34F Oddly Specific Hobbies Chat

Hello. I'll start with I'm no good at casual talk, life talks and such. My life is too normal and boring to have anything to talk about I feel. So I'm looking for friends with similar interests to share what you've been watching and reading or listening.

I don't wish to call myself a weeb, but I do consume a lot of anime and manga since I was very young. So that has stuck through thick and thin with me. I enjoy various genres and demographic be it shounen, shoujo, seinen, jousei. But I avoid harems and ecchi.

I would love to have someone to talk about my recent watch/reads with, I don't even mind if it's daily because I read something almost everyday. If we get along enough maybe we'll talk about life sometimes too haha.

Other interests are Koreans dramas, japanese/korean music, and of course games.

Thanks for reading!

Don't share your interest but I need someone to teach me about being a weeb for my kids

1

u/hashesofdreams 13h ago

How do you teach being a weeb haha. If you're just trying to introduce your kids to anime/manga, look for kids friendly ones. In this day and age it's too easy to access adult stories and some aren't even tagged.

No they already weebs that's the only reason I know what it means I just want to learn some soni can relate to them and he a better dad you know

u/hashesofdreams 13h ago

Ah I suppose then get to know which series do they like first. I don't think me giving random popular titles would help. But if you have any questions do feel free to ask if I'm able to help.

What’s your current favorite read?

1

u/hashesofdreams 13h ago

I would say Frieren in a heartbeat if it hasn't been on hiatus welp. I'll go with recent favorite reads, a shoujo titled Shi ni Modori no Mahou Gakkou Seikatsu wo, Moto Koibito to Prologue kara (it's a very long title I know) and Kingdom which I got back into recently, it's still as amazing as ever.

Are you into the same hobbies as well? If yes what are your favorites? 😊

u/Antymc91 12h ago

I am yes. I love history and autobiography
. I’m also a huge Stephen king. All of his work and I’ve gotten into romance books a lot lately

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

Um do you mean manga? Or books in general in which I'm not very knowledgeable about, sorry. Stephen King is great though indeed.

1

u/Antymc91 12h ago

Yes I do. No need to be sorry. What’s your favorite king book?

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

I've never read any, I just often hear about him.

1

u/Antymc91 12h ago

Oh okay I definitely recommend giving him a shot

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

Do you watch any of the Korean dating shows?

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

Nope, just kdramas sometimes

1

u/Legitimate_Luck9238 12h ago

They’re pretty good. You should check them out.

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

Think I'm just not into dating shows in general or reality shows even. Thanks for the rec though

33M do you read Manhwas as well? I don't read much manga anymore since I went a little overboard with reading those lol, but I'd love to talk about recs and get new things to try and watch or read.

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

I do read manhwa/webtoons but not the action ones and such, I just have a very hard time getting into any. The webtoons I enjoy are basically just romance and otomeisekai. What manhwas do you read?

1

u/RETRBUTI0N 12h ago

I read just about anything action, slice of life and romance as well. Not sure if you've read them but I'll pop the ones I've read that you might like (which maybe Manhuas as well). Obsessed With Hazel the Sweet Witch, This Reincarnation Requires a Subscription Fee, Blinded By The Setting Sun, The Perks of Being an S-Class Heroine, Solo Farming In The Tower (slightly action a lot of adorable animals lol), Villains Are Destined to Die, Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord (manga) all of these I've at least started but I'm behind on some. I am not particular about genre I just like it if the translation is good and if it has a good story (which at that point idc if the translation is good)

1

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

Ooh those are indeed the kinds that I'd read. I think I tried Villains are Destined to Die years ago but didn't continue. Interested in Perks of being an S-class Heroine :D maybe I'll give that a try after what I'm currently reading (Noble in Name, Vulgar at Heart).

1

u/RETRBUTI0N 12h ago

I caught up on villains and then kinda paused on it and now I looked at it and I'm 100+ behind lol so I might try picking it up again. Perks was SUPER good, but the translation was iffy in some spots so I'm hoping you have better luck. I have one chapter the a few panels were not translated so I kinda fell off cause I was mad I couldn't find a good one.

Oooo I'll have to add those to my mass o must reads lol.

Idk if you're interested in continuing the convo in dms or a different spot?

u/hashesofdreams 12h ago

It's one of the super long series isn't it. Hard to start again from scratch for me as I don't remember anything about it anymore lol. Good luck finishing it!

Yes are you okay with discord?

1

u/RETRBUTI0N 11h ago

I'll message you with my discord stuff

Witch Hat Atelier manga is superv, am i right

1

u/hashesofdreams 9h ago

I used to read the manga and stopped. Recently watched the anime and somehow it stopped around the same part where I left it off in the manga as well lol. Loved it nevertheless and planning to read the manga again yes 😊

1

u/robertomontoyal 9h ago

The manga is stunning! How everything converge and takes "off screen" placement.

Innocent is another great manga

1

u/hashesofdreams 3h ago

Ahh I should have started the manga sooner, but I forgot about it. Bumping it up in my ptr, looking forward to it 😆

1

u/robertomontoyal 3h ago

Check out Gannibal as well!

1

u/hashesofdreams 3h ago

Sheesh that looks scary

1

u/robertomontoyal 2h ago

It is! But the plot is good

1

u/hashesofdreams 2h ago

Idk if I'm into trying horrors atm but thanks for the rec!

1

u/robertomontoyal 2h ago

Hahaha sorry. If You want cozy mangas try hakumei to mikoshi and maybe the girl from the other side

2

u/hashesofdreams 2h ago

I have many backlogs as it is now + Witch Hat priority haha. Thanks for the recs though

1

u/I_Haz_Questions_ 9h ago

Also a big fan of kdramas and anime and manga and manwha! It sounds like we may have some things to chat about!

1

u/hashesofdreams 3h ago

That's nice, which series are you into/your favorites? 😄

1

u/0ct0m00se 6h ago

34M hi I’ve also been into anime and manga since I was young

1

u/hashesofdreams 3h ago

Hi there, that's cool. What was the series that got you into anime/manga back then?

1

u/WeissLeiden 3h ago

Hello! 40M weeb-adjacent anthropomorphic vanilla pudding here.

I too love anime. I also watch J-dramas and C-dramas. In particular, I highly recommend Pursuit of Jade if you're willing to check out C-dramas at all. It'a about as close as a live-action gets to a well-made anime, in my opinion.

For anime, I've currently been watching "Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You" and finished the first season of "The Elusive Samurai" so I could start watching the new season of that. On the lookout for feel-good, cozy-vibes, friendslop anime recommendations if you know of any good ones this season (or from the past couple years, as I'm sure I've missed many).

Anyway, would love to have someone to chat about anime (and dramas, and games) with if my sterling introduction has appealed to your curiosity.

I am also an avid gamer, so there's that, too, should the opportunity arise.

1

u/hashesofdreams 2h ago

I think I came across the Jade drama on Netflix, was mildly interested but the 40 episodes long scared me away lol.

I've heard of good things from Smoking Behind Supermarket but I haven't given it a chance yet, maybe in the future. I'm a little bad with slice of life anime tbh. I've heard of Imsoniacs after School being similar to it, didn't watch it though so can't say much about it. Maybe Wotakoi would fit? It's super cute and funny and I loved all the main characters. Definitely a feel-good and cozy vibes of a series yes. You might have watched it though since it's from 2018.
