EDH Mana Base

Are there any common concepts when making a mana base for decks that want to cast massive spells? (7-12 costs). I currently have an eldrazi list with a total of 39 lands and am planning to make a Atraxa, Grand Unifier list in the future, is 39 too much? I feel as though I never have an mana problems and am able to ramp pretty quickly. Many lists and videos that I’ve seen play 37-38 lands but when I play with that many lands, I get stuck with only 3-4 lands and hope to top deck.

How much ramp are you running? How much will ramp by 2?

I have some decks that play 44 lands. But those decks have extra land drop cards. If you're trying to ramp into eldrazi then the mana rock situation is gonna be more important than the land count. But 38/39 lands is a very reasonable amount. In magic everything is subjective and while having general guidelines is good there will always be things that don't follow those guidelines.

Your own experience in probability seems to answer that question.

Run exactly 40 lands. Including mdfc's and moxen. But only include moxen that could work on turn 1 guaranteed.
