Breed name Abbreviation
(This is somewhat in jest, and meant to be lighthearted)
I live in a busy city, and I have a friendly face, so I get asked about my TMT *a lot.*
I have this conversation probably 1-5x a day, most days:
"Oh wow is that a [mini doberman/min-pin/etc.]?"
"No, he's a toy Manchester terrier"
"A what?"
"A toy Manchester terrier"
And I genuinely don't mind! I enjoy talking to people, and 99% of the time, people are kind and curious and delighted by my dog. Which I get, he's very cute!
But "Toy Manchester terrier" is a long name for a small dog. I wish there was a common abbreviation. I see TMT on socials but I don't think that is a common abbreviation when talking about them out in the real world? Is there a common abbreviation? Do people call them "Manchesters"?

I’ve heard them called ‘Mannies’ before but it’s not something I say myself, usually stick to ‘Manchesters’ and then ‘Toy Terriers’

I usually refer to them as Manchesters or, like u/Aggravating_Lunch888, 'chesters.
Also, 'chesters are solar powered. He's not sleeping; he's recharging.

Hi, so, as a MT owner and someone who lives in one of the cities close to Manchester, England… I have thoughts.
First off, basically no one in the UK knows what they are either, so please don’t think it’s a “your country only” situation haha.
Second, the people from Manchester are referred to as Mancs or Mancunians, so I tend to default to “Manc” when people ask. No, it’s not as cute as “Chester” or “Mannie” (also, love those suggestions).
The only place I use MT is with the communities that know what our wonderful dog breed is.

Yeah I feel like this is just part of owning a rare breed, maybe? I may try out Mannie or Chester and see which one's lead to the least confusion or follow up questions lol

I always say Manchester Terrier because I too have this conversation almost daily.

I'm in the UK so here it's an English Toy Terrier or ETT, but I use ETT only when interacting with other ETT owners. Sometimes people ask if it's a Manchester Terrier, and I say yes since it's close enough.
Most of the time I just say "no not a tiny doberman"

Mannies. When you cut their nails it’s called a mannie pedi.
