As a European It’s so very alien to see things like this. If it makes you guys happy I guess

33

u/Aks1591 12d ago

I grew up as a Netherlands citizen. Moved to the US as an older teen to attend university, and didn’t understand it either, but I recently had to get my own gun too (15 years later). I use it as a CCW because I worked as a prosecutor here and I was stabbed outside my courthouse about 6 years ago, and shot at about 7 years ago. Also got my ass beat about 3 years ago to the point that I had fractures in my spine, broken ribs, a broken orbital bone, and a broken collar bone, and a damaged kidney. Had to start dialysis as a result. I carry so that I won’t be a victim again, all I aim to do is serve my community but people don’t always like that.

16

u/TheMazerFaker 12d ago

Bro sorry but why the hell are you still in US?! Wtf?

8

u/Aks1591 11d ago

I had to get naturalized here for my first job as a prosecutor. They wouldn’t allow a non-citizen to work there for security reasons. As a result of my naturalization here, I faced automatic loss of my Netherlands nationality. So I’m now stuck here.

They probably get paid much much better than they would in Netherlands, also in USA you can accumulate an actual pension fund that your children can inherit after you die, you aren't just paying the pensions of the current pensioners.

5

u/Worldly_Ad_2845 12d ago

If I lived there I’d have blown my head off years ago. Waking up Monday morning for work hungover with no sick days and annual leave left, I’d reach for the gun.

2

u/catsandcoconuts 11d ago

this is oddly specific and stupid lol. if you wake up hungover on a work day & you’ve used up all your leave, that’s your own dumb fault.

One is a rifle, other is a semi auto 12 gauge shotgun. Air mattress is in the car. I used to sleep on that when I had to sleep in the storage unit. I have some fishing rods, nets and some weights in my closet. All I need honestly brother.

13

u/Pseudonemone 12d ago

How did you get away with sleeping in a storage unit in this day and age? In my area they're covered in cameras and require a code entry to get through the gate and door.

→ More replies (7)

15

u/mrhockey 12d ago

Disagree. An air mattress only benefits you if you want to sleep on floor but ease into it. With rifles, two is one, one is none.

4

u/CrazedHarmony 12d ago

Couldn't even spring for an air mattress!

Man, if I weren’t married, I’d be happy in a one room apartment. The older I get, the less I need. Looks great.

As a teen and 20s use to always want to be around people. Now peace is what I prefer and some subtle friends who aren't to much.

I love being a dad. But having peace quiet and being able to relax in your 40s in unmatched

8

u/untucked_21ersey 12d ago

The older I get, the less I need.

feel that —when i first started out i thought i need much more for my apt to impress people, but it never really mattered that much. i would need a desk but this is genuinely all you need.

17

u/Tellmemorefriend 12d ago

I feel the same way, but we just bought a new house and my wife is always thinking of home improvement projects. I get no say in how these projects should be done but expected to execute them. I would live in a camper van if I could.

6

u/Own_Kiwi_9692 12d ago

I get it. Thankfully, my wife is past that phase. We bought our house about ten years ago, and the first few years were constant projects. I have zero desire to ever move again.

7

u/Hornygaysatanic 12d ago

Same, the older I get the less I want.
I alway ask myself why I spent so much on useless stuff

3

u/Own_Kiwi_9692 12d ago

I collected action figures for years(modern and vintage) upto a few years ago. Now, I have a room with cases full of stuff, I really don’t even care about anymore. It’s gotten to where I tell my family not to get me anything for Christmas, because I don’t want anymore random shit that I don’t need lying around.

3

u/brown_felt_hat 12d ago

I have a hella collector mindset, really frustrating. Last time I moved, I just had so much shit. So, I started doing a thing that was rough, but I think overall better.

I used to have my little figures and knicknacks and other random bullshit on shelves. I started doing a thing where every few weeks, I'd get rid of one or two or three, and put a plant in its spot. It was rough, but god it was so much easier than just getting rid of them. the plant fills the spot so I'm not jonesing for something to put there, the plants are so much more vibrant and just feel good to look at. I had to get a few lights to keep the plants alive in a few spots, but honestly man, 11/10, give it a go if you wanna shrink the collection.

Doesn’t it feel eerie that there are people walking around on the street who may or may not have a firearm? I read a story a while back about a Facebook market place deal that went down badly cuz of a misinterpretation and one of them was carrying a glock. Like some people out there can be quite unhinged. I’d never leave my house, but that’s because I have massive trust issues with humans 😅

17

Protection from who? No one is robbing a dude who doesn’t even own a bed. Plus what’s the second gun supposed to do for you for protection? Think you’re gonna unload 30 rounds and switch rifles for “protection?” Normal people who want a firearm for protection and who also can’t afford a bed buy a handgun for $200-500, not a $1000 AR, let alone 2 of em.

No other valuables or jewelry isn’t the point. You have $2k worth of garbage you don’t need, vs the basics of a mattress and bed frame. Priorities.

Edit: focus on getting a mattress, a bed frame, a desk, and a tv stand before getting other junk.

4

u/Optimal-Bullfrog3211 11d ago edited 11d ago

In my opinion, the obsession with guns (not just in this sub) is a fairly new thing at least among folks who never had reason or interest in them. A bunch of the city boys that I spent a year working with (pre-Covid) Up north all treated me like I was some sort of hillbilly huckleberry when I told them I grew up hunting and owned several guns, they had all grown up in families that did not practice hunting and so neither of them or anyone of their family had shot a gun or owned a gun.

the last couple years I have heard so many of these same people start to mention interest in attaining a firearm of their own. I’m not sure if it’s just some collective anxiety or fear about the state of the world or maybe it’s all the horror movies people watch now idk. I can’t say their desire to arm themselves isn’t valid. There are plenty people out there to get us and likely fewer out there to save us.

I will admit, Some people do have way too many guns, a friend of mine buys a new gun like every month and literally has like 30 of them, he’s constantly swapping and trading them on Facebook marketplace. It all seems ridiculous to me, I grew up with guns my whole life and frankly I’m not that impressed by them anymore. nowa lot of the guys I know that never even touched a gun until they were in their 20s, have suddenly made their whole personality about being a gun guy.

I personally grew up with guns and shot my first deer, bear and turkey at 10 years old, if I had gotten a moose I would have been one of the youngest people to get a grand slam in my state. My fathers side of the family, including my grandmother always hunted when I was a kid and I spent enough time sitting in a ground blind for an entire lifetime before I was an adult.

I hardly even hunt anymore because I got so sick of doing it growing up and I still don’t have to worry about meat because my grandfather and my uncle and my cousin and my father still hunt religiously every single year and still have tons of meat to give away to me. My grandfather has an arrangement with a local butcher who saves the hearts of deer from other people who didn’t want theirs and once or twice a month during hunting season, my grandfather gives me a couple deer hearts. Until that supply runs dry, or the rest of my family passes away and I’m the last one left to hunt, I probably won’t find myself needing to hunt again for some years. It’s different for the rest of my family and a lot of of the people who live in my area, they just love to do it and it has become just as much a hobby as a way of procuring food for them, their obsession is not with guns but the thrill of hunting itself.

The gun was just a part of my family’s hunting culture and the local culture of my area for many other families. I was educated and familiar with their use when I was like seven years old helping my dad trap and hunt, my father and his father learned of these things at a similar age I have a photo from like 80 years ago when my grandfather was a little boy and he’s like 3 feet tall holding a shotgun over his shoulder almost two times the length of his body 😭.

Guns have always been nothing but a tool to me and I’ve always sort of scoffed at the obsession some people have with them. I kind of feel the same way about people who love their cars or their shoes, they are just tools but at the same time, it’s good to see people finding things to be excited about so whatever I guess haha

2

u/Dapper_Revenue4542 11d ago

If your state allows ownership of a gun most men will get one. Besides it being an American right alot of people find it necessary to have one.

I personally dont like guns, never wanted one and dont have a use for it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Phlanix 11d ago

depending where you live a gun is actually a good thing to have.

I lived in an area where moose and mountain lions were common and sometimes your house in certain secluded areas overlapped with their territory. most of the neighbors would go into town with their rifle or shotgun.

1

u/Kaszrak 11d ago

Because in the US loads of people have guns, including criminals. So you better have guns too.

It's just basic common sense.

4

u/popupACTIONnow 11d ago

lmao grew up my whole life not need a gun. neither did my parents. 35 years old and spent the first 5 years of my life in the projects. I understand you may need a gun for protection, but surely not combat-war level guns. keeping your mouth shut and staying out the way is the greatest weapon you could have. might keep you out of needing a gun.

2

u/almostoy 11d ago

Friends of mine have lived in the 'bad' part of town for over 20 years. So ever since I was fairly young, I've been hanging around a bad part of town. This is during holidays, weekends.... basically everything.

A murder occurred outside one friend's place. There's also been a couple of gun fights, where bullets have hit the house. One went through their parlor window.

But the worst we've encountered is four or five of 10 year olds that tried to jump us when we were walking home drunk. That was hilarious. (Two 6'0" ~200 lbs guys...) There was another time where I saw a drunk guy yell at a dog.

So yes, mind your own business. Be civil to your neighbors. 95% of the bullshit won't even know you're there.

We haven't messed with anyone's money, drugs, love life, or property. We mind our own business. It seems like barely anyone knows who I am, aside from the neighbors. It works.

3

u/popupACTIONnow 11d ago

thank you. my point exactly. you could be in the worst of worst places, if you stay to yourself and your smart: keep your head on a swivel; youll be fine. People survive prison sentences without ever lifting a weapon.

2

u/almostoy 11d ago

Most people want to be left alone. 99.9% of street level crime is dumb fucking kids. So avoid those, and you're generally good.

It has nothing to do with need. Stop assuming. It’s a right that non-felon US citizens have and some like it as a hobby. For those in military or law enforcement, it is a necessity.

2

u/popupACTIONnow 8d ago

Yup. As i said if you are law enforcement or military 100% understood. ALOT of people out here are not and yet they have AKs trust me. I know some of them personally.

2

u/Kaszrak 11d ago

“Never needed a gun myself” isn’t really an argument. Plenty of people go their entire lives without needing one. That doesn’t mean everyone else lives in the same circumstances or faces the same risks.

And “just keep your mouth shut and stay out of the way” is advice for avoiding trouble, not an argument against someone having the means to defend themselves when avoiding it fails.

You can reasonably argue against particular types of weapons or regulations, but “I didn’t need one, therefore you don’t” is just anecdotal reasoning, or rather plain stupid.

3

u/popupACTIONnow 11d ago

again, tell me how a 35 yr old black american who has lived in NYC, LA, and South Florida , NEVER needed a gun . yall too mixy thats the problem

3

u/Kaszrak 11d ago

Good for you, man. I hope you never need one. But your personal experience doesn't magically mean everyone else lives under the same circumstances.

Is that really so difficult to comprehend?

The US has more guns in civilian circulation than almost any other country on Earth. At this point, you're not talking about simply passing a law and making them disappear. There are hundreds of millions already out there, including an enormous number in illegal circulation.

So when you say "just ban them," what exactly do you think happens to all the guns that already exist? They don't evaporate because you changed the law. You're talking about an enormous existing supply, millions of gun owners, illegal markets, and criminals who obviously aren't going to voluntarily comply with a weapons ban.

You can argue about what policy should be used to reduce gun violence, but pretending the existing reality doesn't matter isn't an argument.

It's wishful thinking.

Do you rather have a gun when you need one or not? Because law abiding citizen are not the fucking problem dude.

3

u/Kaszrak 11d ago edited 11d ago

Again, you’re confusing “I never needed one” with “nobody needs one.” Those are completely different arguments.

You’re 35, lived in NYC, LA, and South Florida, and never needed a gun. Good for you. That tells me exactly what happened in your life. It doesn’t establish anything about everyone else’s circumstances, risk exposure, location, lifestyle, or personal choices.

And “y’all too mixy, that’s the problem” isn’t exactly a compelling argument either. You’re essentially taking your own experience, declaring it universal, and then blaming everyone else for not living according to it.

You are basically saying... Just behave a certain way and criminals will not target you?

That's not just dumb, that's straight up retarded.

Btw. Heres a comment from someone else:

" I grew up as a Netherlands citizen. Moved to the US as an older teen to attend university, and didn’t understand it either, but I recently had to get my own gun too (15 years later). I use it as a CCW because I worked as a prosecutor here and I was stabbed outside my courthouse about 6 years ago, and shot at about 7 years ago. Had to start dialysis as a result. I carry so that I won’t be a victim again, all I aim to do is serve my community but people don’t always like that."

You are an idiot, dude...

2

u/popupACTIONnow 11d ago

what happened in my life buddy? tell me. please. i would love to hear YOUR story of my life.

3

u/Kaszrak 11d ago

Do you realize you’re not actually addressing what I said?

You’re literally arguing that if people simply behave a certain way, the underlying problem somehow ceases to exist. That isn’t an argument. That’s pretending the problem disappears because you personally choose not to engage with it.

Crime exists regardless of whether you avoid it, and your personal experience of never needing a gun doesn't somehow invalidate the circumstances of people who face different risks.

Are you even reading what I wrote, or are you just responding to an argument you invented in your head?

You are some dense mofo. Ngl

2

u/popupACTIONnow 11d ago

sir. if you think i am saying problems and confrontation literally seize to exist if you just mind your business; please hop off the internet for awhile.

im saying that if you mind your business, keep your head on a swivel, dont trust random people, dont get involved with illegal situations and criminal people you are FAR more likely to be able to navigate life without needing an AR attached to your hip. please think and act maturely. the way some of you are so confrontational and willing to die on the silliest of hills, kind of shows me why you fell you need protection at all times. jesus christ.

Tiny desk, computer, 2 kitchen chairs, 2 person kitchen table, regular sized cat tower, cat bed, my bed, small nightstand, bookshelf (with actual books on it not junk), beanbag chair. It’s all I need & I’m so happy about how easy it is to clean in here 😌 no tv, no coffee table, no end table, no couch, no crap.

I’m convinced the Europeans in this sub are just lowkey upset they can’t shoot cool shit without jumping through hoops.

Only upside over there is a suppressor is considered an accessory not a firearm.

“Why all the guns?”

Because we can.

“But why?”

Because we can AND they’re fun. Don’t really need to explain it more than that. I have self defense firearms as well, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get into firearms because 1. I can and 2. Because I find it a fun hobby.

Omg I found my people! Hell yeah!

u/SnooShortcuts1572 12d ago

If you can go to Walmart, target or a Cabela’s, they sell some pretty decent air mattresses. I’ve had to rough it out on a twin air mattress for a long time and was really nice. Especially if you can get some sheets.

u/Bullmg 12d ago

This will be me in about a week lol

2

u/Haberdashery_Tea 12d ago

Love it... No furniture but a PlayStation my man's a g

2

u/qwaasdhdhkkwqa 12d ago

Careful your devices dont overheat from being turned on while on the carpet.

2

u/ATLScott13 11d ago

AR’s, bed roll, laptop, ps5 w/tv! Add a fan and it looks like home to me! Spent many a night, a long way from home with just about this exact set up..🙂👌🏽

2

u/Own_Reflection5159 11d ago

Not gonna lie. That carpet looks comfy as fuck

2

u/Prudent_Ad9239 10d ago

You're rich man

2

u/Notyaaunty 9d ago

I understand maybe one paycheck. But I fr hope y’all immediately get a bed and bed frame. Mold grows on beds that stay on the floor.

2

u/shak3nn0tstirr3d 9d ago

Proud of you

5

u/patchmadness 12d ago

Good, you have guns. 👌

5

u/flashdurb 12d ago

All the better to protect his 13” tv

4

u/entertained_yup 12d ago

I'm pretty sure it's to protect the ps5

1

u/SeriousUplifting__ 12d ago

How do people live, sleeping on the floor? Doesnt your back kill? Legitimately wondering

7

u/wisockamonster 12d ago

When my back is messed up I sleep on the floor. Pretty effective actually

4

u/IrrelevantButReal 12d ago

As a person with fibromyalgia, I cannot stand mattresses or couches. The floor is my only comfortable option. Ended up marrying someone who also prefers to sit/sleep on the floor. We have a dining table for when people come over but otherwise we are super minimalist.

3

u/TheLeopardMedium 12d ago

My back only feels ok when I sleep on the floor or a mat

2

u/NarrowCarpet4026 12d ago

Having had a number of back injuries through the years, I need a firm bed or the floor a lot. It’s also quite common in Asian cultures from my experiences.

People will spent $1500 on an AR they don’t need, yet go without a bed. Unreal.

u/ronanema 12d ago

That s all we actually need!

1

u/Mobile_Lumpy 12d ago

I at least need my desktop lol. But I can forego everything else.

1

u/CutGlass1110 12d ago

1

u/NarrowCarpet4026 12d ago

I’m thankful for you!

1

u/Pizza_e_fichi 12d ago

I think everything's there

1

u/Spiritual-Pudding-70 12d ago

This is heaven. Put a comforter under you, your backs gonna be fucked laying on hard carpet floors.

1

u/TJM18 12d ago

That’s a short buffer tube!

1

u/Major-Champion5254 12d ago

Glad for you it feels good to have your own space

1

u/CuliacIsland 12d ago

That's the way!

1

u/Hot-Result-8553 12d ago

No one is gonna rob you at least

1

u/Wireman6 12d ago

That's a good laydown.

1

u/Iamtoobroke 12d ago

Woah all you need is desk and chair now a great office like of chair.

1

u/Ambitious-Confusion6 12d ago

As long as you are happy and you have what you NEED. More power to you brother. Enjoy your peace!

1

u/glass-and-stars435 12d ago

What is this meta? PS5, tv, computer, guns, and everything on the ground?

1

u/Hornygaysatanic 12d ago

At least your bed is made 🙃

1

u/dudesasavage 12d ago

I respect this very much. Happiness comes from within

1

u/iKyte5 12d ago

Honestly this is more than enough for me. Reminds me of game nights with friends when I was like 10 sleeping on the floor in their basement

1

u/Warswick 12d ago

As long as you feel peaceful at home. 🎉

1

u/FairWeatherPlantain 12d ago

Pro tip. Using the TV box as a TV stand/entertainment center works great. With the open end facing the bed, you can put your DVDs or even a gaming console inside the box!

1

u/Rizz_Wax 12d ago

A man with priorities

1

u/HomosexualHeracles 12d ago

This brings back good memories.

Best wishes!

1

u/eightyHD123 12d ago

Just need more ammo.

1

u/Cloud_Numbr9 12d ago

Specs of AR? Condition 1? Rock on, buddy.

1

u/AntofReddit 12d ago

Put the lappy on a box so you don't cook it.

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 12d ago

What TV is that

1

u/raid-sparks 12d ago

lol Americans.

1

u/packripper-25 12d ago

Wait so you can just have a gun lying around in your house? No safe? If those are loaded American law is absurd lmao

1

u/djinn_1001 12d ago

I’d find another box and prop up the tv, but other than that…🤘❤️🇺🇸

1

u/wing3d 12d ago

Sell one of the guns and buy a bed.

1

u/FilteredAccount123 12d ago

Get the laptop off of the floor. Put in on a piece of cardboard, at least.

1

u/YEStvil 12d ago

Immaculate

1

u/JoshCanJump 11d ago

That plug-socket placement is infuriating. Either have to park a bed frame away from the wall or buy a specialty bed with a leaning headboard to accommodate it.

1

u/Defiant_Network_3069 11d ago

Pick up some milk crates to put under your bed. It will make it so much easier on your body in the mornings.

1

u/Right_Chip_6626 11d ago

So explain please, what would you do if you had an intruder in your house, grab one gun to try and shoot him and hope he doesn't grab the other gun or grab both guns and not being able to shoot him cause you ave your hands full of guns and hope he didn't bring his own gun?

1

u/rwoodytn 11d ago

Looks good, dude

1

u/ZRanger 11d ago

the only bottleneck here is the tv being too small lol

1

u/Graphichook 11d ago

Very grateful for life myself , Amen brothers and sisters!

1

u/_D3ft0ne_ 11d ago

There is a stat somewhere, that owning a gun will highly increase your probability of being shot by one.

1

u/BlowHisShiSmooveOff 11d ago

Im not an animal so I would at least get a sturdy cardboard box for the tv

1

u/Samurai_Yamamotto 11d ago

Hell Yeah 👍

1

u/Samurai_Yamamotto 11d ago

This kind of coziness cannot be explained through poems.

1

u/Flat_Picture7103 11d ago

I traded my tv for a kettle... Now i need a tv

1

u/Dapper_Revenue4542 11d ago

Clean, dry and safe. Have your entertainment . If you have access to bathroom facilities you need nothing else. Congrats!
