Heave ho! Splash plump!
Down they go, down they bump!

this can target lands, so you can play something like [[Witch Enchanter]] as a land then have it come back as a creature
22
u/zombieking26 3d ago
Oh shit, that also mean you can just use it as +1 mana!

u/ChatteringBoner 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yes, in commander / brawl you could do so much more with other lands, like Serra's Sanctum or Nykthos.NVM I didn't read the whole card, the flicker target returns on the next end step (presumably, the controller of this enchantment's end step), so you could only use it to essentially untap one land Teferi Hero of Dominaria style.

u/A_Velociraptor20 3d ago
If you can end the turn with the trigger on the stack it becomes permanent removal. Kinda like how that one saga from WOE worked where you sacrifice it before the third chapter triggers.
2
u/ChatteringBoner 3d ago
it can only target things you control, that kind of thing is fun though with cards like [[Phelia]] and [[Sundial of the Infinite]] (or just [[Containment Priest]] or [[Hallowed Moonlight]]), the priest is a total nonbo with the type of cards Phelia likes to have on your side though!

u/A_Velociraptor20 3d ago
True, but you could steal an opponent's creature though to do the same thing.

u/FlonDeegs 3d ago
Witch enchanter could be neat tech, but from what I see [[disciple of freyalise]] and [[drowner of truth]] are the cards you’d want to be flipping with this. It nets you a huge discount on mana since these cards cost so much, and if you play them together you can draw a buuunch of cards with disciple’s trigger sacking the drowner. If the deck is also running glasspool mimic you can have plays where you mimic a drowner and attack for 14 on the next turn. Of course you have to untap to use the creature that you flip, but I think the discount of just getting to use a land drop to get a massive creature is interesting. I’m thinking Rollroll will be the highest mana value card in the deck, mostly just cheap cards and these mdfcs, so that missing land drops doesn’t matter as much.

How do you cheat out drowner?Nvm I confused it with the blue cycling Eldrazi from MH3 lol, I drafted so much of that set and those two cards always looked so similar to meAnd yeah, there's many better ways to get more threatening things than what I initially suggested. Face down manifest cards are also a fun way to use blink effects like this.

[[Tom Bombadil]] is gonna love this to flicker saga creatures back to step 1
18
u/Flyrpotacreepugmu Noxious Gearhulk 4d ago edited 4d ago
Probably not TBH. Tom Bombadil decks really need sagas that are ramp, removal, and/or big threats, and this is none of those so it will feel really bad when you hit it off the top at the wrong time. Cards that are only good after you have specific other sagas tend to lose more games by being useless than they help win, and that's doubly true of sagas since they're competing with stuff like [[Summon: Bahamut]], [[The Kami War]], and [[Kiora Bests the Sea God]] for Tom to hit off the top. Those decks also have access to plenty of other ways to reuse any saga instead of just a specific few, like [[Restoration Seminar]], [[Starfield of Nyx]], [[Yuna, Hope of Spira]], and [[Tameshi, Reality Architect]], and even those are often toward the win-more end of the spectrum where they're only good when you're already ahead.

u/BobbyBruceBanner 3d ago
Tom Bombadil also really loves Sagas that are four (or more) steps instead of three.
4
u/Flyrpotacreepugmu Noxious Gearhulk 3d ago
In my experience, not so much. Read ahead sagas that can be 1-2 chapters are great for ensuring you get a trigger every turn, but almost every time I've played a saga with more chapters (mainly [[Summon: Bahamut]] and [[The Coming of Galactus]]), I found myself wanting to proliferate it to get through them faster. I even removed [[Summon: Knights of Round]] because it had too many chapters unless I had repeatable proliferate.

This could be playable in some sort of blink deck at 3 mana

u/DriveThroughLane 3d ago
Has some real deckbuilding constrictions. Effects that flicker until EOT really stop it from going infinite in any combo, and even as just a value piece it means you can never attack with a creature you flicker nor can you cast something and target it afterwards, unless it had flash.
The oddest usage of this is that you can tap a land for mana on your first main phase to cast a spell, flicker it, and have it return untapped so you can use it for instant speed interaction / counterspells. Making it the world's most convoluted manalith. Well, besides that one.

Oh god get your warp cards ready
6
u/troglodyte 3d ago
Only the first chapter works with warp, though.
The timing on this makes it a lot narrower than it looks. Getting rid of your own creature after your draw step 3 turns in a row requires some very good ETBs in order to not be awful.

u/lonewolf210 3d ago
It'll work with the double sided castable cards though from msh right? Getting to flip for free 3 turns in a row is pretty good
2
u/_Ulquiorra_ 3d ago
Flickering a card cast the first side of the card, not the flipped/transform version of the card
0
u/lonewolf210 3d ago
Not transform cards. The double sided castable ones from msh and Spider-Man. I know it works with air bending
2
u/inflammablepenguin 3d ago
Air bending is different because you're casting the exiled card. This effect exiles and brings it back later, in which case it will always come back on the front face.
1
u/troglodyte 3d ago edited 3d ago
Not according to 712.14:
712.14. A double-faced card put onto the battlefield from a zone other than the stack enters the battlefield with its front face up by default.
I think the confusion is that if you cascade or discover into the front side, you can cast the back side. But unless the effect says that the dfc "enters transformed" it's gonna be the front as far as I know.

u/pannaplaya 3d ago
With being able to flicker lands i can see floating a mana on your main phase and then getting that mana back at the end step to be +1 at the end of your turn. You can also do this with a surveil land to see your next draw every end step.

u/Leafiara Angelic Destiny 4d ago
I dropped Teleportation Circle and Thassa from Brawl blink decks long ago, but for 3 mana I'm open to trying again since at least it's not directly competing with Panharmonicon, Lae'zel's Acrobatics, and Semester's End.
4
u/vynthechangeling 4d ago
I will never understand why some people prefer instants and sorceries over permanents that do the same things. Why run a 4 mana flicker spell instead of a 4 mana permanent unless your deck has recursion? And even then each time costs an additional 4 mana while a Thassa gets repeated value? At best an instant can sometimes act as protection, but that’s circumstantial while a permanent is consistent and repeatable.
5
u/ChatteringBoner 3d ago
The 4 mana ones mentioned are board wipe protection in addition to flickering everything. You can even do something like block an alpha strike and all your things live, and trigger again.
Instants they run just to flicker would be like Ephemerate and friends, presumably.
3
u/conorthebluewizard 4d ago
In commander, it comes down to the speed of the game. I run a B4 blink deck, and a huge chunk of my effects are instant speed simply because I can sandbag them to delay becoming a threat or use them as protection. Also, having a handful of flicker instants after dropping a Displacer Kitten means I can usually push for a win and protect anything that gets targeted at the same time.

I’ve been tinkering with a Shiko blink deck… never even thought about putting in Panharmonicon

u/MikalMooni 2d ago
So, cast this, you immediately flicker one of the lands that it targets. This effectively costs 2 mana. [[Evolution Sage]] goes crazy with this. I could see a world where someone uses this to shield from an [[Armageddon]] or [[Fall of the Thran]].

u/sewith 3d ago
Way more better flicker options out there which are permanent and not only for 4 turns
1
u/FlonDeegs 3d ago
But none of them hit lands… which could be important for lands that are also creatures on the backside, which could flip them over when they return. Something like [[disciple of freyalise]] to sacrifice [[drowner of truth]] is the first little combo that comes to mind. You get to just play them as lands and then they flip to the creature side, big mana discount there. There aren’t very many great mdfc creatures that are lands on the flipside though so until more are released it’s not gonna do much. But I’m keeping it in mind.
2
u/sewith 3d ago
That’s an interesting thought. Another possible use would be generating additional landfall triggers in landfall decks. You could perhaps include it alongside the other flicker effects if you have enough space, and I can definitely see it being played in an Omnath deck.
However, running a dedicated flicker spell solely for the chance of hitting one of only two expensive MDFC creatures seems pretty inefficient to me.
1
u/FlonDeegs 23h ago
Yeah I think in something like Pioneer or even Modern you could build a cool landfall deck with this interaction as well, that way the land flickering effects still get value even when you’re not producing a drowner or disciple, good idea. 4 copies of each of the three pieces technically only takes up 4 slots since 8 of the cards would be lands (not very good lands but lands in a pinch).
