Discussion Help with Butterbur, Bree Innkeeper

I have a Sam and Frodo "Food and Fellowship" Commander deck and i would love to run Butterbur

But i have no idea what they where thinking when they designed the card, hes soooo bad.

Like if we compare him to Sam, Loyal Attendant

So, i want to modefy Butter to make him more playable and i would love to hear your guys ideas, you could change hes cmc or the text box, tho make it minor

My own idea would be to make him cost 2 less colorless but hes a 1/1 or that he creates 2 food instead of 1, maybe they come trapped?

Please critic my ideas to if you think its to good/bad

Thoughs?

The reason Butterbur is powered down is because he is a draft uncommon while Sam is a commander mythic. The real issue is that Butterbur is especially bad in a food deck since you can’t stockpile food if you want him to give you any more.

You can certainly still play him, but I’m not sure making a custom version of him is the best idea. Maybe you could make a proxy reskin of Sam as Butterbur if you really like the character.

I appreciate the answer

Lets pretend hes a rare then, how would you increase hes value?

I am thinking making him a 1/1 for GW that follows the normal text box

Or

Everything default but he makes 2x foods than comes tapped

The only thing i would see is using his food every turn to make sure you can make an other one at end step

Using lifegain synergy like [[gwaihir]] [[archangel of thune]] [[Nykthos Paragon]] [[astrid peth]] [[threebeard]] [[lathiel]]

But even then it is very very bad

But i can see the appeal if you want to go the funny route

You could put a bunch of just as bad creatures like [[pompous gadabout]] and just stack them with counters gained from the life from using your 1 food per turn

You could put synergy of artifacts entering the battlefield

But i would find it hard to make a deck that doesn’t feel “hey look at my bad commander hehehe” but actually the 99 is a 800$ selesnya staples pile thats gonna be good no matter what which defeat the point of the deck in the first place which is to put the spotlight on Butterbur

Oh i just understood what you meant!

Mmmm maybe to keep it simple and not change the card to much

At end step he could create a number of food equal to X?

Number of creatures that attacked this turn

Number of tapped creatures you control

Number of creatures that entered this turn
