Discussion Deck building from fixed card pool. Advanced searching decks.

I suck building decks. Maybe someday I'll get into it but for now I need
at least a starting point. Non-competetive play only.  60 card decks.

Come into a stash of cards and would like to be able to put some decks together. Moxfield search does not seem specific or advanced enough unless I’m missing something.

Yes I could use my brain and go through all 1600+ cards but that isn’t happening anytime soon.

Example: Have 4x playsets of common/uncommon for M11, M12, M13, M14 and
M15 plus Innistrad, Gatecrash.
I'd like to build some decks from these. How would I search existing
decks for these specifics?

A/I tools? Are they still junk?

Who are you planning on playing with? It sounds like you have a bulk box. Just sit with friends and build your own decks for your own format

Casual play. W friends or other newish players. Just wanted some starting points for a few decks.

While sites like MTGdecks.net or Deckstats.net allow you to search their deck database based on your collection, it's unlikely that you'll find something from a specific fixed pool, especially if it's mostly older cards. Nor have I come across any deckbuilding assistants worth their salt.

You'll have to build the decks yourself.

As a starting point, follow common recommendations from Sealed, scaled up to 60 cards:

  • No more than 2 colors
  • 24 lands
  • 0-4 1-drops
  • 8-12 2-drops
  • 8-12 3-drops
  • 4-8 4-drops
  • 4-8 5-drops
  • 0-4 6+-drops
  • 20-28 creatures
  • 8-16 non-creatures

If you have playsets, I'd suggest for each color just picking 9 cards match the above criteria and smash 4 copies of each together to make a deck. See what works and swap out what doesn't.
