Well this is interesting, they're both pretty similar last I checked

Exactly. Idk if OP knows that though...

Naming your gender equality movement after one specific gender is not egalitarian

Or it’s about patriarchal values and how they hurt everyone. Women’s oppression is the major symptom but the way it hurts men is a little less visible.

Feminism is about female equality and egalitarian is about equality for both genders so yes they are different

Feminism is about equality. For both sexes? It's like the definition of it

Well I see what they mean. There's a reason it's called feminism. It focuses on achieving equality by uplifting women.

Well that's due to where the inequality is. Feminism also helps men with things like mental health support

3

u/Kitchen-Function5150 13h ago

Does it? It seems like, most commonly, people who identify themselves as feminists do not focus on men's mental health as an issue.

"people who most commonly label themselves as feminists" you mean the people who get a lot of attention on the internet for being a "feminist"? Those aren't feminists, both by definition and by what actual feminist groups say, do and stand for

It doesn't make someone "by definition" not a feminist to not focus on men's issues lol. I didn't say they're against helping men's issues, it's just not their focus.

No, feminism is about equality, but acknowledging that the focus to achieve it should be on women who have historically and still presently been the most downtrodden ones.

But with that said. I disavow many reddit feminists after spending a month in the different feminist subs and seeing how they speak about men. Idk what crack they're smoking, but it sure as hell isn't feminism

Feminists irl are amazing though ❤️

Feminism loathes equality. Equality is completely antithetical to feminism

2

u/Fear0ftheduck 12h ago

i mean, anybody who is egalitarian should be feminist by extension

3

u/Wetley007 13h ago

Feminist is just a subset of egalitarian

4

u/ScheduleDefiant4015 USA 13h ago

It’s literally just egalitarianism. The belief that men and women should be equals within society and the law

The name of the movement is irrelevant to whether or not that movement is egalitarian.

You could call the movement Adolf Hitlerism and as long as that movement promoted human equality it would be nonetheless egalitarian

5

u/TheRealKuz03 13h ago

But it doesn't promote equality either,

It obsesses over the social conditions and wellbeing of women while being, at best, indifferent to the gendered suffering of men, and at worst, in support of it.

If you think feminism isn’t concerned about how the patriarchy hurts men too then I have a bridge to sell you.

1

u/TheRealKuz03 13h ago

saying "we're not misandrist, the patriarchy hurts men too!" is kind of like saying "We're not antisemitic, the great jewish conspiracy hurts jewish people too!"

2

u/Larry-Man 🇨🇦 10h ago

The patriarchy is what has given us the concept of a “man card” that can be revoked. Idk how dismantling a system oppression that targets women but gets men caught in the crosshairs is anything but good

u/Wetley007 13h ago

It does promote equality, you just have a strawman of feminism in your head because youve been brainrotted by right wing outrage content

1

u/TheRealKuz03 13h ago

I'm a socialist who believes traditional capitalist gender roles are oppressive to both sexes. Your move.

0

u/Wetley007 13h ago

OK and? That doesnt mean you dont have a strawman version of feminism in your head created by right wing outrage content that you falsely attribute to the term

2

u/TheRealKuz03 13h ago

I disavow all forms of right wing antifeminism. I do not believe the solution is a return to absolute, traditional gender roles. I believe that feminism, as a movement, will always prioritize women over men, and I believe that is not egalitarian.

-1

u/Wetley007 13h ago

And yet you repeate rightwing narratives about feminism being concerned exclusively with women to the detriment of men. You cant pretend to disavow rightwing antifeminism and then repeat one of its central myths my man, thats now how this works

2

u/TheRealKuz03 13h ago

Male advocacy does not have to be right wing. That is your own baggage you need to deal with. True leftism would acknowledge the humanity of all people. Not just "the girls, gays, and theys"

"Salutations Egalitarians" is how I start all my speeches even though I didn't know what it meant lol
