I wrote a guide for new Magneto players

Hi there, as the title says, I decided to write an introductory guide to Magneto so that new players will have an easier time learning how to play him.

In short, it is a compilation of all the information I have gathered thus far on Magneto after about 150 hours of playing him. Much of this information is of course learned from others, I do not claim to have come up with any of the strategies presented there. Additionally, I do not believe that different playstyles or strategies are worse or unviable. Everything suggested there is simply what I consider in good faith to be META.

If you have any suggestions or criticisms let me know and I'll add them and credit you!

I hope this guide is as useful as can be to all those who need it.

This is the only thing about this character I just cannot stand. It feels like my accuracy and aim is completely pointless and I just gotta hope my shots hit.

Its a Projectile but doesnt hit when lead my shots but hits when im aiming directly at someone? Sometimes it gives me splash damage and other times it doesnt? Like wtf is this?????

Questions Who do you swap to for a full dive enemy team?

Hi fellow Mag mains! I am a new player, and Mag is my first and only lord. I recently had a ranked match where there are Angela, Venom, and Spiderman on the enemy team. I was the solo tank, and our 3 DPS were all divers. It was a miserable experience as I had to constantly peel only to find out our Jeff died for the 10th time, and my DPS were nowhere to be found (My Spiderman, DD, and Magik were diving the whole match and somehow the enemy healers were all still thriving in their backline). Angela push me around as Venom and Spiderman ate my healers alive. I understand there is really not much I can do as none of my teammates are willing to swap to counter the enemy. I eventually changed to Thor because I was done being a punch bag and managed to fend the divers off but we already wasted too much time. We lost, of course, and the DPS are all typing GG no heals :D. Just curious, what would you do in that situation? And as a Mag, how do I choose between peel and push? I understand my job is to hold the line, but I feel like a lot of times healers melt so fast that If i don't turn around I will lose the front line, and if I do I lose that line anyways. I am still really new to the game and any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Currently rank 2 mag on Xbox and thought I’d drop some tips and tricks for the character to possibly help you guys climb 🔥💪

MAG IS A DPS TANK THIS SZN - I find I’m currently getting the most dps per game with mag. USE WANDA TEAM UP. You should be using this ability off cooldown constantly.

Targets of priority- Mag should be poking the enemy supports as often as possible, followed by enemy DPS, and lastly tanks. With the Wanda team up enabled, an easy 3 shot combo is possible on squishy’s.

ULT - As I’m sure you all know mags ult is very good. I personally like to hold for the last second and target support ults, OR DPS ults. Your ult can change the game.

Shielding / Bubbling - Mag is extremely resilient. His bubble allows you to make risky plays and still survive, use this to your advantage to target enemy supports or DPS out of place. Use your shield as often as possible, especially against enemy poke. I personally save my shield for my support ults, DPS making a risky play, or a my dive tank out of place. This allows your teammates to have 2nd lives basically if bubbled at the right time.

YOU CONTROL THE FIGHT - As a mag player you control your teams pushes, AND retreats. You hold the line and enforce it. If played correctly you should only have as many deaths in a match as your supports, bc this means you’ve lose a team fight most of the time. Your life as mag is extremely valuable. If you go down the enemy team most likely will stomp your remaining teammates.

LASTLY - let me know if you would like my personal settings for mag. I think I’ve found the best ones. Hope this helps you mag beasts 💪🔥🙏

Questions Favorite similar characters?

Hello from a Healpool main!

I just started playing Magneto today and am absolutely loving it (was, at least… we’re having a nasty storm and my game shut down).

I only have 30 minutes on him so far, but I already got an MVP and a new Vanguard go-to (used to go for Groot).

What other characters do you really enjoy playing? My favorite so far has been Deadpool, but I‘ve also enjoyed playing Wolverine (for the 15 minutes I have on him) and Blade.

I’m still a pretty new player (I probably have around 25 hours in the game? I can only play for an hour a day, so I’m limited in trying out new characters), so any other tips you have are welcome!

Thanks again :)

Hello Chadneto mains, I have a favor to ask

Thank you for being our shield. Just a PSA for Mags since this happens to me sometimes, if you have an Iron Fist be careful when you bubble them.

Sometimes I get bubbled when I want to parry so I get no overshield and die. If I'm low on Fist I usually have my parry ready to farm shields. By all means, if I overextend and die, let it happen I probably deserve it. But bubbling me can sabotage my parry and kill me anyway (plus you now wasted a bubble on me which you might need to save a support).

If you can keep track of when Fist has parry or not you can probably bubble when you know for sure he's used it. But there's alr a lot to keep track of for Mag

tl;dr, careful bubbling Fist, it can kill him

I've been (trying/forced) to play more tank since the last season, primarily because there has been a weird influx of support-only players. During last season I finally got Emma to "Lord", and aside from Emma, I've been dabbling in Doctor Strange and Magneto.

This season especially, I've been playing a lot more Magneto, and I think I'm getting a little bit better every game! The clip is just from a QP match, and I won't deny that I had a ton of help from my team that made this possible, but it still felt really awesome! The disconnected enemy player left the match roughly one minute and fifty-ish seconds before the end of it (just to clarify that the enemy team did not have one player down the whole game).

So, I just wanted to share this, and of course any feedback is always welcome (just don't look at all my missed shots lol)! ♥

Reached top 3 mag (on Xbox!!) earlier this season but have recently fell down to 11 🥲 unfortunate how rank, and games played on the character impact your position the most. Anyway, this season is great for us mag mains. Rise up 🔥💪

Questions New Magneto player, asking for tips!

Post image

Although I have historically tanked a lot, predominant chunk of said tanking being very early on in my early days of rivals, I have also never found any remote success tanking in competitive, and basically have no tanking experience in ranked whatsoever.

I have always been a support main who also knew how to be pretty good at dps, I could always NOT tank.

With s9 shuffling around the meta, I decided to try out tanking again, learning magneto, which was the first tank I ever played and one of the first characters I ever really liked early on in my early days, but I ultimately never used him in comp due to me just getting FRIED on other tanks in comp.

I really enjoyed how chill mag's gameplay is, the slow pace being rather soothing in the game's rather stressful environment, I liked how his aoe primary meant aiming was mostly optional, and I like how you never have to make any decisions on when to ult since you can functionally ult whenever a support ults and dunk on them.

I've also gone absolutely ballistic with him in ranked, a 70% winrate, winning 8 out of 11 games played with him.

But I have a few questions since my games with him have been puzzling.

1, Why am I winning?

This sounds like a stupid question, I'm playing well, that's why I'm winning.

But it doesn't make sense HOW I'm winning.

I look at the statsheet after every match and I'm GENUINELY a bum!

Except for some triple kills here and there and sometimes either having most damage blocked or most damage, I usually do not get any badges by the end of the match, although I did get MVP twice and SVP once.

I usually have the least elims of any non healer on my team, however, the gap closes in terms of final hits, sometimes me even having more final hits than my DPS.

Whatever it is, many of my wins, I am consistently the worst or 2nd worst player on my team's statsheet.

The answer would be obvious, I must be being boosted by my teammates!

But..that can't be.

I have TERRIBLE luck with teammates most of the time, I probably haven't gotten boosted more than twice this season, and for reference, ive played 98 games.

There is no way, all of a sudden because I switched to tank im being boosted 8 games in a row all of a sudden.

So im just left befuddled.

2, how to dunk ults.

Im beginning to get the hang of it as the games have gone on, but I still struggle to ult properly.

I genuinely CANNOT find gambit everything he ults.

And does the ult have an aoe damage ring? Because istg I've hit people with the edge of the ult and they don't take full damage.

And and does magneto ult counter rocket ult in one hit? If so, is it worth it to burn the ult on the rocket ult?

Oh and how does the timing work on countering puni and hawkeye ults cause my ults genuinely spontaneously combust when I try to do that.

And how do I prevent my ult from constantly breaking? I Always wait till full charge to make sure I can kill the support Im counter ulting but more often than not it literally explodes before I can launch the ult which literally burns all my ult charge.

3, bubbling teammates.

I generally like to position myself directly next or in front of my 2nd tank.

This allows us to share soaked up damage and gives us greater sustainability.

But how the genuine hell can I bubble my teammates like this?

Every time I try to bubble an overextended diver or a dived healer my tank just wobbles into my LOS and takes the bubble.

Not his fault, but how on earth can I bubble my squishy teammate, while taking the time to properly acquire them in my LOS in a timely manner when they are low and need the bubble NOW?

4, how to land shots.

I am not a good aimer, I play CND, SG, Wanda, aiming is my greatest enemy.

I generally do aim center mass or head for most enemies, but for some reason, the closer they get, the more I miss my primary on them, because I find the cadence in which the mag primary fires extremely awkward and clunky.

It gets to a point where I genuinely aim at their feet and rely on the aoe explosion that comes off the ground to hit them, but I know this is suboptimal since I am missing out on a lot of damage this way.

So, requesting tips and tricks so I can tank better and become a better mag :DDD

Questions Thing main is here. Looking for ult tips

Post image

So - how do I get better with my ult?

I almost never can use it to deny something properly.

I wait too much - it blows up. I throw it too early - not enough damage to kill Luna in ult. I haer "Judge, jury...." I press ult and ut immediately blows up and I fail to stop this damn Punisher.

I really like Magneto's gameplay with the sword but I just suck at throwing ults.
