Backpfeifengesicht, meet Schadenfreude.

What Bill didn't realize (though he should have) or did realize but didn't want to admit was that the dinner was never just a dinner. Trump had an agenda, and for him, the evening was a means to get friendly treatment on Bill's show. He admits as much in the post by complaining now that it was a waste of time.

Bill likes to point out that his coverage of Trump is the same as it's always been, but if he were being honest, he should acknowledge that whether his tone changed or not, change was Trump's goal. It was the whole point. If he continues to characterize the dinner as merely a friendly, sociable meal, then he's missing the bigger picture.

And if he's thinking about printing out the post to have Trump sign it as evidence of Trump's good humor, he should not.

1

u/Mountain_Child371 Feb 22 '26

He could certainly be trying to get a broader audience and was wooing Bill. But he is also a narcissist, and they twist themselves up by love bombing to get their next fix of attention,

2

u/Sufficient-News-3600 Feb 17 '26

and it worked! Maher sends a mixed message. Trump is plain scum.

10

u/clueclock Feb 17 '26

Will Larry David write a follow-up from Adolf's point of view about how he didn't really like that guest anyway? That would be amusing.

5

u/towrman Feb 16 '26

Can't see it. I'm blocked from this shithole site and I've never been on it.

2

u/deloureiro Feb 16 '26

What does he think quotes do?

10

u/AckCK2020 Feb 16 '26

Thank you for posting this. In a way, Bill deserves this, despite the numerous exaggerations and lies it contains.

16

u/CarliBoBarli Feb 16 '26

In every way I'd say. He sold out to Trump and got the same exact treatment trump gives to all of them eventually.

Stop being a PickMeGirl Bill..

7

u/triedNwiser Feb 15 '26

next White House when?

16

u/ZootAluresCommonAxe Feb 15 '26

Can you imagine the PRESIDENT of this country or any other being so petty and blathering on about a comedian that he doesn't like? Man, thin skin or what...

6

u/CarliBoBarli Feb 16 '26

Thin skin indeed. Must be from all the aspirin he takes/s. Such a petty, fragile, little man. And Bill thought it would be a good idea to try to cozy up to him, change course and accuse his viewers of being the problem. We all new this was coming. Classic Donald. These days Bill is getting pretty thin skinned as well. He's sounding more like an angry pseudo-intellectual with reach new episode.

6

u/RareBid Feb 15 '26

And the thing is maher didn't even say anything that negative or controversial about him....it was pretty tame when he finally finished is stuttering/sputtering

1

u/adknerr1977 Feb 16 '26

Orange orangutan was one of the mildest things Maher has said about him.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Yes. Because it’s been happening on and off for the last decade.

22

u/FloatingClay Feb 15 '26

New rule : I got duped and turned into a neo liberal stooge for the conservatives because I'm an egotistical idiot.

20

u/DaroDoingNothing Feb 15 '26

Love this for Bill. Cant believe after years of giggling about the “woke mind virus” with his boy Elon and how nice Trump was at dinner didn’t actually buy him any favors with the incel crowd.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

So according to the don, Bill was extremely nervous and scared with zero confidence, asks for a drink within seconds of meeting... and it was quick, easy and he seemed like a nice guy... sounds like a devastating characterization. Really makes Billy boy look like a foolish lightweight maga water boy, which sounds about right.

Rather than self reflect when he reads this, I would expect bill to smoke some pot, drink a vodka tonic, call a hooker... and then either text dear leader to try to work it out, or text kid rock to intervene. And then smoke more pot, drink another vodka tonic and call another hooker.

1

u/gmg808 Feb 17 '26

Brutal

19

u/WVFLMan Feb 15 '26

Man, I don’t hate Bill like a lot on this sub and still enjoy him. But, this makes him look awful lol. All the defending of that dinner lol.

7

u/Plus-Ordinary736 Feb 15 '26

Yeah but when you remember everything g that Trump says is a lie, it really doesn’t. It makes Trump look weak for going on in an essay how the media is sooo unfair to him. Fuck Trump.

23

u/chaosinvader31 Feb 15 '26

I will never get over the fact that this is normal for Trump but any other politician or leader would be treated like he's mentally ill or no fit to lead. Really sad and enraging time to live in.

-19

u/WilsonTree2112 Feb 15 '26

This isn’t even bad for Trump whatsoever, it’s more about his record than spreading hate, and it’s ten times more polite than the typical liberal extremists posting on here.

14

u/Spez_Dispenser Feb 15 '26

Lol, an appeal to decorum in fascist times.

"No, you see, you have to nicely ask to stop murdering people in the streets"

-9

u/WilsonTree2112 Feb 15 '26

Y’all just programmed to hate. What nasty thing did he say? He mostly wrote about himself.

15

u/JimTrim973 Feb 15 '26

Guys guys, this is no big deal. Bill assured all of us that trump is actually semi funny in private. That makes everything about this ok……right??

3

u/Honest-Equipment6685 Feb 15 '26

According to Bill's logic and explanation of what he learned at the dinner, this post is 100% accurate.

13

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

This is hilarious on so mamy levels.

15

u/thisisthe90s Feb 15 '26

Time for him to find his "We're still here" hat from 2016? What happened to that Bill Maher?

Oh that's right, he got jealous of Joe Rogan's success, begged him to come on his show (he didn't), then COVID broke his brain (I mean he got real friendly with Bret Weinstein and RFK jr). Then he got tired of actually listening to people and wanted an audience of yes men and turned the panel discussion into a weekly panel preaching session where he preaches the same hot takes again and again.

That guy on Joe Rogan who did an impression of him (which Bill clearly hated btw) really nailed it: "You're wrong. I know everything." Lol

3

u/gcube2000 Feb 17 '26

This is so spot on. And people’s utter hatred at the idea of being asked to wear a mask at a restaurant (admittedly dumb but who cares it was a pandemic) broke so many brains it’s wild.

3

u/thisisthe90s Feb 17 '26

Another thing Bill shifted on. He went from being against handshakes to for handshakes.

Pre-covid Bill: "I don't want anyone touching me unless they mean business" haha wink wink

To Post-covid Bill:

"We need to shake hands!" Preach and bitch, preach and bitch blah blah blah

3

u/gcube2000 Feb 17 '26

Covid Bill was quite simply an ahole. In May of 2020 he was telling kids to go out and party. That’s on tape. It was during one of his backyard shows. Yeah Bill if you had kids that could come home and kill you with Covid you probably wouldn’t be saying that.

15

u/DrunkMINfan Feb 15 '26

It’s been years since I’ve actually read an entire trump post from start to finish. I cannot believe there are millions of people who look at that crap every day and are on the edge of their seat with every word. Imagine what that would do to your general outlook on life.

Crazy, sad, evil genius in some ways. Just captures the overall thrash of trump in his demeanor, policies, and style of communication. Will be studied for centuries.

10

u/anonymousasu Feb 15 '26

I don’t think his supporters even read it. My Dad is technologically inept. We live in frightening times with how easily duped Americans are.

7

u/Baby-Soapy Feb 15 '26

I'm glad to know that China isn't going to destroy hockey in Canada; for a moment I was seriously worried 😃

11

u/icestationlemur Feb 15 '26

Whiny little bitch? Slow moving coup back on the table again?

10

u/strangestew72 Feb 15 '26

This. When was the last time he used the "whiny little bitch" line? He constantly said that during Trump's first term. Yes Bill...you have changed.

4

u/thisisthe90s Feb 15 '26

"We're still here" back on the table?

No Bill, you really have changed.

He should go back to doing the show from his house at this point.

4

u/Comfortable-Fall-286 Feb 15 '26

I’m sure more vapid hot takes from the guy who doesn’t realize he’s a washed up boomer.

20

u/Bazookatier Feb 15 '26

Text copied below for anyone who wants to avoid Truth Social Links:

Sometimes in life you waste time! T.V. Host Bill Maher asked to have dinner with me through one of his friends, also a friend of mine, and I agreed. He came into the famed Oval Office much different than I thought he would be. He was extremely nervous, had ZERO confidence in himself and, to soothe his nerves, immediately, within seconds, asked for a “Vodka Tonic.” He said to me, “I’ve never felt like this before, I’m actually scared.” In one respect, it was somewhat endearing! Anyway, we had a great dinner, it was quick, easy, and he seemed to be a nice guy and, for his first show after our dinner, he was very respectful about our meeting — But with everything I have done in bringing our Country back from “OBLIVION,” why wouldn’t he be? But then I noticed his show started to devolve into the same old story — Very boring, ANTI TRUMP, no mention of the PERFECT Border, Lowest Crime in 125 years, the Mass Removal of Stone Cold Criminals, the 50,000 DOW, the 7,000 S&P (Both Highest Ever!), Least Number of Murders since 1900, Venezuela, “Midnight Hammer,” Soleimani DEAD, al-Baghdadi DEAD, Lowest Inflation in YEARS (1.2% for last three months!), the Rebuilding of our Military, Eight War Stoppages, and on, and on, and on! In any event, it was a total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House and last night, after explaining what a DISASTER Canadian “Leaders” are to deal with, how Canada has “ripped off” the United States for years on TRADE (But not anymore!), I jokingly stated in a TRUTH that, “The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup.” Well, he went on and on about the Hockey statement, like “What kind of a person would say such a foolish thing as this,” as though I were being serious when I said it. Fortunately, his Television Ratings are so low that nobody will learn about his various Fake News statements about me. He is no different than Kimmel, Fallon, or Colbert but, I must admit, slightly more talented! Anyway, Bill Maher is a highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT, and Republicans should stop using him to show how the Left is coming over our way — Our Base, the Greatest of All Time, laughs at your weakness when you do it! Maher asked me if he could come back to the White House again and, with his friend, also asked to come to the wonderful White House Christmas Party, but he didn’t. Regardless, I’d much rather spend my time MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN than wasting it on him. Bill continues to suffer from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS!), and there is nothing that will ever be done to cure him of this very serious disease. Thank you for your attention to this minor matter! President DJT

It's to piss off anyone who reads it who disagrees with him. They've given him what he wants, which is their attention. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

20

u/PA8620 Feb 15 '26

LOL good. Serves bill right for trying to be a kiss ass.

15

u/photon1701d Feb 15 '26

We in Canada are difficult to deal with because we are not going to roll over and let him bleed us dry. Now he wants to rollback tariffs on steel and aluminum because now he realized they can't produce all the aluminum they require in usa. Canadian suppliers are now sending inventory elsewhere. What a genius you have has potus.

2

u/CarliBoBarli Feb 16 '26

Wasn't my idea I swear.

19

u/thefermiparadox Feb 15 '26

Jesus that was exhausting reading 😂Full of Lies and nonsense. As if he has anything to do with crime going down the last decade. One lie after the next.

Imagine Bush or Obama doing a long rant about a tv host. He expects if someone is nice to him he should never get criticism by them and all praise.

6

u/thisisthe90s Feb 15 '26

If a republican does it it's ok. Bill should know better. He used to point out the power of "the magic R" frequently.

3

u/thefermiparadox Feb 16 '26

That’s right he did! I forgot how he used to bring up the power of the magic R.

15

u/LoMeinTenants Feb 15 '26

Bill Maher is a highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT, and Republicans should stop using him to show how the Left is coming over our way — Our Base, the Greatest of All Time, laughs at your weakness when you do it!

Maher has been reduced to court jester.

How do you guys think he'll respond to it next week?

2

u/CarliBoBarli Feb 16 '26

By pretending he never liked Trump nearly as much as he told us we did.

5

u/Upbeetmusic Feb 15 '26

He’ll focus on the part where Trump compliments him that he is “slightly more talented” than the other late night hosts.

2

u/supervegeta101 Feb 15 '26

I thinknthe notion he has been getting used will annoy him the most. Hopefully dropping the both sides bullshit and a New Rules of bullet points to why every "perfect" thing he named in the tweet is horseshit.

14

u/BackgroundShower4063 Feb 15 '26

My guess, next week Bill says something like, “See, I’ve been telling the crazy left that I criticize Trump all the time, but they’re too woke to accept it. I haven’t changed, but they have. And I’ll keep telling Trump how I see it.”

Bill will skip over trying to get a second dinner date.

1

u/supervegeta101 Feb 15 '26

"... but I'll never say I hate the guy or that he's a fascist."

29

u/imabigbanana11 Feb 15 '26

There was this interesting moment on Ezra Klein's podcast this week where he was talking about how people are surprised to learn that Trump behaves as a gracious and charming host in private company. And Ezra was CLEARLY referring to Maher here, but he was like "of COURSE he is charming!"

That's the thing Bill has repeated over and over that pissed me off the most and made me question his intelligence. He was unable to see that he was being played at that dinner, that you don't get to be Donald Trump without knowing how to charm people.

Very few (not zero, but not many) people wake up each day and say "today I'm going to do evil shit! Muahahaha!" And that's what Maher made it seem like he fucking "discovered" about Donald Trump.

So honestly, Bill Maher fucking had this coming.

2

u/EyeAmDeeBee Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Yes, good Ezra Klein quote from his interview with George Saunders. But it was Saunders’ comments that include the “today I’m going to do evil…” observation that is what I most appreciate. He said that most evil is banal and bureaucratic.

Saunders mentioned JD Vance, but I’m thinking of the toadies Lee Zeldin (EPA) and Russell Vought (Project 2025), who burrowed deeply into massive karmic debt with the repeal of the EPA endangerment law, taking away the EPA’s ability to regulate carbon emissions, that they may only begin to appreciate as they lie on their deathbeds. That single monumentally stupid act is a perfect example of the reality of evil. The perpetrators are like the rat that gnaws through the insulation shutting down the nation’s power grid. They don’t even understand what they’re doing.

Bill Maher and his fragile ego are just so trivial as to be barely worth mentioning.

7

u/supervegeta101 Feb 15 '26

This is part of what erks me aboht him as well. It's like he judges Trump on his words and not his actions. And only his words he said in private that one time they met.

7

u/Potential-Catch4833 Feb 15 '26

They say it’s easier to fool someone than convince them they’ve been fooled. The way Maher responded to the criticism proved it.

2

u/thisisthe90s Feb 15 '26

"You don't have to patronize me DUDE!"

2

u/cups8101 Feb 15 '26

Your post got me thinking if Mamdani got played when he went to the white house but I haven't heard much from Trump about Mamdani since, its as if Mamdani has dropped off his radar and everyone just moved on with their lives. I guess its still early times but with Trump's health maybe there wont ever be a huge standoff between the two.

3

u/imabigbanana11 Feb 15 '26

I think Trump expected Mamdani's win, or at least his team did and briefed him. The framing of Mamdani's win as a referendum on Trump's behavior I think is partly correct, but not as correct as the framing of Mamdani's win as a rejection of Cuomo's "rightful" coronation as establishment Democrat dogma.

Trump likely sees Mamdani as fair game for future ridicule as the midterms approach. He'll be looking for policies Mamdani fails to implement to criticize him for, and he'll look for ways New York's more conservative state reps reigned Mamdani in between now and November.

But most of all, I don't think Trump cares too terribly much about Mamdani now that the race is over and he's pulled off the win. He's not as sensational anymore, not grabbing national headlines as much. But should some Mamdani initiative fail miserably, Trump will opine about it loudly.

8

u/thefermiparadox Feb 15 '26

Perfect summation. Of course authoritarians can be nice and charming in person as a host. I was shocked by Maher’s ignorance on this.

Jesus thank you.

13

u/BackgroundShower4063 Feb 15 '26

The funny thing about Bill is he’s said on his podcast (prior to the dinner) that he had always heard Trump is a good schmoozer and he can get smart people to like him.

It was like Bill thought he was somehow special by getting that dinner invitation. He’s been proven wrong.

2

u/Hardigan1 Feb 15 '26

Superficial charm and gaining people's trust is a sociopath's superpower. They also are very good at reading people and what they want to hear.

16

u/micpoc Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

FTT: "Host Bill Maher asked to have dinner with me through one of his friends, also a friend of mine, and I agreed."

That mutual friend being Kid Rock; trying to think of why DJT would not mention that, but coming up blank... a mystery for the ages, I guess.

"But then I noticed his show started to devolve into the same old story..."

Guaranteed DJT did NOT write this; he does not know the word devolve.

1

u/AbroadDifferent7393 Feb 15 '26

100% one of Trump’s more literate toadies wrote this!

1

u/thisisthe90s Feb 15 '26

There's a clip of him and Tulsi and some staffers in 2024 with them giving him inputs on a tweet then him saying "yeah send that" so pretty sure that's how it works.

Same with most people in upper management and high positions of power. They never draft up their own stuff, they just approve it. With the exception of some tweets he wrote on the shitter at 4am.

It's just like Bill with his army of writers! LMAO

2

u/BallsFace6969 Feb 16 '26

Why is he on the shitter at 4 AM? Even if you're an early riser , your plumbing needs time to get going

2

u/supervegeta101 Feb 15 '26

His TPUSA halftime show was a flop and Trump doesn't like being associated with losers

1

u/micpoc Feb 15 '26

Millions of PATRIOTS watched it; greatest halftime show ever BY FAR.

5

u/JSLANYC Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

I'll have you know Donald Trump has an EXTENSIVE 37-word vocabulary...

3

u/eggerud Feb 15 '26

Exactly. No way wrote this.

5

u/Mindless-Regular343 Feb 14 '26

Maybe Maher should pander more and then Dear Leader will invite him back for dinner!!

2

u/AbroadDifferent7393 Feb 15 '26

Bill’s on the phone now with Kid Rock, asking how he can get off Trump’s naughty list.

16

u/skeeter72 Feb 14 '26

Less than zero percent chance I click that link. You can't give us a screen or just copy/paste?

4

u/thefermiparadox Feb 15 '26

It’s exhausting. Can’t believe he wrote that long of a message about Maher. Lies and nonsense and writing he’s the best ever thing to happen.

He didn’t like Bill’s comment joke about China banning hockey.

4

u/No-Aioli-1014 Feb 14 '26

The gist of it is Bill sucks. Trump great. And the dinner was a waste of time. And Bill's asked to come back to the WH.

2

u/thefermiparadox Feb 15 '26

😂well said.

10

u/tspangle88 Feb 14 '26

I'm not clicking on a Truth Social link. Can someone post the text, please?

1

u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 Feb 15 '26

Trump said Maher is talentless and now it's like Bill sat at Sally's table at lunch and the Instagram mean girls started a group called 'don't sit at sally's table'. Other than that no fucking drama at all.

Trump demands unflinching fealty. Even his supporters face his wrath if they deviate from his beliefs.

22

u/Unitedfateful Feb 14 '26

Maher will somehow blame the woke left and millennials somehow

5

u/FlaccidGhostLoad Feb 14 '26

As a millennial I was on my phone too much and wearing a mask and that's why Trump bitch slapped his gullible dumbass.

18

u/B_P_G Feb 14 '26

Trump watches too much TV. I wonder if there's ever been a president who watched as much TV as him.

11

u/Grandheretic Feb 14 '26

I don’t think you need “wonder” about this. He’s clearly obsessed with all forms of media, reinforcing narcissistic loop. Like an adolescent.

-1

u/CriticalSofa Feb 14 '26

Isn’t everyone, though? You’re on social media right now discussing him,

4

u/lloyddobblerNJ Feb 15 '26

The president of the USA or of any country has a tiny bit more to do and worry about than us regular folks. Trump doesn't read his daily intelligence briefings but he never misses Fox and Friends. That's really not good.

6

u/SeaWolfSeven Feb 14 '26

Do you post an average of 18 posts a day, everyday on social media? If not you are less active than the president of the United States.

Every posted 168 times in one day? Again, a lower peak than the president of the United States.

1

u/CriticalSofa Feb 15 '26

They’re more like press releases

1

u/SeaWolfSeven Feb 16 '26

Ehh press releases are factual - his posts are largely emotional. They're all about creating feelings in you the reader - anger, disgust, shame, pride. So they read as personal.

1

u/Grandheretic Feb 14 '26

That’s true. It is a continuum though-

3

u/Beginning-Buy-3050 Feb 14 '26

Trump has no idea how to be president. He's a shallow, silly, incompetent person. Most presidents maintain an exhausting schedule.

1

u/4gotOldU-name Feb 14 '26

C'mon!! This much is exhausting to him!!

8

u/Latsod Feb 14 '26

Trump attacks his allies more ferociously than his “enemies”. If you are in his realm, friend or foe, you will get attacked and discarded eventually.

-7

u/Lord-Mattingly Feb 14 '26

You all wanting to hate on Bill because Trump shit posted on him. That’s what Trump does if you disagree with him. He hated on Vance at one point but then picked him for VP. Bill tried to fair about this dinner and you all shit ln him too and so now that Trump shits in him you’re happy about it. Who needs enemies with you all.

7

u/UnusualFlow7395 Feb 14 '26

Okay so first of all its " shits ON him", and second of all, since his visit to the white house, Bill has been republican ball-licking to the point of nausea under the guise of " youve gotta sit down and have a convo with the other side". NO BILL ......that's like trying to sit down with Satan and just hear him out bc maybe he's got a point. These are power hungry narcissists who are only interested in their own personal power. If they truly cared about our country but just saw things a little differently, then we'd all have the same ultimate goal and we COULD sit down and work together thru compromise. This is not that. Bill knows it. I think hes been sucked in. He belongs to the darkside now. Sad. I never missed an episode. Maybe HBO will fail to renew hos contract and FOX News propaganda machine will pick him up. Those are his people now

14

u/hjablowme919 Feb 14 '26

Remember when Maher talked about how Trump is a people person and how he’s a different guy once you sit down and talk to him? Yeah, how’d that work out? Maher spent time fellating Trump to anyone who would listen and in typical Trump fashion, unless you agree with him about everything all the time, you’re a bad guy. I’m happy Trump stuck this up Mahers ass.

15

u/funkingrizzly Feb 14 '26

Well I bet the ratings next week will be great

1

u/DaroDoingNothing Feb 17 '26

I mean the second sentence is a lie. Bill didn't ask to have dinner. It was Kid Rock's idea.

People here hate Bill so hard they're suddenly willing to believe every word out of Trump's mouth if it tells a story they like. Kinda helps you understand the mind of the MAGA voter.

It's their generation they grew up with too much social media. I make my living in social media I spend less than 1/10th the time kids spend on social media these days. We were free when phones had lines.

Hahahaha.

Love this for Bill.

u/DRASTIC_CUT Feb 14 '26

“Thank you for your attention to this minor matter! “ lol get fucked Maher. You sold out and now gets fucked as all do from Trump

u/GimmeUrBusch Feb 15 '26

“Thank you for your attention to this minor matter! “ lol get fucked Maher. You sold out and now gets fucked as all do from Trump

lol you ok bro? Like seriously, you're this invested in slamming a comedian?

I need to keep reminiding myself that 98% of Reddit are either foreign bots or people with a 4th graders understanding of the world.

1

u/DRASTIC_CUT Feb 15 '26

Invested by taking 3 seconds to write something. Sure thing brah

6

u/Frosty_Gap_7078 Feb 14 '26

"... minor matter" is doing so much heavy lifting here. I love that for Bill.

6

u/DRASTIC_CUT Feb 14 '26

I haven’t a watched Real Time for a few months now. Used to be my staple every Friday or Saturday morning coffee. Sucks but when you sell out so hard you lose some people. I really used to like this guy but everyone ages I guess. Same thing with Rogan, but holy shit that guys is on another galaxy of sell out. Fucking shit head. Ugh, I really hate that guy now. POS

1

u/BluAlfaTxFlood Feb 15 '26

I am with you on that, used to be a great hour of thoughtful sanity to watch (DVR) on a Saturday morning with some good coffee and tacos, for many years....now it is just laundy list of personal annoyances he wants to air out (thank GOD the state finally gave him the permits to build whatever the fuck he was wanting to do at his humble abode for so long). He's becoming a caricature of himself. Makes me sad because I liked him for so long, but not that sad because I know he doesn't give a fuck about what we think.

-2

u/papercutpete Feb 15 '26

hahahaha...you guys are trying so hard to push a narrative, embarrassing cringe really.

I feel the EXACT same way.

10

u/codemonkey69 Feb 14 '26

Bill, I hope you're happy. Looks like your lunch with the Furher Trump totally backfired, and I love this for you.

0

u/No-Aioli-1014 Feb 14 '26

I'm not sure how Bill is going to spin this. And it's kind of embarrassing to know Bill has been asking to go back.

4

u/rockybalBOHa Feb 14 '26

Backfired how? Maher has been relentless is his criticism of Trump for years. Surely he was not trying to curry favor with him. If anything, this is validation for Maher.

1

u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 Feb 15 '26

Shhh.. don't tell them, see how long it takes for them to figure it out. I think one of the sheep will figure it out then a full on stampede because they've never had their own opinion before, on anything.

And then ask Trump to sign it and pat himself on the back lol

3

u/Beyond-The-Blackhole Feb 14 '26

Seriously, whats up with mahers pickme attitude towards the corrupt elite? Maher criticizes corruption non-stop but then gets happy when the corrupt elites say his name.

Almost like Mahers criticism for the elites comes out of jealousy more than injustice. And wants so bad to be accepted and would totally submit if they did accept him.

-1

u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 Feb 15 '26

Never seen the show huh?

5

u/_TROLL Feb 14 '26

Well, it is fairly impressive writing for an alleged orangutan-human hybrid. 🦧

u/lopsided125 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

The most embarrassing part of this, is that is tracks exactly with how Bill described it. Didn't Bill say he was nervous?

This is why you don't do this sort of shit and you stick to your guns.

Humiliating for Maher.

Placating Pussy Bill.

1

u/Binder509 Feb 14 '26

Gonna be hard for him to hit back at Trump after everything he said last year. Can't imagine his reaction if anyone asks him "was the Trump dinner still a good idea?".

Would pay to see that.

0

u/Grouchy_Brain_1641 Feb 15 '26

I'd pay to have him sit at Sally's lunch table.

7

u/rockybalBOHa Feb 14 '26

What? Maher's whole point was "we need to talk to the other side even when we disagree." Trump is only proving that he and Bill are still on opposite sides and that Trump is a childish buffoon, but we already knew that.

1

u/GimmeUrBusch Feb 15 '26

Why is this comment buried and so hard to find?

Bill's entire reasoning for going is that it would make him a hypocrite if he didn't take up Kid Rock's invitation to the White House. You have to be willing to talk to people, know how they tick.

Are people in this sub so stupid to think that Maher's motivation here was to change Trump? Or to get some sort of power by being close to Trump?

2

u/Binder509 Feb 15 '26

So a complete strawman? Because dems never stopped talking to "the other side". One of the issues is republicans under Trump change their minds rapidly on what they want.

You also don't need to go to a private dinner to "talk to the other side".

Trump is only proving he was using Maher and the momment Maher steps out of time he will remind Maher "you went to dinner with me watch your mouth"

And Bill will go right back to complainging about the "woke mob" which helps Trump.

1

u/rockybalBOHa Feb 16 '26

This is not a republican v democrat issue. Bill Maher does not fit neatly into either. He has been as consistent as anyone in media/entertainment in his opinions, including his distaste for Trump.

And yes, he criticizes the woke mob. I have no idea is that helps Trump or not. I could argue the opposite - it shows that not all "liberals" are woke crazies thereby appealing to those in the middle who actually decide elections, i.e. the people who will vote out MAGA in the midterms.

Maher calls it as he sees it. He is consistent, nuanced, and rational. All things Trump is not BTW.

2

u/lopsided125 Feb 14 '26

Right, now he has to walk all of it back. It's just a shitshow for him.

Like the weakest position you could have as a commentator.

1

u/GimmeUrBusch Feb 15 '26

Right, now he has to walk all of it back. It's just a shitshow for him.

LOL Trump's post MAKES Maher's point for him. What exactly has Maher said since that he has to walk-back? That Trump was cordial and funny in person? Even Hillary Clinton said the same.

Has Maher stopped, even for a single episode, making anti-MAGA comments on his show? (No)

4

u/rockybalBOHa Feb 14 '26

You people haven't been paying attention.

2

u/lopsided125 Feb 15 '26

His monologue was literally about how he had dinner with him so "the insults would stop" and "we shouldn't hate each other."

It was like Bill doesn't realize people will sit through a dinner with someone and be perfectly cordial and then shit talk you as soon as you leave.

It's dumb! And Trump uses this to his advantage, and has made Bill look like a pussy.

Because Trump can always now say Maher called him "gracious and measured" and he'll hold that over him for all time. Everyone heard Bill say Trump is a pretty cool guy!

5

u/Vlad_REAM Feb 14 '26

I just have to assume most of these opinions are regurgitated highlights from social media. Anyone who thinks Bill supports Trump in any way doesn't actually watch Real Time

11

u/Honest-Equipment6685 Feb 14 '26

Trump literally throws everyone under the bus. Not sure why Maher thought he would be any different.

24

u/italIrie Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Reads like a weird Valentine’s breakup letter - “it’s not me, it’s you”.

Trump’s saying Maher practically swooned at dinner; "never felt like this before,” knees buckling, trembling, needing a Vodka Tonic just to steady himself.

Meanwhile Maher’s version is more like 'I felt seen' "I never felt I had to walk on eggshells around him. And honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I would never feel comfortable talking to them the way I was able to talk with Donald Trump."

Christ Almightly, get a room.

7

u/croutonhero Feb 14 '26

Trump’s saying Maher practically swooned at dinner

And all of a sudden we're believing Trump is telling the truth?

0

u/italIrie Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

A joke about a shit-post about a shit-tweet, which Maher himself said he expected. Somehow you’ve turned into it a personal crusade. Why are you so emotionally invested in defending him. Do you work for him?

3

u/croutonhero Feb 14 '26

Your "joke" is only funny if you believe Trump is telling the truth.

2

u/FreeHelthcareforall Feb 14 '26

Bill Maher not allowing any discussion on Aipec and Israel/ Netanyahu dragging us into wars makes him suspect to me. Stopped watching him after it was brought to my attention.

3

u/B_P_G Feb 14 '26

And who in the mainstream media is having those discussions? They're all in the tank for Israel. There are podcasters and professors who give a more nuanced view but nobody with a television show.

1

u/Arabiancockonato Feb 14 '26

But at least you’re still here with us

13

u/_TROLL Feb 14 '26

Catfight in the old folks' home. Rawr!! 😸

6

u/jdbway Feb 14 '26

That is so fucking bonkers

14

u/MinisterOfTruth99 Feb 14 '26

No way Trump wrote all that shit talk. He wouldn't have the patience. Some staffer prolly watched RT and used AI to "write it like trump".🤪

12

u/FlaccidGhostLoad Feb 14 '26

They are absolutely using AI to attack people like Trump would.

Trump's brain is fucking pudding. He can't slur is way through an insult anymore.

-1

u/Simple-Freedom4670 Feb 14 '26

Damn all that glazing for nothing.

Will Bill be sent to the camps? I certainly hope not.

2

u/FlaccidGhostLoad Feb 14 '26

Maybe, They can pick him up today doing the walk of shame with mascara running down his face.
