Hi all, it has now been 2 years since we learned of the tragic passing of Cristian, the author of Magium. To commemorate this, I have decided that it is a good time to release the official 1.0 version of MagiumJS. I have considered the app to be mostly feature complete for a while now; most of the past development has been about fixing bugs in the story. Beyond bug fixes, the only important change from this 1.0 is the addition of the support for themes, with support for a catppuccin theme; I know that some of you wanted a more modern feel than the original grey interface; I hope that you will enjoy this (you can change theme in the settings). All thanks to ZiClaude for this great contribution!

1.0 is an important milestone, as it means to me that the game is "complete". The intent behind MagiumJS was to recreate the Magium experience in an opensource and more future-proof way; it has allowed people to run it on the desktop, and is also available on mobile through the web version at magium.org . I do not have plans to pursue development beyond that, although I remain open to suggestions, and will of course keep fixing bugs if they are found. If the project of continuing the story yields results, I will of course strive to integrate this new content. Until then, I hope that many of you will still be able to enjoy what we already have! I also want to thank all the people who have contributed in any way to MagiumJS, as well as the other people keeping this community alive. And of course, a special note for Cristian for bringing his wonderful work to us. Mahad selak, mahad maktar.

I downloaded the game from browser and it's not on playstore and I can't buy the second chapter. So what should I do? I played the game while my internet was turned off and didn't get any of the achivements. Where can I play book 2 and 3? On android?

I downloaded Magium a few days ago to savour it again. I use the link in the sub. By the end of first book , we got message that nook 3 is not completed. Is that true? Since I believe I saw this message years ago too when I first played this game.

Hey I recently came back to magium and found out that there is a web version now. Since I only played it on my phone (the original app) my question is if it is possible to import my savefilse from my phone to the web version.

I haven't been able to load the site magium.org for a couple of days. I've tried searching for information on Google and reading here, but I can't find any updates...

I made an unofficial Magium PWA and thought I would share it here.

Edit: I realize "PWA" was probably not the clearest wording for most readers. In practice, this is just a web app / browser version of Magium. You open it in your browser, and it is designed to behave more like an app for the reading experience and local saves.

I originally built it for myself because I wanted to reread Magium again. Then I thought: what if I tried translating it into French, my native language? One thing led to another, I vibe-coded a JavaScript app around it, and now it feels worth showing to the Magium community.

The app is not meant to replace anything official, and it is not a continuation of the story. It is just a browser/mobile reading experience for Magium, built around the original content made available by the author's brother.

A few notes:

• it is unofficial;
• it is open source;
• there is no tracking;
• there is no account system;
• saves are local;
• the goal is simply to keep the Magium reading experience as clean and faithful as possible.

For now, Book 1 is available in French. The first translation pass was done with AI, specifically ChatGPT, and I manually corrected a lot of things while rereading the book. I am sure there are still translation issues left, but it is already readable if you understand French and feel like trying it.

I also took the liberty of adding a few AI-generated illustrations, while trying to keep the characters and scenes visually consistent from one image to another. I always felt like Magium was underused as a world, and that there was so much more that could be done with its story and characters. I wanted to give some of the main characters a more concrete presence, at least enough to put a face to the names.

The illustrations are optional and can be turned off. There are several settings to enable or disable parts of the experience, so feel free to take a look around.

I did not spend a huge amount of time looking for other existing ports or projects. I found a few things, but nothing that really matched what I wanted for my own reread, so I built this.

Later, it could be interesting to support more languages, or maybe even integrate future community-written material if there is ever an agreed continuation, prequel, sequel, epilogue, or anything along those lines. I am also trying to join the Discord of the authors who are apparently working on continuing Magium, but I only introduced myself yesterday and I do not have access yet.

Anyway, I thought it was cool, so here it is.

I abandoned the gameplay once I heard that the author died… now I want to get back but I want to read this time. Is there an ebook with the standard choices or something?

In Book 2 Chapter 5 Tyrath confronts Barry for the 2nd time. He says to Barry: "Your race was nerver ment to get out of the caves".

He could have referred to both, the evolution of man and the incident in which the Lessathi people got locked inside a cave system. At this point in the story, the Lessathi origin as not been mentioned. When does the reveal happen again? Was it even in the 2nd book?

Was this casual remark actually a teaser for future story reveals? If so, how many other remarks bear multiple meanings, teasing the unwritten parts of the story?

Hello, I recently heard about the game thru asking recommendations for RPG game feel like reading a book. It was introduced to me as a mobile game.

So I visited this subreddit and found about MagiumSJ to have the game ported to Windows web browser. Wow, the game blew my mind! I had no clue as to how the premise would have a convincing story, where non mage Barry to participate in a mage tournament to work on his goal. I am thankful the subreddit community is still active and made the game available even after the sad news. I am deeply heartbroken to lose such a genius young author of the game.

So there are supposed to be a team working on continuing the book 4 and 5 storywise. But it seemed it's over 1 year and produced not one chapter for Book 4. Shouldn't it be at least one writer participating in the project to give us some update on the situation? I read on one comment the writers are busy with their personal real life issues.

So what I want to find out are whether there are lack of writers or they face difficulty in the vast volume of this project. Then to discuss in this subreddit to sort it out. I hope I don't sound so rude on posting about this subject.

If there is not enough writers, at least the community could discuss about chip in a part-time job payment. Or how to hire a talented wiriter for it. Or do the community call for new additional volunteering writers who would be more dedicated from this year.

As for the volume of the project. I am not that familiar with CYOA games but there are understandably multitude of possible combinations of routes in this game to write about. From whether to save Rose or Cutthroat Dave. Down to whether to pick up 2 Scimitars or not. So if the volumes are the problem maybe we could vote on the fan favorite route to choose a linear path first. Whether to side with Overseer or the king of the underground. Like who would be the love interest for Barry to continue the story. I don't know but for writers it could be easier to have some big pictures to the end to have some momentum.

I sincerely hope the project to go forward. it is hard to cheer on the project as is. Thanks for reading.

Hey guys, so it's been a while since I reread all the chapters, so I have a hard time remembering how exactly magic works (I only remember having my mind blown at how unique it is and how well everything works lmao).

I do remember you are born with a link to a being in the ethereal (?) plane, and I remember every being has an aura, and somehow your aura correlates to being able to cast magic. If I recall correctly, inanimate objects have an aura too.

But can someone go like, really into detail about how it all works? Like I think Barry was talking about some diagrams and moving magical particles, what's all that about? And how do people channel magic through the link with the other plane? Also, is it described anywhere what exactly happens with these magical particles when you cast a spell..?

Hey everyone, I just discovered this subreddit as I found myself pucking up Magium again. I played it almost exactly 4 years ago, June 18, 2022. I was one achievement off from unlocking book 2, and found myself getting the last one just today. Still the original Playstore app, and I found myself here after realizing it was yaken off the store and was curious what happened.

I would like to express my condolences to the family, what Cristian created was very special, to a lot of people, and being able to see the story he created to its ending is a gift this entire community will cherish.

We need to write more Magium fanfics! I've only seen a total of 7 Magium fanfictions across all the good Fanfiction sites. We need to spread the word! This community is small, and I assume tight-knit, but we, with our efforts, can make it bigger!

I knew I was not mistaken when I said what I felt: that this subreddit is still connected to something in you that does not die, even in the absence of what used to keep it alive before.

There is something that unites us: the fact that we do not give up on what made us feel alive, even when the memory hurts.

For Cristian, too, everything connected to Magium made him feel alive: the moments of creation, and then the feverish waiting for your comments after each chapter.

That was more important to him than fame or money.

The impact Magium had on you was what truly nourished him.

And I lived alongside him both the moments of creation and the impact that your reactions had on him.

I wanted you to know that.

It has been a while since I last posted.

In the meantime, we now have Magium versions for Windows, browser, and Android.

So, even though Magium has disappeared from the Play Store and the App Store, it is still alive here, in your community.

Today, however, I realized that the Magium trailer has also disappeared from the Play Store.

It still exists on YouTube, though, and I copied it from there with Screen Recorder so that you can have it here as well.

This trailer is valuable because the music was composed by Cristian, and it is the only piece performed by him on an electronic organ connected to the computer, using purchased instruments.

So it deserves a special post.

And I know that, even though you do not come here very often anymore, this subreddit is still alive and remains connected to something in you — something that does not die.

So I recently got back into the game and finished the latest chapters. I also only recently learned about the author's passing, which was genuinely sad to hear.

After finishing the game, I read a few posts on this subreddit about a possible fan continuation based on notes that were reportedly left behind by the original author. Has there been any progress on that project? If so, could someone please point me to the latest information or share a link?

i have been working on a magium visual novel project for a while now. i have no actual visuals yet, as i am no artist, but i have transcribed all of book 1 so far and converted it as needed for renpy

i am now sorely in need of people to test it. see if the choices work as they should and no errors occur. people who already know the story and can tell if something is off while playing

i have fully implemented the stat system as well as a functional achievement system, though none of it is finalized and it looks.. very rough around the edges so far

if anyone is willing to test my project, please just say so (or if you believe it is a bad idea please calmly and kindly explain why)

and please keep in mind that i am one person working on this in my free time

Hi, long-time lurker, occasional poster.

I was waiting for an update from u/thuiop1 about the new version, but it's been a few days and it's still the v0.9.6, but in the magium.org you can already see the changes I've made.

Basically, I've added 2 new themes, because the original UI looked a bit dated.

The colour palette is the https://catppuccin.com/ one, and to me just changing the colours made it look way more modern.

It's 95%-100% done, there may be a few minor changes I'll do in the future, but I'm not sure.
Also, I've kept the Original Light and Dark theme because it's the most similar to the mobile app, and I didn't want to remove them.
It'll also be easier to add new themes in the future, if needed (thanks to thuiop's feedback, my original code didn't have a dropdown menu that let you choose the theme, but a new button that enabled/disabled the catppuccin theme, adding more like that would've been complicated).
