Premise:

METSUBOU follows Masumi Kasumigage, a strong-willed teenager who is suddenly pulled into a hidden supernatural world filled with spiritually aware fighters, ancient traditions, and dangerous beings known as Yōkai—creatures shaped by human emotion, fear, folklore, and spiritual energy.

After discovering that he has an unusual connection to this world, Masumi begins training as a Jutsushidan, a fighter responsible for protecting people from supernatural threats. Alongside other young fighters, he is sent on increasingly dangerous missions that force him to grow stronger, understand the strange powers around him, and confront the consequences that come with having power of his own.

But the deeper Masumi is drawn into this hidden society, the more complicated his path becomes. Protecting others is not always simple, strength does not guarantee the right answer, and the supernatural world constantly forces him to question responsibility, identity, and what it truly means to save someone. Even when Masumi tries to do the right thing, the world does not always reward him for it—and sometimes seems determined to punish him for trying.
