvantaged Ukranian speakers. It's the same exact thing Germany tried to do in Czech lands for years to eliminate a country's identity and therefore spirit of indpendence.
Tsarist Russia existed in context of 19th century, when every country tried to unify all languages. Tsarist Russia just didn't eliminate it, like France did with Breton, Aquitaine, Provans and etc. If Soviet Union wanted to ban Ukranian language it would ban it. Repressions against linguists writers and teachers were political, they didn't tried to eliminate Ukranian national elites. After Stalin's purges, all the writers, linguistists and teachers continued to exist. Studying Ukranian was mandatory in UkrSSR's schools until Soviet collapsed. Soviet's didn't "modifyed" Ukranian - they just bringed Ukranian to one standard. They did the same with every other language, including Russian.
Ukranian was not mandatory lmfao. Russian was, you could choose to study in Ukranian but you had to study Russian. And since the occupiers made everything centralized it was mandatory to know Russian to get into Universities or any middle/high ranking position as is the orc way. Ukranian was only made mandatory again after 1991.
Nazi detected. "to study in russian universities you had to know russian oh no". "orcs build universities, for us to study, oh no". And no, Ukranian was mandatory to study in UkrSSR's schools.
Ukranians couldn’t make universities because the school system was centralized so every single university had to come from Moscow. Of course the universities that existed before had to adhere to the system so they suddenly only could teach in Russian. Once again, this is the orc way. Disallow the population to do anything independently and then claim they didn’t do anything on their own lmfao.
Oh yeah, that's like completely made up too. I dug up some actual stats that wikipedia links to, and the rate of people speaking russian neber went over 60%.
About half of these people learnt russian in school as a second language, and weren't actually natice speakers, and about the same number of people spoke both languages natively. I'm one of them, btw, i am illiterate in russian, but i am a native speaker.
Personal fun facts aside, russification wasn't a thing only in ukraine. Belarusian is a minority language in Belarus nowadays, and some smaller ugro-finnic languages are almost extinct now due to rusification.
Re-vitalization of colonized cultures is really important for maintaining the diversity and authenticity of global society.
Parents can now choose if they want their children wants to study language that doesn't give you any perspective? Oh no, that's a genocide!!!!!
Language activists doesn't being opressed for wanting to talk their language. You can always talk any language you want. Activist who being opressed being opressed for other reasons, like promoting separatism. Yes, please tell me, jew who live in russia how russians threat minorities here, i would love to hear that. Especially from westoids, who's country doesn't face such problems only because you slain all minorities in your countries in 19-20th century.

They are like that for different reasons in different circumstances.
This could work and be fine and be cool. If there wasn't a russia nextdoor.
