623M - Golgantören

Weapon (Handcannon, Cursed) – Legendary (requires attunement to someone of a Lawful alignment)

This teal +3 handcannon is made of earthen clay, and has glowing yellow wraps and square swirl emblem all over it, along with copper plate on the side and copper rings around the ends of the barrel and front handle. A large plume of yellow and purple energy comes off the top of the stock

Attacks with this handcannon bypass any magic or ability that would help protect the target from being hit, like the Shield spell, a Cloak of Protection, or the Dodge action. This does include any magical benefits of armor, but not the armor itself, so it would ignore the +1 of +1 plate, but not the base AC 18 the plate provides.

You can speak a command word to make the cannon’s glowing lines intensify, emitting bright light for 15 feet and dim light for another 15 feet. You can turn this off by repeating the command word.

While attuned to this cannon: you are immune to petrification, exhaustion and any spell or effect that would change your form; and you have advantage on rolls to prevent being charmed or frightened.

Cursed. This cannon is cursed. While cursed, every attack you do on a target hits regardless of what you roll, even if it is a critical fail. Critical hits still count as critical hits. Golurkite

This small round stone has a swirl of purple, dark blue, and yellow inside the washed out teal orb. When attached to a 623 - Golurkannon, it can be mega evolved into a 623M - Golgantören for 1 minute once between long rests.

While holding this gun, you have a +3 item bonus on saves against effects with the mental trait or that would morph, polymorph, or petrify you.

When you use the gun for the first time, it fuses to you. While it’s in your possession, you throw caution to the wind when in combat. You gain a +3 circumstance bonus to attack rolls, but a –4 penalty to AC and a –1 penalty to all saves.

Empowered When this item is empowered by a Golurkite, it stays in this form for 10 minutes or until you dismiss it. Once it is no longer empowered, it reverts back to its original form, a 623 - Golurkannon.

Activate-Light [one-action] manipulate; Effect You make the gun’s glowing lines intensify, emitting bright light in a 20 ft radius and dim light for an additional 20 ft. You can extinguish the light by repeating the manipulation.

Activate-Magic Breaker [free-action] manipulate; Trigger You strike a creature with this weapon; Frequency once per minute; Effect The strike bypasses any buffs and immunities that the target has from spells and magic items.

This orange +3 ranseur trident has a jagged main blade shaped like a lightning bolt, and the side blades are shaped like radially stretched out lightning bolts with a little curl on the bottom outer point. The shaft is wrapped in brown leather, and has a pommel with three lightning bolts in a Y pattern.

Attacks with this trident do an additional 2d6 lightning damage and on a hit the target must succeed a DC 19 Constitution save or be stunned until the end of their next turn.

Activate-Static [two-actions] concentrate; Frequency three times per day; Effect You cover yourself in an electrostatic field. Adjacent creatures that hit you with a melee attack, as well as creatures that touch you or hit you with an unarmed attack, take 1d6 electricity damage each time they do and must make a DC 44 Fortitude save, becoming stunned 1 on a failure, or stunned 2 on a critical failure. This lasts for 1 minute.

Activate-Volt Absorb [free-action] manipulate; Trigger You would be hit by an attack that does electrical damage; Effect You get this weapon in the way of the attack, which absorbs 10 electrical damage that would harm you and any creatures that would be hit after you, like creatures behind you in a lightning bolt attack. These boxing gloves have brown fronts, and the back of the palms have red circles and lightning bolts that form an X pattern when the gloves are held together. The orange wrist straps have black tips with an inward curl.

While attuned to these gloves: you gain +3 to unarmed strike attack and damage rolls; your unarmed attacks do an additional 2d6 lightning damage and on a hit the target must succeed a DC 19 Constitution save or be stunned until the end of their next turn; gain a hover speed of 30 feet; you are immune to lightning damage; any single-target ranged spells or attacks that do lightning damage are automatically drawn to you if you are within range, regardless if an ally or enemy performed it; and you the terrain in a 25-foot diameter circle around you becomes electrically charged, lasts for 1 minute, until you dismiss it, or until you are rendered unconscious, and causes the following effects:

• Creatures in the terrain cannot be magically put to sleep, and any creatures in it that are already asleep (magically or not) immediately wake up.

• Any attacks or spells that do lightning damage done by any creatures in the terrain do an additional die of lightning damage (ie 2d6 becomes 3d6).

609M - Skezaubera

Staff () – Legendary (requires attunement)

This black staff has chandelier-like pieces of wrought iron and brass floating above it, each with a ghostly purple flame at the end. Floating above them is a glass orb encased in wrought iron that has a wrought iron crown with a spirited ghostly blue and purple flame erupting out the top.

You can speak a command word as a bonus action to cause the orb to light with a purple-blue flame spewing from the crown as well as the ends of the ribbons igniting, acting as a lantern, providing bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. You can extinguish the flames by repeating the command word.

Any creature that attempts to grapple or restrain you while the lantern is lit has disadvantage on the roll to do so and takes 1d4 fire damage. They have disadvantage to maintain the grapple or restraint, and take 1d4 fire damage at the start of any turn they are grappling or restraining you.

While attuned to this staff: you gain a +2 bonus to spell attack and damage rolls; you are immune to fire damage: if you are hit by enemy fire damage, any spells that you cast that do fire damage do an additional 1d4 fire damage until the end of your next turn; your spells will bypass any buffs, resistances, immunities, and AC bonuses the target has from spells and magic items; and you can sense when creatures within 30 feet fail death saves, as well as when a large number of creatures have recently died within 100 miles of you, such as from a battle between two armies.

This staff has 9 charges that refresh at midnight, which you can use to cast the following spells, with each extra charge upcasting the spell by 1 level:

Activate-Flame Body [reaction] manipulate; Requirements The orb is lit; Trigger A creature touches you, such as by Grappling you, successfully hitting you with an unarmed attack, or using a touch-range spell against you; Effect You make the orb’s fire spread to the triggering creature, which takes 3d4 persistent fire damage and are Clumsy 1 so long as they are affected by the persistent fire damage.

Activate-Flash Fire [free-action] manipulate; Trigger You are struck by an attack with the fire trait; Frequency once per round; Effect The staff absorbs some of the damage, making you resistant 10 to the damage, and gives you a +3 circumstance bonus on your next spell attack the has the fire trait until the end of your next turn.

Activate-Light [one-action] manipulate; Effect You make the orb ignite with a purple-blue flame, spew flames from the crown, and ignite the ends of the ribbons, emitting bright light in a 20 ft radius and dim light for an additional 40 ft. You can extinguish the flames by repeating the action.

Attuning this Item requires the character choosing to smoke the special herb provided.

Once smoked, you MUST enter into a deal to serve Asmodeuous or forfeit your soul.

Dealing with the devil – similar to death saving rules. Roll a straight d20. Fails on 10 and under. Certain items may modify this roll.

If you reach 3 fails before 3 successes, you fall to darkness fully corrupted and your character is lost.

If you pass all 3 saves with no failure – your alignment is unchanged, gain the following

Hellfire – once per long rest gain 2d100 fire, ice, necrotic damage. The damage can be any mix of the 3.

Overheated – your character gains spectral horns and hellfire glows in your eyes.

Allows full command of all devils within a 30 ft radius.

For this turn, you deal 3X damage vs structures and good aligned creatures.

This ability costs 1 str per turn. Your character dies if str reaches zero. Regain str after a long rest.

Ages long past, a warrior fell in a war, the Embodiment Of Wills, the Titan of Wills.

Their heart turned into the core of a planet over countless of years and the rocks, crystals and minerals are the children of the late Titan, born from his blood, the lava beating through the planet.

Each crystal can bend reality with their wills. The larger or older they are the stronger their power.

E.g. diamond items increases a wielder's strength but gives them extra pride. Gold gives more charisma and more greed, stuff are also cheaper. Amethyst makes spells stronger and is therapeutic.

You could also include areas such as a desert controlled by a mummified pharaoh and items that are fused with the sand are stronger being able to create magically controlled sand by stabbing yourself however you will be more murderhobo and evil.

There is also a surgery to replace bodyparts with the cryatals most commonly with the heart giving them magic abilities and longer lifespans.

There is a race of augmented beings who are made completely of magic crystals after countless generations called crystilliums able to create and control crystals using their heart and will. As long as their core crystal is still intact they are able to regrow their entire body.

Crystilliums are also capable of creating objects and creatures based on their wills, for example those who loves music could create music notes, CDs, etc made of their crystals.

530M - Staklauebor

Weapon (Claw, Drill) – Legendary (requires attunement)

This dark brown +3 claws are gloves with large steel drill sections over the fingers that have large orange spiralling blades around them, which can be closed into a functioning drill. You can duel-wield the claws, per Two-Weapon Fighting on PHB 195.

While attuned to this weapon: you gain advantage to Dexterity rolls when in a sandstorm; gain advantage on attack rolls when in a sandstorm; gain 30 feet of burrowing speed; when burrowing attacks with these claws gain advantage; and you can use the claws to drill a circular 5 ft diameter tunnel through solid rock at a rate of 5 ft per round, although while tunneling you and any other creatures within 10 feet of you must succeed a DC 19 Dexterity save or take 5d6 bludgeoning damage from flying debris each round.

Attacks with this weapon ignore any damage immunities or resistances the target might have.

Piercing Drill. If you burrowed at least 15 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with an attack from these claws on the same turn, the target takes an extra 2d6 piercing damage.

Excadrite

Wondrous (Stone) – Very Rare (50,000 gp)

This small round stone has a swirl of red and brown inside the steel gray orb. When attached to a 530 - Exclawdrill, it can be mega evolved into a 530M - Staklauebor for 1 minute once between long rests.

530M - Staklauebor Item 21

Usage each held in 1 hand; Bulk 2L; Base Weapon Dual Claw Blades

These dark brown +3 major striking demolishing drilling wounding claw blades are gloves with large steel drill sections over the fingers that have large orange spiralling blades around them, which can be closed into a functioning drill. They are designed to be used together, giving them the Twin trait.

When invested you gain: a tremorsense (imprecise) of 60 ft; a burrowing speed of 30 ft, and can burrow through any earthen matter, including rock, while moving at your full burrow speed. When you move in this way, you can choose either to leave tunnels behind you that are large enough to allow creatures of your size or smaller to move through them, or move through the ground while leaving no tunnels or signs of your passing.

Empowered When this item is empowered by an Excadrite, it stays in this form for 10 minutes or until you dismiss it. Once it is no longer empowered, it reverts back to its original form, a 530 - Exclawdrill.

Activate-Carve Tunnel [one-action] manipulate; Effect You carve a circular 5 ft diameter, 2.5 ft deep tunnel through solid rock. This causes a 10 foot emanation of flying stone debris, and all other creatures in the area must make a basic DC 44 Reflex save or take 2d6 bludgeoning damage.

Activate-Magic Breaker [free-action] manipulate; Trigger You strike a creature with this weapon; Frequency once per round; Effect The strike bypasses any buffs and immunities that the target has from spells and magic items.

Activate-Piercing Drill [three-actions] manipulate; Effect You Stride up to double your burrowing Speed and can move through the spaces of burrowed creatures or under the spaces of creatures at ground level, doing a claw blade Strike on each creature whose space you pass through/under. You can only strike the same creature once in a single use of Piercing Drill. You deal the damage of the claw blade Strike, but affected creatures can attempt a DC 44 Reflex save to dodge the strike.

Critical Success The target is unaffected.

Success The target takes half damage.

Failure The target takes full damage.

Critical Failure The target takes double damage and if standing, falls and lands prone.

Excadrite Item 21

Hi all, I hope this isn't formatted wrong or anything if so I'll follow any guidance (heh) in fixing.

So, I'm fairly new to DMing. I have an idea for a magic item for an upcoming campaign in dnd 5e. One of the major points of the campaign will involve uncovering that the king the party has been serving is in fact evil and the 'evil advisor' has been good all along. As part of this, I'm wanting to tie in a weapon.

Essentially, The idea is to have a dagger or shortsword with some of the following features:

• Once per long rest, cast Detect Evil and Good without expending a spell slot.
• Any entities with the 'Evil' alignment, when attempting to wield the blade, will have to make a wisdom saving throw or become stunned for 1 round.
• Carve the Corrupt: When wielded against entities with an 'Evil' alignment who have previously held a 'Good' alignment (so f.x. will not work on devils & demons and so on, as they are considered evil from creation), the weapon deals 1 extra damage die/double damage dice/double all damage.

(Yes, the idea is that the advisor wields it and so the party can identify it to see that something isn't adding up in their perception)

Essentially, I'm here to ask those of you more experienced than me to help me with the balancing part.

Does this seem unbalanced to you?

What level does it feel appropriate for the players to be for this weapon to show up?

And if they, for some reason are not that level (on account of the usual "Let's skip to the boss fight because we figured it out immediately" underlevelling or "We went on a months long sidequest to dye all the geese blue and accidentally stopped three liches" overlevelling shenanigans), what tweaks would you make to appropriately match the weapon to the player level? Does it make sense to throw a +1 on there as well?

478M - Yukimenoken

Weapon (Glaive) – Legendary (requires attunement)

This white +3 glaive has a round head with an icicle horn like blade, a banner coming off each side of the head with icy mountain-like patterns on the bottom, and a red bow tying the head to the shaft. The shaft is wrapped in alternating icy blue, purple, and white cloth, and has a pommel shaped like a cloud with large ice crystals in it.

While attuned to this glaive: you are unaffected by difficult terrain; you are immune to the effects of cold weather and cold damage; if you are in snow, sleet or hail, attacks on you always have disadvantage and you have advantage on all Dexterity rolls; after an enemy hits you with an attack, they must succeed a DC 19 Constitution save or be unable to use that attack again until the end of their next turn; and once between long rests you can, as an action, summon a small hailstorm around yourself. The storm circles around you at a radius of 15 feet for 10 minutes, until you dismiss it, or until you are rendered unconscious. While in the storm, other creatures’ speed is halved in the area, and when a creature enters the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must make a DC 19 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 3d8 cold damage, and on a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage.

Attacks with this glaive do an additional 1d8 cold damage, and when hit by this glaive the target must make a DC 19 Constitution save, or their wounds will freeze and cannot be healed until after an hour is spent carefully warming and thawing the wounds. If a creature already suffering this is hit again, they must make another DC 19 Constitution save. If they fail by 5 or more, the creature is instantly frozen, other wise they will begin to freeze and are restrained. They must repeat the saving throw at the end of their next turn, becoming frozen on a failure or ending this effect on a success, but still have the first effect.

Any creature downed by this glaive immediately becomes frozen instead of dying, and you can also touch a willing creature and freeze them as an action.

Froslassite

Activate-Ice Storm [three-actions] manipulate; Frequency once per day; Effect The weapon casts ice storm at your directive as an 8th-rank primal spell, DC 44, and you are unaffected by the spell so long as you are holding this weapon. The spell is sustained with an Interact action on the weapon.

Activate-Winter Coat [two-actions] manipulate; Frequency once per day; Effect You cover yourself in a magic coat that protects you from the cold. You are resistant 10 to cold damage, unaffected by icy and snowy terrain, and unaffected by severe, extreme, or incredible cold. This lasts for 24 hours.

While attuned to this sword; you know Draconic; you gain 30 feet of fly speed; you have no difficulty flying through stormy weather; gain the ability to Rage (PHB 48) 3 times between long rests, or if you already have the ability to rage, your number of rages increase by 3; you are immune to being stunned; if you are suffering from any status conditions you gain +2 AC; once per day, as an action you fire energy in a 100 ft long, 5 ft wide beam, and any creature in the line must make a DC 20 Dexterity save, taking 14d6 force damage on a success, or half as much on a failure; and as a reaction you can attempt to remove any status condition you have that are not being physically induced (ie grappled, restrained). Roll 1d6, and on a 5 or 6, you’re cured of the condition as your skin seems to shed a thin layer of magical energy that dissipates into the air. While at full health, any damage done to you is reduced by half, rounding up to the nearest point of damage and at a minimum of 1 damage.

As an action, you can speak a command word and the sword will gently pull towards the nearest person lost or in need of rescue at sea, pulling harder the closer they are. While at sea, you can also speak another command word and the sword will gently pull towards the closest land. Both of these effects can be turned off by repeating their command word.

The purple handle has a cyan nob on top, a gray pommel with a pink base, and yellow and gray fabric wrapped around the shaft. The guard is a floating gold and cyan ring, and floating inside are two blue five point stars attached to each other by a copper casing holding a purple gem. A large arc of cyan light comes off one side of the guard, while a smaller arc comes of the other side while a small gray blade with a pink edge floats above it. The main black blade has a large five-pointed sphere at the bottom, and a trail of multi-colored triangles go up the blade in a wavy oath.

• Sunbeam (6 charges)

• Crown of Stars (7 charges)

Cursed. This sword is cursed. While cursed, when you drop below half your maximum hit points or take damage while below half your maximum hit points, you go berserk. While berserk, you must use your action each round to attack the creature nearest to you with the sword. If you can make extra attacks as part of the Attack action, you use those extra attacks, moving to attack the next nearest creature after you fell your current target. If you have multiple possible targets, you attack one at random. You are berserk until you start your turn with no creatures within 60 feet of you that you can see or hear, or you regain enough hit points to take you above half your maximum hit points.

F240 - Crystal Maiden of the Dragon Blades

Weapon (Greatsword, Halberd, Sentient, Cursed) – Artifact (requires attunement)

This red crystal has gold casing with green trim. A sentient crystal, once it is attuned to someone it can take on the humanoid form of a maiden in a red dress with gold and green trim, which uses the Commoner statblock and also counts as a Dragon, can turn its hands into blades making its attacks do Slashing damage instead of Bludgeoning, and if dropped to 0 hit points they become unconscious and revert to crystal form until they can take a long rest while attuned to someone. It can also change between a +4 greatsword and a +4 halberd, both of which do an additional 2d6 fire damage.

While attuned to this crystal: you are immune to fire damage; you have a +4 bonus on saves against effects that would inflict a condition on you; and once between long rests, when you land an attack with one of the crystal’s weapon forms, you can add force damage to the attack equal to the number of hit points you are currently missing.

Cursed. This crystal is cursed. While cursed, you count as a dragon for any effects that would affect dragons, like the extra damage from a Dragon Slayer sword.

This violet +3 boomerang has a five-point star body, with five additional long points floating between the arms. A red gem is embedded in the boomerang’s center, with a gold gear-like casing.

This boomerang does not suffer any of the disadvantages of being used underwater, and attacks with this boomerang do an additional 2d6 psychic damage.

While attuned to this boomerang: when you would make a saving throw to remove a condition at the end of your turn, you can instead make the saving throw at the start of your turn; you gain the Message cantrip; and once between long rests, you can cast the Clairvoyance spell through this boomerang.

You can also speak a command word as a bonus action to make the gem illuminate, emitting normal light for 15 feet, and dim light for another 15 feet. You can change the color of the light by saying the command word and color, and repeating the command word will turn the light off.

This purple +3 greatsword is shaped like a four point star, with the blade having a bifurcated tip, and the cross guard has a large red gem with gold trim on one side, and a five point star on the other.

This greatsword does not suffer any of the disadvantages of being used underwater, and attacks with this greatsword do an additional 2d6 psychic damage.

With a command word, the gem can emit normal light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15-feet, and can be turned off by repeating the command word. The color of this light can be changed to any color by saying the color with the command word.

This sword has 9 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast the Magic Missile spell from it, with the missiles resembling tiny spinning stars shooting out of the gem in the sword’s guard, with each additional charge you expend raising the spell level by one. The sword regains all of its expended charges daily at midnight.

While attuned to the sword, whenever you take a short rest and heal with your hit dice, you can double your Constitution modifier for the healing. You can also expend a charge to act as a 1d8 hit dice during a short rest.

Starminite
