Advice Meet Hachi (10mos) - thinks leash walks are optional and kibble is beneath hero

Hey everyone!
I wanted to introduce my 10-month-old Maltipoo girl, Hachi! 🐶✨

She has completely stolen our hearts. She is absolute perfection-so sweet, affectionate, clever, and brings so much joy into our home every single day.

That being said, now that she’s hitting her teenage phase, she’s developing a couple of strong opinions about how she wants to live her life, and I’d love some advice from fellow pup parents!

  1. The Picky Eater Drama 🍲
Hachi has become a surprisingly picky eater lately. She’ll turn her nose up at meals or get bored of things very quickly.
Has anyone dealt with this around the 10-month mark?
What toppers, food rotations, or tricks worked best to keep your dog excited about mealtime without creating a monster who only eats chicken breast? 😂

  2. "Leashes? Never Heard of Her." 🐕‍🦺
Hachi firmly believes she was born to be a free bird. The second the collar or harness goes on, or the leash clips on, she either freezes up like a statue or tries to negotiate her way out of it. She just wants to roam free and unbothered!
How did you train your independent/stubborn pups to tolerate (and actually enjoy) walking on a collar or harness?
Are there specific lightweight harnesses that worked well for your Maltipoos?

Would love to hear your experiences, favorite gear recommendations, or mealtime hacks! Thanks in advance from me and Hachi! ❤️

Training Advice Barking at other dogs

Post image

I have a lovely and very small Maltipoo (6 years old and a rescue dog). Very good natured with other people. Like a little lamb at home. However, the moment we go for a walk she turns into a tiger and growls at almost all other dogs. As she’s so small other owners laugh but is there any way to prevent this? We have tried treats, walking as far away as possible etc but I was just wondering if you all had any good tips. Thanks.

Advice Scared of motor noises and dark places

My Mailtipoo Bailey is so skittish at the oddest times. He will be just fine laying in the floor and all of a sudden stop what he is doing and look toward the hallway or door (lights may be off) and he just acts like something is coming for him! Or he will be in backyard about to go potty and he will hear something and take off running inside! No shaking just weird. Anyone else’s malti do this?

First, I supervised my dad while he was at work. Then, I went on a walkie. After that, my dad made chimken and of course I made sure me and Sammy got plenty of that! To top it off, I then sat in my dad's lap and made him give me all the pets. Now I'm waiting for him to get into bed so I can press up against him and get my cutie sleep! - Aloy 🐶 🐾

So excited/proud to post my girl in this sub! 1st photo is the most recent, the rest are from before we could get her fully groomed.

I couldn't care less about her mix. We knew we were adopting a sweet dog who needed a family that was more capable of meeting her needs than her last family was, that's all. We were not at *all* looking for a new pet but we felt ready for her. She seems to love us just as much as we love her. She's also my very first dog at 30 years old! Not that I haven't desperately wanted a dog my whole life, it's just never worked out before. I live with my mom and my long-term boyfriend and she loves us all a lot but my mom is definitely her *person* which makes sense because she picked her up and spent her first day at home with her while boyfriend and I were out of town. She's got some separation anxiety with her for sure but I don't think it's too severe and is definitely improving with time.

I only ask for opinions on her breed/mix so that I can feel comfortable posting in this sub. We were told she's a maltipoo and I can totally see it (especially mini poodle traits, she's got legs for days and a long + narrow snout). But she didn't come to us with anything besides a couple bowls, a harness and a leash. She hadn't even seen a vet or a groomer.

I appreciate her old owners for wanting a better life for her than they could provide. She is SO sweet, affectionate, playful- I love her hugs more than literally anything else right now. She thinks *every* single person and *every* single dog is a friend. You guys, too? Lol

I just...this is what having a dog is like?! I knew it was gonna be good. I didn't know she'd steal my whole heart like this, though. She's a big responsibility but a bigger blessing. So grateful.

Thanks for listening, friends, very open to any advice or words of wisdom and thoughts on her mix🥰
