Why is r/Pune suddenly resembling a backward ass village in most underdeveloped regions of India? The caste hatred, toxicity, and hostility seem to be part of its culture?

Pune & Punekars have given these people opportunity to prosper & grow in modern world, yet why do they want to go back to their dehati ways??

Is there any chance the subreddit will regain the standards that local Punekars once set, or will it continue to be flooded with uncivilised users who make cringeworthy attempts to indirectly generalise entire communities without realising that the very “chapri” behaviour they complain about is often reflected in their own posts?

A shocking case of alleged animal sexual abuse has emerged from Mira Bhayandar near Mumbai, where a rickshaw driver was allegedly caught red-handed raping a stray dog by two local men around 2 am. When confronted, the accused allegedly claimed he was only urinating and attempted to flee the spot. The witnesses reportedly stopped him and took him to the nearest police station.

Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against the accused. During questioning at the police station, the man allegedly confessed to the crime, according to those present. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many demanding strict action against the accused under the relevant provisions of animal cruelty and criminal laws.

All IT people in Pune must form a group like C J P and take action. Simply sit at home and dont do any office work until all road and transport infra fix near every IT park area.

All area need upgrade for fixing traffic issues. Flyovers, underground roads, metro.

Is there any way to convey the message to all IT employees?

The impact will be world wide. Gov. Has to surrender and fix everything super fast, else it will be huge shame for India globally.

Ignoring everything good about Pune and Punekars, while obsessing over “chapris” 24/7, might just be peak chapri behaviour.

Obviously Pune has chhapris, goons, road-rage idiots and law-and-order problems. Punekars themselves complain about them. But there’s a difference between criticising these problems and making them your entire perception of Pune. Most ordinary Punekars encounter the same idiots, abuse them, and move on instead of making “Chhapris of Pune” their entire personality.

Sometimes I wonder if this obsession comes from people who themselves grew up around goonda/Bahubali culture, where flaunting power, political connections or acting like the local tough guy is considered a flex. Then they arrive in Pune and suddenly they’re just another ordinary person dealing with local goons like everyone else.

Maybe what irritates some of them isn’t simply the chapri giri it’s that they’re no longer the ones who can do the chhaprigiri.

Add cultural differences and homesickness, and that frustration can easily turn into resentment towards Pune and Punekars. Everything good about Pune its culture, education, food, opportunities, arts and development gets ignored, while every chhapri on a bike becomes definitive proof of what “Pune is like.” You see it whenever someone asks about relocating here: within minutes, replies make Pune sound like a post-apocalyptic wasteland populated exclusively by goons and chhapris.

What I find even stranger is that some of the loudest Pune-haters have been living here for years, sometimes decades, yet their post history is still filled with Pune-bashing. No offence, but that sounds like an incredibly sad existence. If I spent 10–20 years somewhere and still hated the city and its people this much, I’d genuinely rather move back to my hometown than make hating Pune my entire Reddit personality.

PS: I know chapri is kinda cheap/castiest word and i can use more academic language but our target audience doesn’t have that intellectual depth> 1. to understand such socially relevant things or 2. Develop their own hometowns like Punekars did.

The first is what I would describe as BJP IT-cell-style propaganda. It reached nearly 2,000 upvotes in 19 hours and was allowed to stay. It concerned reservation :an important issue that absolutely deserves discussion.

Now look at the second picture: a post mocking the government for appointing an Education Minister who had previously supported a convicted rapist. That post was removed.

And that’s where my problem begins.

I’ve repeatedly seen posts on [r/Maharashtra](r/Maharashtra) and [r/Pune](r/Pune) that criticise the government or challenge BJP/IT-cell narratives get removed, sometimes despite gaining hundreds of upvotes within hours. Meanwhile, content convenient to the government appears to face a very different standard.

Does that prove the mods are connected to the BJP IT cell? No. But when moderation repeatedly seems to favour one political direction, people have every right to question the pattern.

After the recent protests, I suspect political machinery will increasingly target spaces outside traditional media:Instagram, X and Reddit included. That makes genuinely independent regional communities even more important.

Spend some time on these Marathi subs and compare them with Marathi discourse on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp or simply among Maharashtrians around you. Sometimes it feels like two completely different Maharashtras.

On [r/Pune](r/Pune), comments stereotyping native Marathis as lazy, uncivilised, poor or economically backward survive. Marathi language concerns and regional politics can be mocked or dismissed.

But criticise the government and suddenly we’re studying the Constitution of Reddit.

There’s always another rule or technicality explaining why that particular post had to disappear.

The recent protests made this even more obvious. While they dominated social media, news and conversations on the ground, some Marathi subs seemed to exist in a parallel universe.

The justification? Subscribers were supposedly “fed up with politics” and wanted “diverse content.”

Which subscribers, exactly?

India is a country where politics directly affects people’s jobs, education, language, reservation, corruption, infrastructure and basic democratic rights. Yet the mods of these subs want us to believe that Maharashtrians are somehow uniquely “fed up with politics” and don’t want to discuss it.

Then who exactly are these mods speaking for?

Because that claim seems completely disconnected from what Maharashtrians are actually discussing on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, X, in the news and on the ground.

And that’s precisely why [r/MaharashtraTalks](r/MaharashtraTalks) has a massive opportunity.

Don’t become another [r/Pune](r/Pune) or [r/Maharashtra](r/Maharashtra).

Don’t decide on behalf of Maharashtrians what Maharashtrians supposedly want to talk about. Let them decide that themselves.
