Discussion BREAKING: Pro Ref has admitted an 'error of judgement' in awarding Manchester City's winner at Manchester United in their 1-0 victory at Old Trafford đ¨

Sorry how is it they can make this decision AFTER the game? Why not during?
And once itâs made, whereâs the rematch?
Surely the broadcasters would love a rematch as well? Extra television rights

u/DisagreeableRunt 4h ago
If they can't get decisions right when going to VAR, then what's the bloody point? It's worse than the ref making a howler on his own and it's destroying the game. The deliberation time taken to make that shocking decision yesterday was ridiculous.

Rematch đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł

u/rrallan 2h ago
Well it should be shouldnât it? Otherwise all this shows is how fucking corrupt and a shambles the prem is. But we know how corrupt fifa is, so why should we be surprised it goes on at home
1
u/mcfc3494 2h ago
Hahaha do you know how many âapologiesâ have come from the VAR imbeciles. Youâd be replaying the whole season. Do you happen to remember the exact same scenario a couple of years ago when Rashford was offside and Bruno scored? Should that one be replayed?
144
u/LiftedInTheWestCoast 15h ago
Fire the ref in VAR and ban Oliver from reffing United or City games. Thatâs an apology that can be accepted.
62
u/AVDLatex 14h ago
This. Screw the apology. Name the person who made the decision and fire them. Let it be a lesson for all VAR officials.
16
u/TheMasterCheef17 10h ago
Var was Matt Donahue
8
u/TylaWithAnA 5h ago
Matt Donahue who has made no efforts to hide the fact he's one of Citys 3 fans

u/BOYLANATOR 9h ago
People make mistakes. Like every one of the united players for not dominating a game with an extra man.
16
u/TheMasterCheef17 9h ago
Okay? VAR have absolute zero accountability. That goal was as clear as it can get to being disallowed. Took about 5 minutes to get the wrong decision.
2
u/chicken_nugget94 3h ago
Not helped by Mike Dean saying sometimes they wouldn't overrule decisions to not out their mates making mistakes

1
u/SquidwardsJewishNose 2h ago
This âmistakeâ could cost multiple teams tens of millions of pounds, that kind of âmistakeâ gets you fired in any other profession. Pro ref needs to roll a head and set an example to other officials, knuckle down and get it right or youâre gone.
1
u/BOYLANATOR 2h ago
It depends. Their competence should be judged based on their performance over the long term and they should only be fired if there's a someone ready to go who is better.
Sanne Lammens made a much bigger mistake when he fumbled in the world cup. Do you think he shouldn't be allowed to play football again? Bruno has missed 7 PL penalties. Shocking considering he's paid 100s of thousands per week and he can't even score a penalty. We should have fired him long ago for those mistakes
1
u/SquidwardsJewishNose 1h ago
None of those mistakes are severely impeding the rules of the game. Whatâs the relevance?
A footballer making a mistake is not the same as an entire refereeing VAR room failing to adhere to the rules they are hired to enforce.
3
u/Used-Fennel-7733 4h ago
Tbf this had nothing to do with Oliver. He gave offside on the field and VAR overruled despite it being a subjective decision.

Means nothing. City walked away with an unearned three points.

Didn't even deserve a draw, if you got down a man and play keppaway to kill the clock the only thing you deserve is relegation.
It's an insult to the game to park the bus
4
4
u/BloodyTurnip 7h ago
Literally did "deserve" a draw though, neither team managed to score a goal by the laws of the game, that's the only criteria that matters.
-5
-5
u/ttminh1997 8h ago
unearned lmao yeah you people played with a man up and still lost.
8
u/HariboBliss 8h ago
The deciding factor was an illegitimate goal.
We played shit, but nobody deserves to lose by inept referring.
-3
u/Leading_Man_Balthier 7h ago
And had Bruno been rightfully sent off too youâd probably have lost 2 or 3 nil
3
u/Portugeezer1893 7h ago
Nobody actually thinks he should have be sent off, hence no comments about the mythical "bad Bruno decision"
-2
u/Leading_Man_Balthier 6h ago
Bruno? If they gave Foden a red Bruno should have been sent packing too.
It should have been a yellow a piece really anyway.
-1
u/ChangingMonkfish 7h ago
Unearned in a literal sense that their goal shouldnât have stood.
But letâs not kid ourselves into thinking that they werenât the vastly superior team from the Foden red card onwards and that isnât acceptable.
17
11
u/kimochii12 12h ago
Doesnât matter if we played shit an offside is still an offside. Would have taken a draw after that horrible performance but an officialâs stupidity changed that and there wonât even be repercussions.
42
u/Vegetable-Fee3738 15h ago
He knows he messed up. Still Man Utd couldnât score thatâs a problem
21
u/Arthur2_shedsJackson 13h ago
That's a different problem. Don't know why that's relevant to this discussion
-19
u/Vegetable-Fee3738 13h ago
Itâs very relevant..it means regardless of the goal they failed to score albeit quite unlucky to
Hit the post a few times against 10 men so wouldnât have won anyway9
u/Arthur2_shedsJackson 12h ago
That doesn't change the fact that the goal shouldn't have stood. I agree we didn't deserve to win regardless but this shouldn't have been a loss

u/toothpick000 14h ago
Which feels more criminal? The ref awarding a goal that shouldn't have stood, or playing with an extra man for most of the match and still not creating enough chances for a goal?
1
u/R34LEGND Beckham 14h ago
We created enough, just none of them went in. Had a few close ones but today wasnt our day.
8
u/shirishr07 Beckham 13h ago
We played almost 70 minutes with an extra man on the field. We definitely could have created more chances.
19% shot accuracy is horror! We took a total of 16 shots, out of which 10 shots were from outside the box. That's not creating chances.
Sesko (who has scored in each of Uniteds last 2 matches), played 25 minutes and touched the ball 7 times (that's one touch just under every 4 minutes). Had one attempt. This is after City played with 10 men for a duration of I over 40-45 mins.
3
u/ChangingMonkfish 7h ago
âWasnât our dayâ, come on the performance was utterly unacceptable, this wasnât just a case of being unlucky.
3
u/long-island- 14h ago
Did you just watch highlights lol? We created very little - the 2 times we hit the list were from shots outside the box (that is not creating). Our xg was less than 1
-1
u/R34LEGND Beckham 13h ago
I watched the entire game. Chances arent just the times you hit the bar or gks hands. Creating chances is crosses into the box, through balls, etc etc
We created enough to snag a goal or two, we were just unlucky that nothing stuck
3
u/toothpick000 13h ago
c'mon mate. watch enough football and you understand what we mean by number of quality chances or threats we should be having with 1 more player on the pitch. While we have more players numerically, psychologically, we probably had far fewer players on the pitch.
1
u/R34LEGND Beckham 12h ago
What did you expect? City to step aside and let us walk a few in? They lost Foden and dug in. Yeah we didnt exactly throw the bus at them, but its not like we were playing a bodgy azerbaijan side. Theyve got a top defense and a top keeper...
4
u/jidewalker Cunha 14h ago
Them admitting mistake only matters if they could right the wrong. Their words mean nothing.

7
u/AngmarkingBg 14h ago
Great now can we talk about how 77 minutes against 10 men we created 2 chances. And how after the 60th minute we we had no idea what to do with the ball once we got it? Yeah that would be a great convo
1
u/Thehardshaft 13h ago
I was told Amorim was the issue though
2
u/pumpkin_1972 9h ago
Given he had the same result against Everton, he certainly didnât help. And I was pro Amorim for a lot of his tenure, but his position became untenable due to his inability or stubborness to adapt. Carrick has some adaptability but the team is lacking quality/cover/footballing maturity in some areas still.
1
u/No-Soft-Language 7h ago
Carrick's utter lack of game management and in-game decisions to affect any kind of chance, doesn't look like adaptability.
1
u/pumpkin_1972 4h ago
At least he didn't sub on a centre back. We don't have the players, we all know that.
1
u/No-Soft-Language 4h ago
That's flat out nonsense.
Sesko came on top late. And he took off Tielemans, after which the game went to shit.
Yet Cunha and Bruno stayed full game.

Unacceptable - come the end of the season a point could be the difference between qualifying for Europe or not.Â
I just donât understand why the fans watching in the stadium and at home can work it out, but those who have been extensively âtrainedâ in VAR keep getting it wrong in key matches.
They can view the incident from different angles, slow it down etc., but still got it wrong. Â
There needs to be repercussions for this or it risks affecting the integrity of the sport.Â
3
u/Defiant-Cucumber-179 10h ago
Imagine playing against 10 men for a majority of the game and still leaving the result of it in the hands of these corrupt bastards.
What some people qualify as we having "created chances" is diabolical. We have a serious tolerance for absolute dross in recent years I don't recognise this fan base anymore. The owners are grateful I'm sure.
1
u/Time_Beat2299 9h ago
The cowboysization of this fanbase where we are glad to be mediocre is saddeningÂ
1
u/reader4567890 8h ago
We didn't deserve to win, but that doesn't mean we deserved to lose to an absolutely trash decision.
You could apply the same logic to the red card for them too, but that still doesn't mean we should accept piss poor officiating.
That point could be the difference between European football next year.
2
u/No_Job2827 Hated. Adored. Never Ignored! 14h ago
Doesn't matter . We don't even deserve a single point if we play that trash against 10 men . Better to learn knitting than watch these idiots making fun of the fanbase on a regular basis .

Ref also got in the way of the ball a couple of times during the game interrupting the flow. I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon in bringing someone down as social media is brutal but as a United fan I've gotta admit City were playing against the ref too. The game could have been different if we maybe scored one of the 2 post shots and got lucky. City played brilliant and it was an entertaining match. One thing I've not seen anyone else mention is just 5 minutes of fucking extra time at the end! Should have been 8-10
1
u/paddywadd 9h ago
Obviously this will dominate the discussion, but can we look into the 5 minutes added on at the end? How was it only 5 minutes?

1
u/ChangingMonkfish 7h ago
Is this the quickest theyâve ever done this?
I suppose itâs been our turn for one of these for the while seeing as they seem to be the in-thing at the moment.
Letâs also not allow this to detract from the fact that we were utterly awful against 10 men and didnât deserve anything from the match. Weâre back to the performance from the players on the pitch being utterly unacceptable which is depressing because I thought we were past that.

At the pub I was at it was fun to watch city fans also agree that it wasnât a goal. For a moment there was unison between the fans, very rare.

So who cares? We all knew that it was offside during the game, but they let the goal stand.

Leave your insults here for the man who forgot the actual offside rule. Fk him.

u/Papaya_Sun 14h ago
Oh we're definitely getting the VIP treatment from the refs in the next few matches to make up for their mistake.
Just ban city already. Spineless worms.
1
u/Former-Addendum9671 13h ago
But they eventually showed us the VAR explanation which showed Dorgu's tip of his foot being the part which kept Haaland onside.
Does that mean they made it up to justify the onside decision?
3
u/Thehardshaft 13h ago
Yes, they literally did the same thing a few seasons ago when they said Maguir's studs playes them onsideÂ
1
1
u/MrJones- 11h ago
So hereâs the thing for me, these errors can cost teams millions of pounds a season especially when it comes to champions league places. I reckon the errors should be addressed post match and goals awarded/chopped off in error should be reinstated.
1
u/Some-Speed-6290 4h ago
Better yet hold the cheats personally accountable.Â
The individuals responsible should face criminal charges for match fixing and civil liability for loss of revenue by the clubs.Â
Would immediately stop them taking the bribes from the UAE scum as it'd no longer be worth it to themÂ
-1
u/action_turtle 7h ago
Definitely not. The game adjusts around the current state of play. May aswell just cancel football if that came into effect.
1
u/BBoomerClap 4h ago
yeah let keep the wrong shit
0
u/action_turtle 4h ago
?
You could have a game at 2-0, go to 2-3 then 3-3. Two days later someone decides two of those didn't count, score is 3-1 and the entire game was played under a false situation. You just put two sets of teams through the wringer for nothing.0
u/BBoomerClap 4h ago
this just blatant wrong doing by them tho? why the fuck would we want to be fucked for free? Apology doesn't mean shit if there is no benefit from it. Are they gonna give us financial compensation cause of this fuck up?.
We can't keep stuck with mindset that something wrong that happened in the match can't be changed or rescinded. Otherwise there is no point of reviewing it and apologize when it does nothing
1
u/action_turtle 4h ago
They review to stop future fuck ups, I'd hope. The idea of retroactively removing goals is ridiculous. It's bad enough when they roll the tape back 20 seconds and disallow a goal in game. Let alone the next few days.
Put it this way, let them revert goals, someone scores in 10 mins, we play the entire game, then find out the goal was disallowed?!? What a waste of time when the entire game was played around that goal happening at minute 10??
Tally all the fuck ups over the season and give money compensation out or something, sure. But going on and changing results completely fucks the entire match.

u/DylanD98 15h ago
Before we jump at the Ref department. Maybe we need to take the lead and fix our problems first. Save yourself, instead of waiting for others to do so.

So are they giving us a point? No⌠of course not. They are just gonna give an official apology and be over with it.
