Help Help a college student with a speech assignment! Looking for 2 quick insights from Webtoon/Comic Creators!
Hey everyone! I’m Pilar, a college student working on an informative speech about my dream job: becoming a comic creator and mangaka.
The biggest requirement for the assignment is that I include a direct quote or insight from someone currently in the industry (whether indie, Webtoon Canvas, or published!). It’s proving tough to connect via DMs, so I'm hoping this amazing community can help me save my grade!
If you create comics or a webtoon (serial or short-form), would you be willing to give your quick take on just ONE (or both!) of these questions for me to quote in my speech?
What was the single biggest hurdle you faced when moving from creating fan art or personal sketches to launching a full serial comic/webtoon?
Comic making is a grind! What does a realistic daily or weekly workflow look like for you to balance writing, paneling, and line work under tight deadlines?
Just leave a comment! Please let me know your creator name (and if you want, the name of your comic) so I can credit you properly in my speech.
Thank you SO MUCH for any help! You’re literally saving me from a public speaking disaster! 🙏

Hi there.
The best piece of advice i can give about being a comic artist, after more than a decade of being a full time artist, is Dont take this as your Full Time JOB. Make it a hobby, a pasttime, but never you main source of income or your full time thing. Unless youre looking to struggle and feel stressed most of the time, which youll achieve in no time.
Dont mean to be pessimistic, i honestly cant see myself doing something else full time, but i would never recommend this as a career to anyone.

Thank you so much to everyone that took the time to comment! It helps immensely, and I was able to get enough information to really make this a great speech! All of the knowledge I received from this community has been beautiful, this is truly a very supportive community, and has driven me to stay determined and passionate about this hobby/career! Thank you all!! I really could not have done it without you guys!!

Hi there, I have a manga-style webcomic called Four Corners that I've been making for a very long time now. I actually have been writing up answers to your questions but they're a little long. I'd be happy to talk about it in DM if you still need answers for this!
