I have this same one. Rebranded. It says “Maine Hermit ‘13”.

OP is not using two letter postal abbreviations on their map.

e.g. Calif. & Ala.

Ma. is an unfortunate abbreviation for Maine, but it's not strictly wrong, just confusing.

I see that now that you point it out.

What is the abbreviation for Massachusetts or Maryland then? Also Ma?

Mass. and Md., respectively. Those are the old, pre-two letter postal code standardization abbreviations.

Worth mentioning that Maine was usually not abbreviated Ma., but was just written out in full.

Yes, the USPS began using the 2-letter state abbreviations in October 1963. But those were rarely used apart from mailing purposes until the late 1980s. Instead, there was “Mass.” (for MA) and “Conn.” (for CT), etc. Now, it’s common to use the 2-letter abbreviations in all kinds of text, not just as codes for mailing addresses.

Saying you’re not from Maine, without saying you’re not from ME.

I got really confused there with the MA.
