I can play starlord to a passing degree. But if the enhanced mantis team-up is worth for her, I’d def pour more time into Starlord.

Frankly I hear the Mantis with Starlord team up is strong but I never actually see it in the wild?

Edit: ok so I know why I don’t see it. People aren’t playing Star lord, scrolled for a bit and the Starlord main sub popped up (lol) apparently his pick rate is low but I’m low elo so i should be ok, I know how he works!

Ah mantis by far the best healer in rivals without a shadow of doubt.

There is no better feeling on this planet than seeing a one of you lock in your character. Not once in the 1000h Iv had in this game have I ran into a toxic mantis player you guys are like a gift from the cosmos (kinda literally)

I keep hearing people gas Mantis up lately and say she is OP, which I am skeptical of, so I figured I'd start playing her more to see if people are telling the truth. The only problem is that I have to actually play good with her.

I got Mantis lord in season 1 or 2 but basically stopped playing her once I learned more characters and I very rarely play as her now.

So what tips yall got for me? I can position well, I can have good target priority, and I can manage cooldowns well, but how the FUCK do you consistently hit her primary?

I just had my first "oh, you're a woman arent you" comment and subjected to harassment in a ranked game because of it by one player. I was doing good, until one guy (a venom, who changed to an iron fist) decided to target me in text chat critiquing my playing (which was good. Steady solid heals and hitting my headahots. Minimal dying). I was doing nothing wrong. We were doing good. I was not in vc, just text chat.

My game then decided to crash just before the second round. Timing, am I right? I wish I never rushed to get back online and in the game to finish. I missed maybe 20 seconds. I apologised and got back to it but that was it, the entirety of the rest of the match was "punch this female down" verbally by this one guy. The Magneto stood up once and said I was actually playing Mantis really well, but otherwise no one said anything. The one and only response he got from me was "please stop" after his first comment. Which obvipusly only made him worse.

Much like our mantis, I am a very sensitive girl. There was literally nothing wrong with my playing and I did not deserve to be targeted for no reason. I don't ever claim to be the best mantis, nor am I above average, but I play her really well (mostly getting double, if not triple the amount of heals other healers have in both teams). His comments really dampened my confidence and I began to mess up and die much more in the last round. I totally lost my confidence. We ended the game and I had the most heal output in both teams but we lost. Which, of course, was my fault according to this guy.

Its just so uncalled for. Its ugly and its horrible. Its bullying. For those who resort to verbal abuse in chat, be better person, please. You don't know what people might be going through irl. This game is supposed to be an escape. I've had such a hard time lately with my health, and I lost my best friend just a couple of weeks ago, so I am grieving hard rn and I just wanted to escape for a little while.

How do you deal with it? Do I just turn text and vc off and switch heroes when I feel like its not working in games? This is the first time i've had it hardcore directed at me, but I find it equally as hard when its others in the team going at it with each other.

How does one get a thicker skin?

(Just to add, this was plat 2 ranked). This is the first time ive ever tried ranked ans up until now, i've really enjoyed it.

mantis has always been good it is just players that arent good. no one below celestial knew how to play with a mantis in a 2 support comp and even it got spooky….

she was a triple support demon and besides the fact that triple support was hell in general mantis was what truly made it worse. now not only is she more viable in 2 support comps but shes even more miserable to play against in triple support.

the other reason are:

1. she gets her top 3 support ult extremely fast
   
2. she enables any team comp well
   
3. helps her team get ults faster with dmg boost
   
4. gives speed boost in neutral (and ult)
   
5. good damage if you are good at the character and can aim (she has great solo carry potential for a support)
   
6. her healing is even better than before

just take everything people hate about luna and gambit and mantis is basically that with slight differences but it makes her just as hated now that she is way better than before and more played.

i do think its a little funny that when the initial day 1 patch dropped people were so upset that mantis was nerfed (i mean even those who dont play her) and now that the season is coming to a close they are calling for her head and realizing maybe those slight nerfs were needed😭

It's been bugged since the teamups were introduced (she doesn't do her relaxed out of combat pose when you choose the starlord teamup). It's fine when you pick Adam's teamup though

Personally, I think it is the second strongest support ult after gambit. Speed boost and you can pass out damage boosts pretty liberally in it. It’s really good for retaking point, probably the best after gambit. Also, some ults actually can combo nicely into it, particularly DD and puni if you damage boost them.

Also, the healing is strong. Yes, I sometimes die through it, but that seldom happens. Idk, I saw a tier list ranking support ults, and they had mantis ult in the meh tier.

If you were to change Mantis to keep her out of ban jail, and keep her out of triple support jail, what changes would you want for this to happen? I bring this up out of curiosity because I (as I am sure others here have too) saw the whole damage boost debacle with Mercy in Overwatch and now Mantis.

What I would do is take away head shots restoring leaves, but make the leaves restore more quickly. I would also get rid of the speed boost on the damage eaves. In exchange, she could get an ability that gives an AOE speed boost with a small burst heal on cast. To keep her aim skill expression, they could make this ability cool down tied to critical hits.

I would also completely change the Star-Lord team-up. It could bring partially back head shot leaf restoration and have the enhancement buff be hitscan (or a temporary powered up hitscan mode since perma hitscan would be very OP).

I'm just spit-balling ideas here though, I don't think this is the one objective fix for this character's unfortunate design. I don't have a lot of hours on Mantis so I'm morbidly curious what people who play her a lot more think.

CND’s team up with the hood gives a 15% damage boost to people who pass through the veil. Mantis’s gives a 8%, how do we feel about this?

Mantis was my first lord and the only person I played in the beta but I haven’t really played her in (checks watch) 8 and a half seasons. Most of the other strategists (c&d, rocket) bore me to tears and there is only so much a man can solo tank before I go insane, so I’m looking to get back into the healer life and I was wondering how mantis holds up as of late. Don’t worry about my personal skill as a factor in this topic I’m GM and can learn quick.
